Jun 4, 2009I had an image from an older macbook (10.5.4) and I put it in a newer MacBook which I assume was could not boot as far back as 10.5.4, so I updated it by booting 10.5.6 on an external and running the combo 10.5.7 update on the MacBook's internal drive. I boot and after staying on a blue screen for a while, it goes black and shows me a command prompt and I can see all the processes starting up. then it goes back to blue and works normally. On shutdown, I see the prompt again. I cannot boot into safe mode or single user mode for some reason. When holding down the s and shift it still does the same thing. I can however still use option to boot from a different drive.
The computer runs perfectly normally once booted. I just don't want to see the command line stuff. So is there some way to stop it, or hide it?

Sep 15, 2009I just noticed today that the left menu column is not showing on iPhoto. You know the one that says Library, devices, last import, things of that sort. I've checked in preferences and all over the internet and I can't find anything on this issue. I even called apple and they didnt have a fix either. I am using iLife 08' as well if that information is important.

Aug 26, 2010Running OS X 10.5.8 on a Macbook Pro that's roughly 2 years old (maybe a little more). About a week ago I noticed that I was unable to copy/paste/undo/cut. Thought it was a total command key failure at first but other shortcut functionality is intact (cmd+t/cmd+w etc). So I've isolated the problem to the left cmd key and the bottom row of my keyboard. Separately they work just fine, but they refuse to work together.

Out of the blue the sidebar on the left of the finder just disapeared.Â
I searched and foud some fixes like deleting .plist file and clicking the oval button on the top right of finder, and nothing works.Â
I know when I click on the oval it's suppos to appear, but it's not. The only thing that happens is that the top part hides and appears. I just want to get my finder the way it was. I actually have folders there for quick access and now it's gone.Â

May 30, 2012I am trying to get pictures off an SD card that I have in a card reader, plugged into the USB port. I'm not finding an icon for this anywhere! I've tried 2 card readers, as well as plugging my camera right into the USB port, and none of them show up! It was working just find 2 days ago, and now it's not. The USB port shows up in System Profiler, but not in Disk Utility.Â

I experience that I have to use this command several times as some programs just want minimize based on one command. It requires that one makes the programs active by clicking the cursor and than use cmd M again.

Feb 9, 2010I was just dragging some items around the desktop into some folders in the Finder and I guess something got messed up. When I was finished moving things around, a small square icon appeared in the left hand corner of the screen that cannot be dragged to another location or deleted. Whenever I click, it a small screen pops up momentarily, saying that it's going to open a file (I deleted the file) and nothing happens. After I deleted the file, the small square box just contains a picture of a question mark. I'm trying to get rid of it, but I don't know how to.

Jun 27, 2012Ever since I upgraded to Lion from 10.6.7 a couple of weeks ago and then up to 10.7.4, one desktop picture appears off to the left and a little high. The other picture is a no-show. I have an 2010 27 iMac with a Dell 30" u3011 as a 2nd display, using an Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter. The Dell's on the left set up vertically with the menu bar. The iMac on the right is horizontal. On startup, the iMac's desktop image aligns to the Dell's left side, runs across the top half of the Dell and ends a little onto the iMac.
The image gets cropped at the top. The Dell's image doesn't appear at all. I'm guessing it is offstage to the left? Where the iMac's image does not reach is a light gray, something a bit darker the Solid Gray Light. Everything functions fine: mouse, Finder, apps, but, still, what gives?? No monitor issues before Lion. The only fix I've found is temporary until the next restart or startup.I change the screen resolution and then change it back. Occasionally, this fix has survived a couple shut downs or restarts.
What I've also tried: Resetting the PRAM and the unplugging everything for 2 minutes trick. No good. I was using personal .png images. I shifted back to the default galaxy shot. I tried putting the menu bar on the iMac. I tried the other user account which is barebones and seldom used. nope. Several times, I deleted com.apple.desktop.plistcom.apple.desktop.plist.lockfilecom.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect.plist Problem recurred right away. I typed killall Dock in Terminal. This worked to restore the desktop images right away, but the problem recurred on startup.

One of the first things i noticed was the fact that my hardrive that 10.6 is installed on is not showing up on my desktop like it used to in 10.5. Has any one else had this problem. I have also updated to 10.6.1 but that did not sort the problem out.

Jun 22, 2009i woke up this morning and my western digital external HDD icon is not showing up on the desktop. I currently use this as a time machine and it has been working for about a year. This has happened before and just a simple re-plug of the usb does the trick, but i have been working on this for hours and for some reason it is not showing up. I have unplugged everything and re plugged them back in and nothing is working. i have checked the disk utility and the disk utility recognizes it. but i still dont know why it doesn't have an icon. i am running a repair disk on the external HDD now and it and it has been "repairing" for about 30 min now. i have tried to backup but it is not working either.
