Why do random menus keep popping up and what can I do to prevent them from doing it?
Info:iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.1)
I just received my new MacBook Pro (2.4GHz) to replace my older CD Macbook Pro from 2006 which was suffering fan problems.
My new MBP is great and faster, with the exception of a really annoying "popping" sound that is coming from the left hand side of the laptop. It's sporadic and might happen every few minutes, or every 30 sec. or varying lengths of time in-between "pops."
I searched the forum hear and didn't come up with virtually anything at all, but the Apple Support Discussions had several threads on the topic, most pointing to the Hard Drive and the sound possibly coming from the heads parking on the disk.
Could anyone offer any advice on the subject? I just got this brand new MBP from AppleCare and really don't want to have to go through all the work on getting another replacement if this sound is normal.
i just bought macbook pro and every website i visit has ads popping up, how i can get rid of them?

After updating to osx Lion I've been having trouble with a dialog box wanting me to enter my Kerberos user name and password. I have no idea why this happens and what user name / password it is asking for, I just hit cancel and everything else seems to work fine. But the dialog box keeps popping up again and again, it is pretty annoying. Can anyone tell me how to turn it off?

What are the random bleeping sounds on my computer?

Sometimes random applications quit unexpectedly, and sometimes the Finder keeps quitting and restarting repeatedly. Last time this happened after waking the machine from hibernation, and Skype and Chrome quit. Before other applications has quit as well, such as MATLAB and Spotify. Anyone got any idea what might be amiss? I've got the newest version of everything that I'm running.

When using Chrome 17.0.963.83, on Mac OSX 10.7.3, on my Mac Book Pro, Chrome will sometimes load very RANDOM pages. It may occur when I click on a link, ANY link, or it may occur when I'm doing nothing on a page.
A few examples:
When I'm scrolling up and down on any website - Could be a news website, could be Facebook, suddenly Chrome will start loading a completely random page - It might be about a vacation deal, or a new software launch, anything. And yes, I'm not accidentally clicking on stuff... It just loads on it's own. Another example is when I'm not doing anything.
For example, I might be staring at a graph of Insights on Facebook, or looking at an image on the web, and my hands are off the keyboard.I would have been on the page for anything from 1minute to 5minutes, and there is no "loading circle, meaning the page has fully loaded. Then POOF the loading circle appears, and next thing I know I'm redirected somewhere. Often when this happens, I simply do a double finger swipe backwards, to go Back, and just ignore the problem. However it's getting quite annoying, and I can't help but think it may be some form of Malware?
Now the thing is - I went to do some reading, and even from the Clam anti-virus website, it says that there are currently NO viruses for Mac at all.So I don't understand - I only have two extensions on Chrome, one of which is the bit-ly extension, the other being Flash 10.I have since disabled the bit-ly extension, but the problem is still persisting.
It is from about a week that my Macbook Pro superdrive started randomly emitting Eject--like noise 2 or 3 times a day (the superdrive is empty, non cd on it)Â Â

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having problems with all of my browsers opening random websites. All was working fine until one day Safari simply refused to open a few random sites. I thought it was a provider glitch, but they said it's not and besides I have no trouble opening those same sites on my iPad and even from my Bootcamp Windows 7 system. I have no idea what is causing it, some sites simply won't open without any explanation. The browser just keeps loading and loading and loading, but no effect. To make matters even more confusing, it even won't load some images in the mail. The system is up to date. The problem is the same in Safari, Chrome, Opera and Firefox with same web pages. Â

I'm aware of the Airport issue mentioned on these forums (and have tried the kext fix for that without any luck). I have KPs when watching 4+ minute long videos on Youtube (have no issue using iMovie for longer videos or watching videos from my own harddrive), sometimes when the screensaver is on or shortly after the computer goes unidle, and sometimes for no apparent reason. I've already had 2-3 KPs in the past 4 hours. This is my first Mac and not at all what I was expecting. Â
Sometimes the screen will flicker rapidly, other times I will get a black screen, pink screen, or the screen will "glitch" and move halfway to the left (right is now on the left and left on the right). I can sometimes delay the crash if I pause the video (the screen starts to twitch or have "lightning" flashes across parts of it) but it will eventually crash anyway. Â
I usually use Firefox but have had the same crash in Safari so it's not browser-related as far as I can tell.Â

This annoying bug is driving me crazy when I'm listening to music or watching a youtube video. It seems as if some process is interfering with sound output. I've already tried eliminating the problem by closing all apps, uninstalling perian, quicksilver, to no avail. Is there anyway to see which processes are using sound output at any given time?Â

I have iMac (2011) with OS X Lion 10.7.4, and I noticed that name of my hard drive has been changing on strange letters or some words chosen by random. It's quite strange. I have other apple computers and I have never experienced such things. I can't find any logical explanation of this "activity". Sometimes it happens after sleeping mode, sometimes there is no activity from my side or from OS. This is definitely not because of "accidentally pressed an icon of my HD and then pressed some keys" issue.

Brand new MBP 15, 10.7.2, just got today. Migrated old MBP 13 which was 10.6.8. Now at random, a message asking for permission for incoming connections pops up at random for about 1/2 second. It's so fast I can't click on the allow or deny button. I shot video of the screen so I could actually see a frame. It says to fix it in Firewall, but I don't see anything about postgres listed there. But I don't even know what the heck postgres is. How do I stop this.
View 14 Replies View Relatedhow, no idea how it happened, but I got a weird voice that came on and drives me nuts by telling me each menu item the cursor passes over. I have searched thru the manual and help and can only find information about voice recognition. How do I turn off the voice?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen 10.5 was released they were quite transparent and the look matched the transparent menubar. It was a nice visual flow. Then 10.5.1 came out and they went to almost opaque (apparently they are still SLIGHTLY transparent but at something like 95% its more or less impossible to tell).
Some apps, (compressor comes to mind) still have these transparent menu drop-downs and I think its a very good look, especially with the transparent menubar (again, visual flow is nice).
Every time a menu pops up asking me to choose yes or no, the mouse automatically moves to the yes like it's ready for me to click. I'm pretty sure I set it to do this a while ago, but I forgot how to change it back. It's late, I'm frustrated, and this is bothering me. A few searches didn't get me anywhere. Anyone know what I'm talking about and/or how to change it back?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am on OS Version 10.10.1 (14B25). Whenever I click on the green dot in the upper left corner of an open window, the window expands to take up the entire Desktop. Even more bothersome, the window expands to the top of the frame, covering up the Finder menus. Â
I need those menus. I have found by experimentation that waving the cursor around in the upper-left corner of the display can bring the Finder menus back into view. But that is only temporary. As soon as I move the cursor back to the content of the window, I lose the Finder menus again. The only way I can get the Finder menus to remain visible is to close the window that I am working in. Doing so defeats the whole purpose in clicking the green dot.  Â
Is there some preference somewhere that I can use to turn off this annoying new feature of Yosemite?

I have a 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 with dual Xeon 2.66GHz. One of my favorite apps on my Macs is iStat Menus for which I purchased a family pack. I am running latest version 3. However, when I added it to my Mac Pro I am getting goofy CPU temp readings. At idle I am reading about 60C on one CPU and 55C on the other. But then if I fire up all the cores (Handbrake for example) then the reported CPU temps DROP to about 48C and 43C (notice same differential of 5C between CPUs). All the fan speeds stay the same so it is not extra cooling kicking in. Seems to be reading the wrong thing.
I know with Intel that the CPU just reports the distance to Tjmax and then the software reading that number takes the TjMax reading for that particular CPU model and figures out the corresponding Tj. It almost seems to be what is happening is that iStat is reading the "distance to TjMax" and reporting that without doing the math. That would account for the reading working backwards I suppose.
I have a .mov I want to burn to a dvd with no region code that will play in any player (im in the EU and want to send it to the US).
I can't work out a way to do this in iDVD without having to use one of their crappy "themes" which i really don't want to do.
iStat Menus for Snow Leopard?
View 24 Replies View RelatedJust a strange occurrence this evening: I just watched a DVD on superdrive: when it finished, I ejected it and glanced at my Finder menu bar. IStat Menus gave me a temp of 135 and rising (went as high as 140 degrees a few minutes after ejecting and shutting down DVD Player). But the fans aren't on at all--never came on, as far as I can tell--and the MBA feels cool to the touch. Now it's maybe 20 minutes later and iStat reads temps as still at 115 degrees. But my laptop feels totally cool to the touch. I restarted, hoping to reset iStat, but no change. Any idea as to what's going on?
View 3 Replies View Related was surprised to see iStat menus is now a paid app. So if I update, I'll have to buy it.
Its a nice app, but I'm not sure if its needed, even if its only 10 bucks.
Anyone else care to chime in on this?
Don't get me wrong, if I like an application, I'll buy it. I've purchased delta walker (compare utility) and will be upgrading my transmit to version 4.
Its just this type of eye candy - is it worth 10 bucks (that's the discounted price, it will go up)
