MacBook Pro :: On Visiting Specific Website In Safari Other Websites Started To Show Up
Aug 30, 2014In Safari whenever looking for a specific web site, other web sites on the background start to erupt and show up, which I never look for, which has become so annoying. I tried to change the Privacy settings, but all in vain.

OS X Yosemite :: Safari Doesn't Remember Zoom Size When Visiting Websites
Dec 9, 2014When I visit websites, I constantly have to hit the zoom in button in the Safari menu bar. If I don't do this, there are words that overlap on the page. Is there a way I could make Safari remember my zoom options? I have 18 point selected under the Advanced section of Safari System Preferences. I also use Chrome and Chrome seems to remember my view options.

MacBook Pro :: Random Popping Noise?
Jul 3, 2008I just received my new MacBook Pro (2.4GHz) to replace my older CD Macbook Pro from 2006 which was suffering fan problems.
My new MBP is great and faster, with the exception of a really annoying "popping" sound that is coming from the left hand side of the laptop. It's sporadic and might happen every few minutes, or every 30 sec. or varying lengths of time in-between "pops."
I searched the forum hear and didn't come up with virtually anything at all, but the Apple Support Discussions had several threads on the topic, most pointing to the Hard Drive and the sound possibly coming from the heads parking on the disk.
Could anyone offer any advice on the subject? I just got this brand new MBP from AppleCare and really don't want to have to go through all the work on getting another replacement if this sound is normal.

Apr 28, 2009Today, i've been searching about the history of computer viruses and i found a website that made Safari 3.2.1 freeze with an infinite beach ball so i had to force quit it. My Safari has AdBlock enabled and for security reasons i deleted all my cookies.

OS X :: Mail Opened When Visiting NY Times Blog
Sep 18, 2009This happened this morning. I did not open the mail application. I was checking email via web mail in the Camino browser, clicked on a link to a NY Times blog, it went to the blog and I got a notification sound. Mail had opened. But I use Thunderbird as my default, and Camino is set up for that. I quit Mail, got out of that window, dumped the cache in Camino, quit Camino and ran ClamXav. No viruses or malware were detected.
I'm concerned about having an app open up on its own. I don't have any calendars synced to Mail. Does anyone have any ideas about why this would have happened, or what else I should do to ensure that everything is ok? I apologize if someone has addressed this, or if it is in the wrong place. I did a search and couldn't come up with anything.
OS X :: Automating Rather Complex Activity (visiting Website - Downloading Something)
May 20, 2010i've used automator for very simple projects, like batch resizing, batch renaming and the like. however, what i'd really like to do is set up system where at a pre-appointed time every day, my computer visits a newspaper website, downloads the digital edition as a pdf (there is a clickable link to do this), then uploads said pdf onto my idisk. then all i need to do is download it on my iPad. that i can manage! am i able to do this with automator? am i able to do this at all?

Dec 4, 2014I upgraded to Yosemite, but I kept my small partition of Snow Leopard. I got on the Snow Leopard partition this morning to use an old program, and that worked as normal. Now that I'm done, I am stuck in Snow Leopard. I can't find Yosemite to start in that partition. It doesn't show as a startup disk. I feel like I have lost my computer. The Yosemite disk partition shows up in disk utility, and I verified it. However, I cannot seem to figure out anything to get it to restart into that partition.
By the way, I tried restarting and pressing Command-R to get into Recovery Mode. That did not work at all. The Snow Leopard opened every time without going into Recovery.

Jan 22, 2009I was checking out various proxy servers with Firefox, trying to find a fast, reliable server. After testing one, my homepage [URL] came up as an "Apache Tomcat" page. This keeps happening even if I type [URL], it redirects to [URL], which displays the Apache Tomcat page. It says I have successfully set it up, despite never having even heard of it before. I have used the Terminal to check for recently modified files, and have looked through Firefox's preferences. Little Snitch reports no network connections by Firefox as it loads [URL] and displays the Tomcat page. I can still do google searches from the search bar in Firefox.
Below is a transcript from part of the page. I think that there's a UNIX file on my drive that has been modified somehow, but I haven't found it. OS X :: Macbook Pro Lid Popping Up?
Oct 28, 2007I just have a quick question for someone who may know a bit more than I do. I remember that usually when I pushed the latch release button on my Macbook Pro, the display lid would pop up so it was easy to open it. Now, however, when I press the release button the lid doesn't pop up at all. This makes it a little bit more annoying to open. Is this normal as time passes? Or should the display lid always pop up?

MacBook :: Getting Popping Sound On New MB?
Nov 18, 2008So I have had my new aluminum macbook for 2 weeks now and love it except for one issue. About once or twice a minute it makes a really annoying popping sound from the right speaker. It sounds like a crackle and then a pop. It happens if volume is up or muted, headphones plugged in/no headphones, music/video playing or not. Basically it happens all the time, nothing will stop the sound.
My question is should this be something I worry about, and get replaced/fixed? This is my first macbook and love everything about it except this popping sound. I have yet to contact applecare or take it to the store as I'm a busy college student and the store is an hour or so away. Just wanted to get your guys opinions on this issue first.
MacBook :: 2.4 Alu Button Popping Out?
Jan 8, 2009Searched this but didn't find anything similar.
I have a problem with a "q" button on my 2.4 Alu Makbook. If I press (normal gentle) the button several times near the left edge, the right edge of the button would pop out.
To put it back in I would have to push the button hard until a little click.
I took the button out completely and there is nothing wrong with it visually. Reattached and it still keeps popping out.
The fanny thing is that I only use macbook connected to the external monitor and keyboard so I really used a built in keyboard one or two times.
Has anyone had anything like that? Is there a way to fix it? Should I take to Apple Store?

Apr 18, 2009I rely on a program called SoundOn! to stop the popping sound on my Macbook aluminium while using external speakers. But, I seem to have done something (slash OS X seems to have done something) which means that the application now opens in Script Editor rather than a standalone application. When I go to the Get Info window in Finder to change the default application I cannot simply set it as an application and get a choice between TextEdit, Automator and Script Editor. I don't want any of these. How do I go about resetting this so it will work?
Also, maybe if anyone has a Cocoa application for the same purpose of keep-alive for the sound card I'd be really greatful, as this application was made for 10.0.0-10.2.x and hasn't been updated since 2003.

Oct 3, 2009The other day while using my MBP, I heard a 'pop' sound as I lifted my palm off the palmrest. I could duplicate the sound by pushing on the middle of the right palmrest. Turns out it is coming from the battery compartment door!
After it happened again, I determined it was when I had the slider door open and cool breeze was coming in. The cooler temps make metals contract and the fit wasn't so good apparently. Now I have a piece of thin cardboard sitting between the HD and the battery door to keep my sanity.

Jun 2, 2014Everytime I download a .dmg file to my downloads folder, a bunch of other .dmg files--and multiple versions of the same file--open up and place themselves on the desktop. So, for example, I try to install Silverlight, and a dozen Microsoft Office dmg files open up and show up on my desktop, and another dozen or so Flip4Mac dmg files do the same thing.
