MacBook Pro :: Hinge Makes Cracking Noise / Loud Popping Noise When Adjust Screen Position
Jun 6, 2009On my 13" MacBook Pro, the hinge makes a cracking noise on the right side of the computer (near the power button) when the screen is positioned all the way back.The entire hinge also makes a loud popping noise when I adjust the screen position. The screen seems very tight, and it takes a little bit of effort to move the screen, and when the screen is moved it makes the loud popping noise.
This is probably going to make some of you guys cringe, but sometimes putting pressure down on the top of the case close to where the black hinge meets to unibody enclosure seems to stop the popping noises. Putting downwards pressure on the hinge, or flipping the computer over and putting pressure on it that way, also seems to alter how much popping noise there is.
If I mess around a bit with applying pressure on different parts of the computer around the hinge, I can usually eliminate the noise. But, the cracking noise when I put the screen all the way back is still there.Any ideas what to do? It's not interfering with the operation of the computer, it's just incredibly annoying and this is only a four month old machine which shouldn't be creaking and cracking already.
MacBook Pro :: Random Popping Noise?
Jul 3, 2008I just received my new MacBook Pro (2.4GHz) to replace my older CD Macbook Pro from 2006 which was suffering fan problems.
My new MBP is great and faster, with the exception of a really annoying "popping" sound that is coming from the left hand side of the laptop. It's sporadic and might happen every few minutes, or every 30 sec. or varying lengths of time in-between "pops."
I searched the forum hear and didn't come up with virtually anything at all, but the Apple Support Discussions had several threads on the topic, most pointing to the Hard Drive and the sound possibly coming from the heads parking on the disk.
Could anyone offer any advice on the subject? I just got this brand new MBP from AppleCare and really don't want to have to go through all the work on getting another replacement if this sound is normal.

Aug 29, 2009Everything works perfect except this one thing. Was wondering what you guys thought of this problem. Didnt return it because i was hoping that it would go away with wear in. I checked the back, nothing is coming out of place, its just theres a sound when i open the macbook after its been closed for more than 20 minutes.[URL]

Jan 22, 2010Yesterday my speakers stopped working. It's not software based, the audio drivers are working properly. Whenever a sound that is over a certain volume is played, you can hear a pop come from the speakers. For instance, if I play a song that has fluctuating volume, every time the volume goes up, there's a pop, and every time it goes back down, there's a pop. The volume the computer is set to doesn't effect this. Even if it's muted, there's still a pop that's the same volume as if the volume is turned up all the way. Any ideas what could be causing this?

MacBook Pro :: Popping Sound During Audio Playback?
May 26, 2010Since a couple of days I'm noticing a popping sound during audio playback through my external speakers. That means when playing back a video or music through iTunes, basically always when there's audio playing. I'm in the process of figuring out if it also happens on my regular integrated speakers.
My MBP is the recently released 15" Core i7 model. Only thing I changed is I added an Intel SSD.
Any thoughts as to what it can be? Or where to start looking for a solution?
Mac Mini :: Popping Noise While Sleeping?
Mar 20, 2012I started to notice a "popping" noise (about 1 Hz) when I got external speakers for my Mac Mini. It occurs when the Mac is sleeping and the external screen is on (but sleeping its own "sleep"). If I disconnect the analog audio out (from where the external speakers take their signal) the popping ends. If I connect headphones to the same jack, I hear no popping in them. If I hit the power button on the external screen and power it down, the popping ends. It will not return even though I power the screen on again.If I disconnect the USB cable that power the speakers from the Mac, the popping ends, but returns when I connect again.

OS X :: Internal Mac Speakers Making A Sharp Popping Noise?
Jan 9, 2010Occasionally I'll be listening to music or just changing the volume and a sharp popping sound will occur from the internal speakers and then they shut off. No sound can play it all. To fix the problem I just have to reboot and then the speakers work fine. Does anybody know why this happens?
This happens on my iMac sometimes and it just happened on my new MacBook Pro and I'm wondering if it's damaging the speakers in any way.
Edit: I don't remember what I was doing on my iMac to cause this, but I do know what caused it on my MacBook Pro. I was recording my canary singing (don't ask why) using Quicktime Pro, and then listened to it (it worked fine). I imported it into GarageBand to crop it and when I previewed it there to figure out where to crop the file, my speakers popped and GarageBand gave me a warning about the current track not being optimized or something. Note that never happened on my iMac.

Oct 22, 2007I'm connecting my mbp to my new lcd sony bravia via dvi to hdmi lead and then connecting the sound via headphone jack to tv's 2 x phono, however i'm getting lots of audio noise bleeding through tv speakers underneath the main audio feed, i'm certain that its not a dodgy lead as iv'e tried 3 of them, however if i unplug the dvi lead the noise goes away, is it possible that the hdmi input is conflicting with the phono connection somehow.

When I plug in my earphone or headphone without any sound playing, there's a clear whining noise like zi zi zi sound which is really clear, sounds like old 80s radio noise. When I play the music, of course it was covered by the sound of music but it really bugs me out knowing that I cannot listen the pure sound of my music. Jul 29, 2008I have a G5 twin processor which I bought just before the Intel chip model. It has all sorts of hum and noise in the audio line out when connected to my larger home music system. I have Applecare and the Apple Store tells me that they need to replace the motherboard. I'm awaiting that part to come in now. However, it sounds to me more like old fashioned transformer hum and I'm wondering if anyone else has had this vexing problem -- and if so, how it was finally resolved? I'm too old to keep hauling the heavy unit around much more.
OS X :: Audio Input Making Clicking Noise?
Nov 8, 2009I am simply trying to connect my guitar to my mac by using a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter and inserting it to the input on my mac. Once iv done this i go into my sound in system preferences and it shows on the volume bar that its maxing out and once i go into garage band to try and record something all i hear is a "click click"! I have no clue what it is?

Nov 2, 2007I am trying to hook up the digital audio output on my cable box to the digital in on my dual 2.0 G5 running 10.4.9, 1 gig RAM. I have HDMI and component video out to monitor, but I use JBL creature speakers and sub for audio.
I have the propper cables and routing, sounds prefs set to digital in, and line out, to go to JBL creatures and first I get no sound at all. If I start AudioHijack and use same input and output settings all I can get is a hissing/clicking sort of sound. Same with using Soundsource and LineIn.
Audio MIDI Setup only shows or giveds me Built-in Audio for selections under system settings and properties for. Ausio Input and output show Master stream grayed out and I selected digital in and Line out for my sources and no change. Both ar set to 441000.0 Hz 2ch-24bit as well.

MacBook Air :: Have Static/noise Coming From The Speaker On It When No Audio Is Coming Out?

Mac Pro :: Pitched Noise Coming From System / Connected To External Audio Interface?
Jan 6, 2011just got happy about the fix for the audio / performance problem of the 09 mac pro's. Why should it be different, the next problem knocks at my door, hallelujah...
When I connect my external audio interface (apogee ensemble) to my mac pro, the mac begins to whistle...
As soon as I turn off my interface again, the whistle is away immediately . The sound is definitively coming from my mac pro and I couldn't locate the problem to a fan. I think it's maybe the firewire controller chip? When I connect my external lacie HD I have no problems at all. I have tried it on both ports on the back side with no success.
The whistle is not constantly on the same noise level. Sometimes it's away for a few seconds, it's high pitched and really annoying though. It does not matter if I playback audio or not. Nothing worked though. I experienced the whistle in the past few months sometimes but it was mostly just for a few minutes or so. But in the past few days it was constantly and it never really stopped. This drives me crazy when I have no audio playing and my room is silent !!
I have no other firewire cable (400 to 800) around to test it. Could this be the culprit also?
MacBook :: Low Pitched Electrical Whistling Noise / Crackling Noise Emitting From Magsafe
Dec 20, 2010I just got my 2.0ghz Alu Macbook a few days ago and everything works perfectly well, the thing is that after day one the magsafe started to emit a low pitched electrical whistling noise. It tends to be there a few minutes after booting into the OS and then it turns down to almost unhearable, but I experienced it returning after a few hours of use and then disappearing again. If I move close to the escape key I can hear a crackling noise emitting from the magsafe.I'm not trying to be overly nitpicky or anything but I read somewhere that if it's doing that it would be a faulty Mag-Safe board or something.
Does any one you guys know anything about this? I have the 14 days to return it as I bought it online from the Apple Store so if it's a faulty part that might die/break/ cause problems later I might have to.

Oct 1, 2009Sometimes I lift and carefully move my 17-inch MBP a short distance to another flat surface without putting it to sleep mode, it starts making really loud mechanical noise when I put it down, so loud that people in the same room can hear the noise and I can feel vibrations too! What causes this? Where does this noise come from? Is my MBP defective?

Jul 14, 2008Has anyone else had problems with an old G3 Pismo making an annoying squealing noise when plugged into a charger? There's a lot of noises mentioned in mac/apple forums but none of them relate to this one. Here's what it is not:
It's not coming from the screen or the fan or the speakers (it's under the keyboard). It's not low or slightly annoying (it is a loud squeal). It happens only when the power adaptor is plugged into the laptop.(it used to cease after I unplugged the power adaptor and plugged it back in three times; now that solution doesn't stop the noise anymore). It charges ok, and runs ok, scream or no-scream. It's quiet right now, but if I move the adaptor to another plug it will start again.
I was going to live with this, but today after an hour of operating quietly it just started again, and I hate to leave the house with this going.(it will scream whether the laptop is on or off. I have a really old battery and cannot replace it (I am currently staying in Mexico for the summer). Battery life is 45 min. I haven't tried pulling the battery out. That would be too easy.
This all started when I bought a replacement power adaptor (generic),after the original one melted down, but I could stop the screaming by unplugging/plugging it in again once or twice. Then I bought an expensive iGo adaptor, and it does the same thing.
I Did the PRAM and PMU reset.I can hear it over music or the tv. It grew lower in pitch today after squealing for a half hour. I'd normally not let it go on that long, but i was
in the other room.Is my PISMO dying?

MacBook Pro :: Fan Noise Or Hard Drive Noise?
Oct 25, 2008I just got my macbook pro yesterday and ran it all yesterday not hearing anything. Today when I woke it from sleep I could clearly hear the fan or hard drive going. I was in a quiet room and it's quite annoying.
istat says its at 2000 rpm so thats when I started thinking it may be the hard disk. It does pulse every now and then but thats even while it's just sitting idle.
I guess I could live with it but its just annoying. Anyone else having this?
OS X :: Macbook Pro Lid Popping Up?
Oct 28, 2007I just have a quick question for someone who may know a bit more than I do. I remember that usually when I pushed the latch release button on my Macbook Pro, the display lid would pop up so it was easy to open it. Now, however, when I press the release button the lid doesn't pop up at all. This makes it a little bit more annoying to open. Is this normal as time passes? Or should the display lid always pop up?

MacBook :: Getting Popping Sound On New MB?
Nov 18, 2008So I have had my new aluminum macbook for 2 weeks now and love it except for one issue. About once or twice a minute it makes a really annoying popping sound from the right speaker. It sounds like a crackle and then a pop. It happens if volume is up or muted, headphones plugged in/no headphones, music/video playing or not. Basically it happens all the time, nothing will stop the sound.
My question is should this be something I worry about, and get replaced/fixed? This is my first macbook and love everything about it except this popping sound. I have yet to contact applecare or take it to the store as I'm a busy college student and the store is an hour or so away. Just wanted to get your guys opinions on this issue first.
MacBook :: 2.4 Alu Button Popping Out?
Jan 8, 2009Searched this but didn't find anything similar.
I have a problem with a "q" button on my 2.4 Alu Makbook. If I press (normal gentle) the button several times near the left edge, the right edge of the button would pop out.
To put it back in I would have to push the button hard until a little click.
I took the button out completely and there is nothing wrong with it visually. Reattached and it still keeps popping out.
The fanny thing is that I only use macbook connected to the external monitor and keyboard so I really used a built in keyboard one or two times.
Has anyone had anything like that? Is there a way to fix it? Should I take to Apple Store?
