Trying to open Jacquie Lawson 2014 Advent Calendar. Followed Apple's instruction for opening non-Apple App Store app. They don't work, even though the app is in Finder. 2013 calendar was installed and opened on this machine last year with no problems.

Recently a week ago updated my system from 10.8.3 to the Latest Maverick 10.9.4. I have a Mac-mini bought in 2013, When Maverick was loaded Apple Store showed up and I was able to download updates. Now, the store only shows the Icon A with the circle, pencil and brush and gray. Nothing else shows up. What to do?

I have found apple mail to be great however when I go to open a forwarded email ".msg" I need to go back to my original email provider to open it. In apple mail it asks me to choose the appropriate application however I have had no luck.

When you click the pause/play button on the Apple Remote, iTunes opens and begins playing. The same thing happens when you hit the pause/play button on the media bar. I thought I was becoming dyslexic because iTunes kept playing randomly. It was only until today when I discovered this bug while playing a file in VLC. Apparently it happens with pretty much any app.

After a day of installing and trying/deleting new apps as well as trying terminal tricks from UsingMac.com like these and these, i went up to my apple menu in the menu bar for the first time since i started fiddling around, and it looks like what you see below in the attachment. I have absolutely no idea what made it happen; I'm just wondering if there is a way to reset the menu alone. because instead of having just what it says in the "system services" section in the menu, it has all that other stuff as well (Calculator, FruitMenu, etc.).
P.S.: Fruitmenu isn't even installed. i uninstalled it after i found out it was only a demo.
So basically:
1) how do i restore the main menu in the menu bar back to its original settings?
and 2) I need to do it in a way that wont screw up the rest of my computer or settings
I recently added a NAS with four main partitions (recognizes them as drives). Now, when ever I start up my mac, finder opens four panes, one for each drive. Is there any way I can prevent finder from automatically opening?

I recently went to turn on my laptop, and it started up, I heard the hard drive cycle, and it automatically went to a grey apple as the typical startup...but it froze there & a pinwheel was spinning...but it wouldn't boot up! What can I do to check this out?

I have a 2007 MBP (Santa Rosa) that won't open unless I take a flat tool in between the screen bezel and the top case and manually remove the latches from their slots.
When the little button on the front of the computer is pressed, nothing happens. I doesn't even 'push in', it just resists, no matter how hard I press.
Has anyone else encountered this problem or have any ideas how to fix this? Thanks a lot!
I would like to use an old Macbook as my media center in the living room, but it will only really fit on a narrow shelf; opening it and messing with the monitor settings each time would be very inconvenient.

The surprise was when I opened ajuuns home of Tiplea and I put on the table press the ON ... wait 1-2 minutes and waited 5 min. almost every time or at least 80% of the times i open my MACBOOK i hear a sound (kinda like a cracking noise) when opening it more than 90* angle, it seems it comes from the hinge on the left side, ohh and when it does that sound you can feel it, it is like if it gets stuck or something. I was recently changing a theme using Magnifique and since doing it have lost access to everything. Nothing will open, if I try I get an "app name quit unexpectedly" dialog box. I have no menu bar, no HDD icons, I am unable to open a finder window or any other applications. I'm completely lost as to what I'm supposed to do.

When I have it at home & shut down for the day, will closing the lid, & then opening it the next day weaken it? could I just leave the lid open when the laptop is shut down at the desk?
