As the title says, every time I reboot I get the multi-language kernel panic message (You need to restart your computer. Please hold down the power button for....). I've managed to get into the GUI by using different combinations of keys. I can't remember what they are (it's been different every time), but I believe one time it was holding 'x'. This time, I held Command+V to run what looked like a diagnostic POST (I actually did this to see where in the bootup it hanged, but instead it booted to GUI).
Any idea what this could be? I don't think anyone has added any third-party RAM (this was not my machine originally, I took over a position for another person), is there a way I can check if any RAM has been added?
I'm running 10.5.8 with 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 and a 2x2.66 Dual Core Intel Xeon.
Here's the Problem Report for Mac OS X Kernel:.................
This started happening around the beginning of this year. I contacted Apple Support and they worked with me on-line and over the phone. It happened again the next day. After it happened about 20 more times, I took it into the Apple Store and they decided to reinstall the OS. Since then, it has happened about 10 more times.
This has happened with and without attached devices or flash drives. It has happened on different wi-fi networks. It generally happens when I am navigating with the track pad or with a mouse. I don't recall ever leaving the room and returning to find the gray screen. In other words, it happens shortly after I have moved the cursor. I've noticed the pinwheel usually appears before the gray screen.

I'm frequently getting the problem that: many times the screen goes grey and a message box appears telling me that I have to restart. Often this is preceded by the fans gradually increasing in speed until they are runing at maximum speed. BUT the fans behaving that way is NOT due to overheating. I have to use the restart button to make the Mac restart. I have used reset button to reset the motherboard but that did not cure the problem. Anyone have any ideas about how to cure this problem? I'm running 10.4.9. The mac is a dual 1.8 (June 2004). 1.5GB RAM, two SATA internal HDs (Maxtor), two external firewire HDs (Seagate). All the HDs are less than a year old.

It looks like it's about to start up and then it goes to a gray screen and tells me to press the reset button or hold the power button, and it says that in like 3 diff. languages. What do I do? I'm a PC guy and know nothing about Macs.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to get my mac to start up, it won't get past the gray screen with the apple logo and spinning wheel. I have tried to use utility disk to fix the problem but it kept coming up with error- could not complete. It would also not see the hard drive in OSX 10.4 when trying to archive before re- installing. So we opened it in OS 9 which worked and we could see the hard drive. We restarted the mac in OS 9 in the hope that we could re- install OSX 10.4 from there. It will go right through the installation but comes up with error again when validating.

I can't launch iMovie '08. When I try to run the app, the icon appears on the dock, but no screen or message error is shown. It just hangs, and I must do "force quit". This only happens with my user, as I've tested with other users on the same machine and iMovie seems to be running OK. I've cleaned my user cache in order to solve any problem with that, but it didn't work at all. I have installed the last actualization (iMovie 7.1.4). I doesn't seem to be an interference with iPhoto, as other users have experienced, since I've deleted com.apple.iPhoto.plist and the problem still persists.

I am on mac laptop OSX 10.9.2 using Mail 7.2. I tried to open a "Mailer Daemon" message and it is frozen, not even open but a grey colored blank "message". I've tried: closing the message unsuccessfullyForce Quitting the application (reads "Mail (not Responding)") when I do. (4 times)Turning off the entire computer, letting it rest and rebooting. (3 times)Opening up my server on the internet and deleting the offensive message "mailer daemon"Turning off the computer again.
So...as soon as I open mail, the grey "message" is open. I can click on the Mail Viewer window and have that come forward, but all is frozen.Just did it again and it hasn't changed. Had to force quit again. Never before in 8 years of using the Mail application (different computers). The rainbow wheel of death spins and spins.

How do I get an error message when iphoto away? This has to do with pictures that are imported. My Macbook can't off because it involves the error melding.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn Tuesday I was using my computer for several hours when a "Panic" error message appeared. I could not move the mouse or get the computer to respond so I restarted. At this point my computer would not turn back on, so I removed the battery pack and replaced it, it still did not turn on. I hadn't been doing anything except sitting in my room talking on ichat and browsing on safari, so naturally I was really confused how such a cataclysmic event occur that would cause my computer to not even restart. At this point I got on my PC downstairs and made an appointment with my local Apple store.
When I got to the store they told me at the genius bar that it had been a kernel error, and asked me a few general questions about its typical performance and whether anything had been out of the ordinary recently, it had not. Next the "genius" I was working with asked if I had been having battery issues, and I did not think I had been until he asked if it was typical for my computer to be "calculating remaining battery". My computer had been giving me that message periodically since I bought it, but I thought that was typical. That is exactly what I told him and then he said he thought it could be my Logic Board, but as long as I had not spilled anything on it the AppleCare would cover any repairs...........................
When I try to open my email I get an error message that says you are probably not logged on to the portal. I have signed on to my email account. I have restarted my computer, I have made sure that I am not on face time, I have also logged off and logged back onto my email account.

I brought a 13" Macbook air late 2013 model in December last year. It has 4GB Ram and a 120GB Storage.I have a 160GB portable hard-drive which I store all my files on (Music, pictures etc) so this leads me to this question. Why do I keep getting the error message "Run out of application memory".That message pops up when I use Chrome (Only program running!!!!!!!!!! other than Finder) even if I have one page open??
It's also popped up before when no programs are running and causes the MacBook to freeze up resulting in me having to turn it off via the power button. I have run Disk utility and there appears to be no issues? I Googled the error message and all it brought was up people having problems with the calendar application which I do not use nor is it running?

If I have an event, starting on Friday, going on Saturday and and finishing Sunday, is it not possible to get this to show in the month view? I know it shows up in the weekly view, but it would be more helpful for me to have it up show up like this so I can get an overview of the month's forthcoming events. Or if it, are there any mods/addons etc that can enable this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of making the jump and making my first Apple computer purchase. Time machine will be a welcome native backup solution, especially since I can do it over the network automatically. However, I've read that Time Machine naturally requires HFS+ formatted disks. But I will still have my Win7 laptop for gaming purposes, and of course that requires NTFS or FAT32 for writability. My question: Can I just take a TM compatible external drive, split it into two partitions, and then specify that each computer backup onto its own partition with its own file system?
