MacBook Pro :: "tap To Click" Unchecked?

Apr 14, 2012

after the latest update, each time I reboot my MacBook, my "tapping" doesn't work. Each time, "tap to click" is unchecked in the System Preferences. It never did like this before. Why now? What's going on?

MacBook Pro :: Put HD To Sleep Should Be Checked / Unchecked

Oct 16, 2010

Somewhat new to Mac now. In the Energy Saving settings should I have the 'put hd to sleep' button checked or unchecked? I know with it checked preserves power, but I've read that its bad to do, just wondering if I can get some experts to tell me what I should do.

OS X :: Keyboard Preferences Unchecked - Error Beep?

Jan 5, 2010

I have two problems - in trying to fix one I may have caused the other.

1. When I press and hold down the shift key and press more than one letter in sequence, only the first is capitalized. I am using TypeIt4Me, but I checked the settings and that does not seem to be the problem. The Caps Lock works fine. This has survived through several restarts.

2. I was trying settings with the keyboard preferences in Systems Preferences and now the volume keys on the keyboard activate the Dashboard and Spaces. When I uncheck the prefs I get an error beep when I press the keys with the speakers on them. With the defaults restored, I go back to the Dashboard and Spaces responses.

I am using a September 2009 iMac, Os 10.6.2 4Gb ram <- Note the Gb This is an example of problem 1.

OS X :: ITunes Wont Play Unchecked Songs?

Jun 9, 2010

this is starting to bug me, so hope you can help. Currently, I only have a 16GB iPhone, and so in order to get my music on there, I have to select the 'only import checked songs' and select them on my iTunes playlist. However, when I'm listening to music on my iMac, I cannot listen to an un-checked album, it just skips over to the next checked song. Is there something really simple I'm missing here? Is there an option to play all songs, regardless of whether they're checked or not? Or is there a better way to sync my music? This is doing my head in.

Intel Mac :: Login Items Still Show Up Even Though I Have Them Unchecked

Feb 3, 2012

I have unchecked every app in the Login Items menu in System Pref. Even deleted them out of the menu. Safari, iTunes, Mail, and a Finder folder show up automatically when I restart or login to my iMac.  I have read some posts on this and I'm also aware that you can right click on the app in the dock and make sure it is unchecked to open at login. This problem seems to have started after I removed programs I did not want to start up in the Login Item menu in System Preferences.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Migration Assistant Copied Everything Even When Unchecked?

Jul 4, 2012

My Snow Leopard boot disk had 12 years of accumulated crud, and was running slowly. So I did a nice clean install of Lion on a fresh partition.Redid some configuring, like sudoers, Flash, Time machine interval to 4 hours, locate.updatedb, etc. Wanted my old "Location" info (about a dozin networks).Gave Migration assistant a try. Unchecked EVERYTHING except Network Settings: Perfect.Only 24 KB. Probably just a couple of .plist files. What could go wrong? I'm running from a non-admin account. It copied all the Users. It copied all the Applications. It copied all the root level cruft. My pristine boot drive is burried deeper in crap that the American Constitution. My backup is a day old, and I worked all day. Another half a day to undo this mess. Next time I will find the config file and copy it myself. But why did it do this?

OS X :: Triple-click Versus Double-click/how To Make This Change To Leopard/Safari?

My workflow entails repetitive tasks that would be so much easier if I could set Leopard's (Safari's) default double-click functionality to select ALL text within the Google search box instead of having to use a triple-click. Does anyone know how to make this change to Leopard/Safari?

Hardware :: Unable Right Click/Left Click On Wireless Mighty Mouse After Disassembling

Aug 9, 2010

I had to dissassemble my wireless Mighty Mouse to clean it properly, as the trackball was unable to scroll up and down. As I had cleaned the trackball, I attached the two internal cables to their respective "slots" again and assembled the mouse.

Now my right button does the same as the left button (right click = left click). I tried dissassembling the mouse again, but I cannot see what I could have done wrong. After all, there are only two cables to attach and de-attach inside it.

Hardware :: Mighty Mouse Not Working Fine / Right Click Acts As Left Click

Feb 12, 2007

I just bought a mighty mouse, happy as I was, plugged it in and started my ibook running OS X 10.3.9.I know the mighty mouse shouldn't have full functionality (as the software delivered with it is >10.4.2).The problem is that the right click doesn't work right. When I try to right click it sometimes takes the right click, sometimes takes it as a left click (which is extremely annoying in firefox or finder).

I have SteerMouse (I'm a windows/linux user too) installed but when I denstalled it the problem remained.
When I plugged the mighty mouse in my pc (at that time running windows) right click just worked. When using a cheap mouse (from pleomax) the right click on the ibook (with Steermouse installed) works all the time.

I find this al really confusing. Seems like it can't be the hardware because it works on windows, but it can't be the software because another mouse does work.

I noticed that when right clicking at the total right side near the "expose-button" (not a position my fingers lay naturally) right click works all the time. I don't hope this is normal?

MacBook Pro :: Sometimes Trackpad Will Not Click

Sep 16, 2010

Basically, the trackpad works just fine most of the time. However, sometimes (often enough to be aggravating), it will not click. A typical scenario is this: I'll have a web browser or something open and I will want to close the window. So I go to click the red button. The cursor is over the red button, and the button turns to an x, notifying that I am in the right spot. I will click the trackpad, and it will make the click sound, and nothing will happen. I'll try clicking several more times and nothing. The click just won't register no matter how many times I click. What I will have to do to make it work is stop clicking and take my hand off the trackpad for like 5-6 seconds, then click, and it will work. I do not have tap to click on. This is a 15" MBP 2.4ghz i5.

I'm in a position where I have no way of clicking, this brings up a ridiculous problem I never thought I'd encounter whereby I can't even back up or fix the problem.

Ridiculous error if you ask me, there is an option to use universial access and turn on mouse keys but I can't click the stupid option.

How can I click/select items. Can't find any shortcuts that will allow me to do this, plugging in mouse still doesn't work.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Click Anything With Track Pad

Jun 20, 2014

I have a silver 2010 MacBook Pro that has OS X 10.8.5.

2.5 GHz Intel Core i5

4GB 1600 MHz DDR3.

Now that you have that info, onto the issue.

My track pad will work to move the pointer, but I cannot click on anything. If I shut down and restart my computer, I am able to use a usb mouse just fine. If I so much as touch the track pad the usb mouse will only move the pointer and not click anything. I will have to restart the computer to be able to use the mouse again.

I have tried a SMC and a PRAM reset and it did not work. I did check the track pad settings and those are all ok. I am not sure if there is a way to do the AHT without a disk. I did look into some .plist thing to, but was not able to find what they were talking about so I did not do that.

MacBook Air :: Does The Trackpad Have A Loud Click

Oct 22, 2010

For the new MacBook Air owners: how loud is the click on your trackpad?

I have a black MacBook which has the separate button (pre-glass trackpad). It's almost completely silent. On almost every unibody MacBook Pro though, the click is really loud and can sometimes even be heard in the next room.

How is this with the new Airs? Still loud or not really noticeable? I like to click instead of tap, but not if everyone can hear my neurotic clicking all day long
