MacBook Pro :: Unibody 17'' Antiglare/matte Display Not Centered - How To Set It

Oct 14, 2009

Just received my new uMBP 17'' with antiglare/matte display. It works like a charm an is definitely and upgrade from my old MBP.

But after using it for 6 hours I discovered that the display itself is not centered!! How can this happen?". I googled/MRoogled the problem and it turns out its not that uncommon on the 17'' with antiglare display:

Hardware :: Macbook Unibody Display Or Hinge Disassemble?

Dec 22, 2008

I am trying to anodize my alluminum Macbook unibody that I just got and I have begun disassembling it. In order to anodize or electroplate the aluminum, it must be stripped down to pure metal. No cable, wires, boards, nothing. THe bottom half of the computer with the motherboard and keyboard I have succesfully gutted. The top half, however, I am having no such luck with. I need to remove the hinge/lcd/display assembly from the aluminum back cover. I have searched everywhere online and can find nothing. Ifixit does not go that far. The youtube video by this other company shows the Macbook Pro display and hinge magically come off, but they do not share how [URL].

MacBook Pro :: Red Tint On Antiglare 15" Core I7 (9CB7 Screen)?

Apr 23, 2010

The first MacBook Pro I got had the screen off centre (it was left in the bezel - there was no black perimeter on the left but a big one on the right). I did notice it also had a reddish tint to it. That display was a 9CB7.

The replacement has the screen more centred, so happy with that. But there is a red tint to this one too on the top left.

The bottom right is fine, colours look great, but middle and top left there is a red tint. The Safari bar is very warm when I have it up the top left, but when I move to the bottom right, it is perfect grey.

Anyone else got the 9CB7 screen? Red tint to that?

I'm going to have to exchange it again.. and hope I don't end up with the 9CB7 or any other issues.

MacBook Pro :: AntiGlare Switch With Glossy?

Jun 20, 2012

I'm going to buy my friends 17" MBP off him soon. It as an antiglare display, I was wondering if Apple could replace it with a glossy display (I like the way the black border looks with the keys lol)? If they can, does it cost anything (has 3 year AppleCare)?

MacBook Pro :: Best Aftermarket Antiglare Solution For 15"?

I love my year old MBP. However on campus I've noticed that when using it in class and outside or in a restaurant, the glare is awful. I wish I had gotten the AG screen, but I do not want to sell mine and buy another. What is the best screen shield that I can put on my notebook?

MacBook Pro :: Cool Feature - Only Available On Antiglare Bezel

May 25, 2010

In the recent glossy vs. AG discussions, I've not seen anyone else point out one of the coolest features of the silver anti-glare bezel: the laser drilled microholes for the camera light! IMHO, this is too-cool. A now-you-see-it, now-you-don't light which literally appears to come from solid aluminum. Incidentally, it's my opinion that the manufacture of this bezel - including the laser-drilling of these holes - explains a portion of the added $50 cost for the AG. It's a very-cool piece of manufacturing. This is similar to the power/sleep light on the main unibody, but if you look closely at the power light, you can see the holes when unlit. The camera light is absolutely invisible when off.

MacBook Pro :: Unibody Bent Screen Repair?

Dec 15, 2010

I was walking into my friends house the other night with my Macbook Pro in an Incase sleeve and it fell out of my hands and onto the concrete. I assume it landed on the edge of the screen and bent it inward. The screen and everything work properly and the issue is only cosmetic but it's driving me crazy.

I have an appointment at the genius bar tomorrow but would like to know how much Apple would charge for repair beforehand. If anyone has experience with this please chime in.

OS X :: Unibody Macbook Pro - Blank Screen On Wake Up?

Mar 22, 2009

This has happened 2 times (rarely). Basically, when I wake up the macbook pro, the screen would remain "blank". I know the screen is on because I can see the mouse pointer but the whole screen is black. I'm assuming Finder has crashed?

I don't know how to restart on the macbook (ctrl + alt + del didn't work, using option didn't either) so I just held down the power button for 4 seconds and restarted that way.

MacBook Pro :: Screen Washed Out Of Unibody When System Put Into And Woken From Sleep

Jan 2, 2009

if anyone else is having problems with their unibody Macbook pro screen getting washed out after a while - especially if the computer has been put into and woken from sleep. I run a 24 inch dell monitor along side my MBP in dual monitor mode, the MBP the slave monitor, with the Dell the main monitor. After a while of use, approx 2 hours, the macbook pro screen fades out/appears washed out. It seems to settle after either a restart or dimming the MBP screen to black for a few minutes. My MBP is not on a cooling stand but I'm going to get one Is this a heat thing, a firmware thing or a defective hardware? I'm running 10.5.6 and have updated the firmware/efi as per apple updates.

MacBook :: Differences In The Older Versus Newer Unibody Screen

May 27, 2009

I've heard that there have been some differences between the older and newer Macbook screens - I'm thinking about buying a reburb unibody macbook and want to know how significant the difference is. If it's big enough I'll use my student discount to get a new mac with an iPod and then sell the iPod for the price difference, but that is a lot more work and initial money spent vs just getting a refurb. Does anyone have any experience with both?

Upgraded ram immediately to a G.Skill 4Gb kit. 4 days ago, computer randomly froze with horizontal coloured bar. Called Apple next day, the guy there told me that sometimes this happens, and that I should only be worried if this occurs ago. 4 days later, we are at this present scenario: In the last hour or so, has crashed 3 times. Programs running in common were iTunes and Safari.

MacBook Pro :: Disassemble - Finding Tri Wing Screwdriver?

So I need to take apart my MBP and will need a tri wing screwdriver...BUT I don't own one. Is there a B&M store that sells these? I googled and honestly couldn't find anything but online shops. I live in California, so if anyone knows stores here that sell them, that would be great. Also, if there's any other "normal" screwdrivers that would get the job done just as well, I'd like to know about em.

OS X :: Unibody MBP Screen Freeze & Screen Height Cluster?

Mar 19, 2009

Just got my new macbook pro last week, been having some problems ever since i changed my ram to Kingston 1066MHz DDR3, supposedly to be compatible with the MBP.

I have experienced horizontal lines of flickering and freeze of my entire system, which requires me to do a hard reset. I have recorded a video of it here.

I have also experienced similar type of freeze, but the screen pixels just cluster together at the top 20% of the screen, much like this.

I have ALSO experienced my keyboard totally not responding when i try to recover from a password saved screensaver!! The mouse is working fine, but the system just can't detect any keystroke input, forcing me to shutdown forcefully again!

I don't have time to send in my MBP as i need to work on it, and cannot do without a machine, any ideas how to resolve this?

May i also know which rams are compatible with Mac?

MacBook Pro :: Unibody - Dell 2408WFP Waking From Sleep And Washed Out Screen

Apr 6, 2009

I bought a new unibody Macbook pro in December and have had it linked to a Dell 2408WFP for 4 months now (dell monitor as primary monitor, macbook as slave via apple mini displayport to DVI adapter) and I am also using the dell USB ports to hook up my apple wired keyboard and logitech revolution MX mouse. Problems occurring ever since the beginning include: Occasionally the computer refuses to wake up either screen. It may flash blue and look like its going to come out of sleep (or monitor shut off) with no problems but then hangs. This is intermittent and I cant seem to trouble shoot what causes it. On top of that, more frequently, the Macbook screen looks washed out (loss of colour depth). It doesnt flash and there are no blank/white areas of screen, just very poor colour depth. This can occur even coming out of screen saver mode. It seems to correct itself with time or disconnecting the dell monitor. Main programs I always leave open are Firefox +/- Transmission. Seems to happen regardless of programs being open or not. Have updated everything that Software Update can find to update. Anyone else having these problems or have any ideas how to fix?

MacBook :: Unibody Display - Connected To External Monitor - Black Screen

May 7, 2010

Well my unibody macbook display decided to screw up last night, it was working fine last night no problem. Connected to a external monitor. I fell asleep last night with front row left on, obviously it went to sleep and then I woke up and the screen was black. Now the LED lights are working, my external display is also working. The display settings recognize a screen being present (when I click detect displays and gather windows - 2 windows appear). Ive reset PRAM, SMC, reseated the RAM, control+shift+eject (which just made the screen flicker a little after turning it back on) and Im out of ideas. Its out of warranty and about about 18months old.

MacBook Pro :: Humble Comparison - I5 2.4Ghz High Resolution Antiglare Vs I7 2.66Ghz Glossy

May 8, 2010

Currently owing the top of the line i7, and after reading a lot about the antiglare and its high resolution I went to the Apple store (twice) to check and compare both screens. I spent around 2.5 h trying to make my mind, looking at different angles, playing movies, launching applications, etc. I was almost giving up in trying to find a solution for this when an apple store rep. talked to me. His suggestion was to look at the same picture on both computers at full screen. He said that for photos and prints, the antiglare image will be closer to what you get in the prints (with out any extra monitor calibration off course). When I started looking at the pictures very closely and with detail, I could see that the clarity and quality of the same picture was better and "crispier" on the antiglare than on the stock glossy resolution. That was my turn point and made my decision on the antiglare high res. There are other reasons why I wanted the antiglare, like the reflections I am getting in my home; but really the point was made once I looked at the clarity of the pictures in the high res screen compared with the standard res.

One point I noticed in the high res screen was that the only application where I could say the fonts were really small and maybe uncomfortable for me was on iWork applications. The icons for the format bar were really small. But in Office, everything seem OK for my eyes (I need glasses for long distance sight). I can say that by looking at both machines at home, the glossy colors look more vivid, and that the viewing angles are better than the antiglare which looks a little bit like washed off to me. But still, prefer not to have reflections and the crispier pictures.................

MacBook Pro :: Dust Specks Inside MacBook Pro (Unibody) Screen?

Jul 5, 2009

Just weeks after buying my new unibody MacBook Pro in late December 2008, I noticed a few dust specks. I was in Shanghai (where there were no Apple Stores), so I waited a few weeks until I was supposed to go to Sydney.

When I arrived in Sydney, I booked a Genius Bar appointment. After the Genius inspected the screen and attempted to wipe the screen with some iKlear, he told me that he would check if there were any new screens and that if there were, he would replace it today.

So, I waited for about four hours for the repair, then came at the time he told me to collect it. I waited for another two hours, as the Genius also found out that my AirPort Card was faulty, so they were going to replace that as well.

It was about ten o'clock at night when I got back my MBP with a new screen. I thought everything was all right, until I found out that the person who repaired my screen had misaligned the top and bottom, so the bottom stuck out 2mm, or rather, the screen was sunk back 2mm. I couldn't go back to the store the next day, since I was bound to go back to Shanghai early next morning since I had school on Monday (I'm a student).

After about two weeks with the new screen, I noticed that the hinge had gotten noticeably looser, and when I moved it, it wobbled back and forth for a few seconds. Then, a week from then on, I noticed a dust speck in the lower left corner. I also had one in the center of the screen. The summer holidays were in two months, so I decided to just hold on for a little longer.

Since the summer holidays have rolled around, I'm going back to Sydney in July. Do you think that Apple would replace my screen the second time?

EDIT: I also found out that my MBP has some type of problem. It is extremely dependent on the battery, and I have to plug in the charger, or it shuts down instantly (or in a few minutes). After the crash, the battery lights would blink on and off (all of the lights). I'd have to remove the battery cover, pull out the battery, put back the battery, close the battery cover and plug in the charger so that the lights would revert back to the normal lights.

I went to a dealer in Shanghai about it and they told me that it might be the battery's problem, so I got a new battery for testing out, but then the computer shut down after about one hour of usage. I'm almost definitely sure that it is the logic board's problem, and do you think that Apple would replace my logic board for free? (I have never dropped my MBP, or have any reason for it to suddenly turn faulty.)
