View 16 Replies View RelatedMy PowerBook G4 (specs in the bottom, except 250 GB drive) HDD is failing. It is the standard 80 GB one that came with the notebook. I have a 250 GB WD scorpio ready to go in, but I have a couple of questions. First of all, if I use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone my existing disc to the new WD scorpio by using a PATA drive enclosure (USB 2.0), will it boot once put in the notebook? Does it need to be a firewire enclosure to be able to boot? Second, what is the average life of the original Hitachi drives (80 GB) that were put in this model of PowerBook. This is the 1.33 GHz model with the superdrive 4x. I just want to know what to do before I disassemble it.

Can't for the life of me figure out how to pop the case...or if its a SATA drive for that matter. I omega wont even tell me on their product overview!
I need to get at the hard drive in a dead 2002 iMac G4 (the "dome" type). Can anyone point me to a disassembly guide anywhere online? I've taken the bottom plate off, but if there's an easy trick to separating the monitor from the base before you do that, I'd like to know

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I need to take apart my MBP and will need a tri wing screwdriver...BUT I don't own one. Is there a B&M store that sells these? I googled and honestly couldn't find anything but online shops. I live in California, so if anyone knows stores here that sell them, that would be great. Also, if there's any other "normal" screwdrivers that would get the job done just as well, I'd like to know about em.

View 18 Replies View RelatedI am trying to anodize my alluminum Macbook unibody that I just got and I have begun disassembling it. In order to anodize or electroplate the aluminum, it must be stripped down to pure metal. No cable, wires, boards, nothing. THe bottom half of the computer with the motherboard and keyboard I have succesfully gutted. The top half, however, I am having no such luck with. I need to remove the hinge/lcd/display assembly from the aluminum back cover. I have searched everywhere online and can find nothing. Ifixit does not go that far. The youtube video by this other company shows the Macbook Pro display and hinge magically come off, but they do not share how [URL].
View 6 Replies View RelatedIf there's a thread on this, feel free to close this one, but I searched and couldn't find anything. I need a guide on how to remove the display casing on a unibody MBP with an anti glare screen. Specifically, how to remove the actual top shell, where the Apple logo is. The LCD panel itself, I don't need to take apart. Is this possible? If someone has a link to a guide, that would be awesome.

I recently purchased a new SSD and would like to input that into my MBP 2012. If I have a partition on my external HDD that contains the carbon copy of my MBP, am I able to clone it into my SSD after I have installed it in the MBP through the USB?
Internal HDD --> External HDD
Place internal HDD into optibay, and place SSD into the harddisk slot
Connect External HDD via USB to MBP
CarbonCopy to new SSD via USB from External HDD
Format Internal HDD
Will this work?

View 4 Replies View RelatedHow do I transfer all data from my old internal hard drive to a new internal hard drive? I have an iMac with a 320gb internal HD that is full and I am replacing it with a 2tb internal drive. I have several external drives; 1 tb, 2tb and 3 tb. The 2 tb is being used for Time Machine. Do I have to buy an enclosure? If so, where would I get an inexpensive one? I also want to partition the new internal drive for Windows, and I'm not sure how much space to use for that. I plan to use Windows to check my work in PowerPoint created on my Mac for clients on PCs.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThere are 2 extra Sata ports on the motherboard, so I figure I need to get a Sata-Sata cable, build some sort of tray to fit the drives securely into the lower DVD drive bay, so far so good, no big deal; I understand the extra Sata ports are more easily accessable in the 2008 MP.
But how about power , will I need some extra power supply, or does the Sata cable take care of that ?
I know about the brackets one can get for external eSata drives, and this solution .

Obviously I could run a cable to an external usb port but I am trying to get it to work internally. This card has two lights on it which acknowledge it is on and that an express card is in they light up but in windows I am unable to get my express card to mount. I'm sure it has to do with the fact the usb on the inside of the card needs to be plugged into the mobo. PCI Express with Transfer Rate 2.5GB/s Full Duplex Channel Compliant with PCI-Express Revision 1.0a One USB 2.0 port connection needed from the motherboard for fully ExpressCard compatible Fully plug & play I have read the mac pro early 2008 has some satas hidden inside near the fans Are all the mobo usb used? In device managet I'm counting 5 USB Root Hubs, 3 Generic USB Hubs. I'm guessing the generic are the devices I've plugged in and the 5 root hubs are the front two usb and the rear three. So there are none inside that are unoccupied? Do I have any other options like get a 2nd card with internal usb and connect pci to pci?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy following problem deals with both MAC and PC. I know this is a MAC forum but I posted here a long time ago and recieved great results.
I've been researching my problem for the past two days and I have given up. I dropped my MacBook and it fails to work. I took the internal HD out in hopes of retrieving the content. I currently have the HD hooked up to a windows PC and my PC recognizes this. After researching why I could not view the contents of the MAC drive with current programs that allow me to do so, I found out the drive turned RAW. After over 10+ programs of trying to find a program that will allow me to explore the RAW MAC HD on my PC, I found 1 program, but I had to buy it in order to extract the files, it was a 200 dollar program, something I will not buy.
My question is, is there a better way of extracting the content of my MAC drive on my PC? I understand I'm using a PC and part of my problem pertains to one but that is all I have. Any recommendations on retrieving my content through certain programs would be great. Even programs that will allow me to at least retrieve my pictures.
I read many threads on the subject of blu-ray. I did not see one about the LaCie external drive. It runs for about $600. and comes with the software to burn and view. Now, does anyone know if there is an internal drive that will fit and run in a MP?

If I cannot plug my phone line into the port how can I send and receive faxes on my computer?
What is everyones experience with the wd 2 tb internal drives for the mac pro. I'm planning on purchasing 6 and software raiding them and I've been reading reviews on sites like newegg that say they're not working out well for some people. So I wanted to know how it was going for those that purchased them for their macs.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac Pro recently purchased that I use for video editing and I have been having a rather serious and very annoying problem. Using Final Cut Pro, I have been rendering a section of video and after a (variable) period of time, my scratch disk (internal SATA - came with the Mac Pro) just unmounts itself, causing FCP to crash out and I lose my render. I can only get the drive to mount again if I restart (or shutdown and start-up again). Is there anyone out there who has knowledge of this problem? I want to ask Apple to look at my machine, but I work at a large institution and the paperwork trail is huge, so it would be a last resort.
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust this AM my G5 slowed down in the middle of a job, I restarted and that was it. Dead HD. I call apple care and took it to the apple store where they suggested I buy and install a new HD.
So, I'm thinking I'll buy a Maxtor 300 MG.
The question(s): The instructions on replacing the drive (from apple support) say to make sure and buy an ATA that is 3.9 wide if adding an internal HD but it doesn't say what to buy when replacing.
Do I buy SATA? If so, will it fit (they're 3.5 wide). Do I need to buy anything else? Will my old G5 have any trouble with the new HD?
