OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Left Sidebar On  Finder Not Showing?

Jun 27, 2012

I have an iMac - Mac OS X 10.6.8

Out of the blue the sidebar on the left of the finder just disapeared.

I searched and foud some fixes like deleting .plist file and clicking the oval button on the top right of finder, and nothing works.

I know when I click on the oval it's suppos to appear, but it's not. The only thing that happens is that the top part hides and appears. I just want to get my finder the way it was. I actually have folders there for quick access and now it's gone.

I am a reasonably experienced iMac user but can anybody tell me please why the (grey) sidebar in Finder has gone missing and tell me how to get it back?  I have never seen this happen before.

I am running Snow Leopard on an iMac (intel).  Obvious things like preferences/Sidebar checked (all items in there ticked including Devices, Shared, Places, etc).

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Writing DVDs / CDs Failed - Burn Folders Left Behind In Finder

May 8, 2012

I had tried to write several DVDs and CDs before, and they failed (it turned out to be that they were already used DVD-Rs), but the burn folders for them are still on the sidebar in Finder, as shown in the pictures below. It's not necessary, but I would like to get them off, so is there any way to do it?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: 166Gb Of Free Space Not Showing In Finder

Jun 6, 2012

my Mac started saying I need to free up space on my Startup Disk. I was suprised, but as I've been doing some film work, I just thought it must take up even more space than I thought. Anway, I free'd up loads of spaced, I moved all my film files to an external disk, deleted them from where they were, and emptied the trash. I've got rid of other things like Internet cache and downloads, basically, I know i have space now. However, my Mac insists on saying I only have about 2Gb free. On another site, someone recommended something called Disk Inventory X, which gives a visual picture of what files etc are taking up space on the Mac. I ran this, and low and behold I have 166Gb free. The screen shot below shows the big blue square of free space. If you can zoom in, it shows this as something outside of the home 'Tiger' thing, under Users - .tiger, as though its partitioned or something?! I don't really understand how Mac's work under the hood of pretty buttons etc, so I'm a bit stuck now.

why my Mac can't see or let me use all this free space?

I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. It is a 13" mid 2009 MacBook Pro 5.5, 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4Gb 1067 MHz DDR3 if that's of any help.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Preview Show Text Of An Annotation In Sidebar

May 11, 2012

I have several PDF docs with several annotations in them. When I show the sidebar in Preview it lists page, type, date, and author, but does not display the words in the annotations! With a long of annotations that only identify themselves by "Text", it's laborious to find the note one is looking for. (One has to manually step through each one at a time!)

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Cannot Open Finder Window And Finder Preferences Don't Stick

Apr 5, 2012

Sometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.

Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.

OS X :: Finder Sidebar Has Disappeared - How To Get It Back

Oct 9, 2010

I have had an app called Total Finder installed, they recently did an update, which caused me to have sidebar problems. I have since deleted this app, because I couldn't work without my sidebar.

After deleting the app, and re-launching finder, I now have no sidebar, no options, search box or back buttons in my finder window, and my folders open in new windows when the 'always open folders in new windows' box is unticked.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Put Shortcuts In The Finder Sidebar?

Mar 29, 2012

one of the most convenient things for me as a photoshopper about Snow Leopard was to be able to have sort cuts in the finder side bar under "Places" so i could just drag the image i wanted to open to the left onto the App icon and it would open it from there.  NOW I have drag it to the dock to open or open the dropdown menu... both slower.  I am not happy about this.... Is there a way to get this function back... I have looked and looked and can't find it!

OS X V10.7 Lion :: My Finder Sidebar Won't Resize

Apr 17, 2012

My finder window's sidebar appears to be locked and I cannot resize it.  I've read that when putting my mouse in the line between the sidebar and the files area to the right it should change to a bar cursor that I can then use to resize the sidebar.  But the cursor never changes when I do this so I cannot resize the sidebar.  Any suggestions to re-enable this?

MacBook Pro :: Icons On Finder Sidebar Gone And Preferences Not Returning Them?

Mar 15, 2012

I opened a new Finder window to find out that all the icons in the sidebar are gone, and going to finder --> preferences doesn't help. They're still ticked, but don't show up. I tried unticking them all, closing preferences, then opening preferences and ticking them again. No luck. I tried restarting the computer, no luck. I've heard that dragging the file com.apple.finder.plist onto the desktop and restarting helps, but I can't find it. It's not in Library/Preferences and a search doesn't show it. I can see a veriety of other com.apple.----- files but not the finder one.
