MacBook Air :: Backup To USB Or SDHC Card
Dec 12, 2010Now that these are coming down in price, is anyone using them to exclusively back up with time machine? I'm thinking it will be a lot quicker to backup too, with the MBA being SSD. I've seen a 32GB USB stick for �20. Would USB or a SDHC card be quicker?

MacBook Pro :: Won't Fix / SDHC Disk Utility Formatting Error
Sep 30, 2010I am trying to format a SDHC card on my MBP. I am trying to create a recovery SDHC disk for my MBP.
The disk is a Transcend 16gb (class 10).
I formatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) w/ a GUID Partition Table but after this, Disk Utility is now showing only 10.38 gb of usable space, but finder is showing me the full amount (15.79 gb). When I look in finder there are NO files or folders on the drive.
I tested trying to put more than 10.38 gb worth of files on the disk and was told there was not enough space. If I format the disk to anything other than Journaled, I get the full 15.79 gb. Has anyone ever experienced this before?

Oct 28, 2009I would think the answer would be yes, but all the info I find on Apple's website and the search results I browsed through on the formums only mention SD cards. No mention of SDHC. My old computer only read regular SD cards, which was a real bummer. I have a SDHC card for my camera, and am hoping the new Macbook Pro I'm going to buy can read the cards.

May 6, 2009For some reason it seems that my macbook pro isn't reading the SDHC card in my multi (10-in-1) stratitec USB2CR8 reader. I can't seem to find info on whether or not it is the reader and it can't read SDHC or the 4GB card size, or if the issue is with my computer. Anybody got any ideas, and if necessary I'll go and buy a new memory card reader if that is the issue.

Oct 3, 2009I've got an 8GB PNY Optima SDHC memory card. My computer would read it fine until up to a couple days ago. The camera that I use the card in can still read it, and all my files are (were) still there, so I'm inclined to believe that the problem is with the computer. I'm completely clueless when it comes to using Macs though, just recently made the switch over. Would anybody be so kind as to give me a hand here? I've tried reformatting the card in my camera, but that didn't change anything.

Sep 3, 2009I have a Panasonic DMC-TZ4 that I use for both pictures and video. I have a 1 gb SDHC card that has worked fine connecting to my Macbook (last white middle model, late 2008) via my generic 23 in one card reader. However, today I purchased a HP 16 gb SDHC card and it won't read on the Macbook at all. My camera uses it and acts as normal, but the drive won't even show on my Mac.
I attempted to use the card reader in Windows XP Pro via Parallels, and the same thing happened. In fact, I got an error stating that the USB device had malfunctioned. The card reader IS old. Maybe it's having trouble with the higher capacity? I'm going to try the cable that came with my camera, when I can find it. I may need to try a new card reader as well?

Apr 4, 2012They have no in-built readers so I have tried as follow - 3 different USB external card readers (1 plug-in and 2 cabled), 2 different cables, 4 different cards (2 of each), and all of their combinations on all USB ports on both computers. All to no avail. Cards won't show neither on desktop, Finder, Disc Utility nor Image Capture. Mind you though, SDHC card will be seen by iPhoto (and iPhoto only) if it's plugged directly through the camera or printer/ scanner. Only it's a bit annoying process having to use it just to read the card! Not to mention the use of iPhoto (which I don't, normally) just to transfer images through it to their destination. I work with a lot of images, videos and music, and not having been able to transfer them smoothly makes my work a bit of a nightmare.

Sep 12, 2010I was toying with this idea mostly for a backup boot drive for my 2010 Mini.
Since SDHC memory cards are so small, that's why they appeal for this use. I have 32GB ones that should work just fine since I'm now using 40GB SSD's for boot drives. My current boot requirement is only around 27GB with OSX, Home, all Applications, etc.
Think what a nice compact size you could have for a boot drive. The question is can you boot to SDHC's. If you can boot to an USB stick, why not an SDHC?
If it routinely works, then I could use both internal drives for lots of data storage. Maybe that could replace SSD's for boot drives. Or maybe the transfer rate is too slow for SDHC's.

Nov 29, 2010I recently added a NAS with four main partitions (recognizes them as drives). Now, when ever I start up my mac, finder opens four panes, one for each drive. Is there any way I can prevent finder from automatically opening?

MacBook Pro :: Opening Lid/not Pushing In?
Jan 11, 2011I have a 2007 MBP (Santa Rosa) that won't open unless I take a flat tool in between the screen bezel and the top case and manually remove the latches from their slots.
When the little button on the front of the computer is pressed, nothing happens. I doesn't even 'push in', it just resists, no matter how hard I press.
Has anyone else encountered this problem or have any ideas how to fix this? Thanks a lot!
