I want to know if there are any third party devices that would allow for HDMI input on my late 08 unibody MacBook Pro. As in, a way to connect like a PS3 or other HD thing into my MBP.

i bought a mini dvi to dvi adapter off ebay. when i plug in my dvi desktop monitor it works fine.
when i plug in my dvi to vga adapter, it does not work on either my vga desktop monitor or my tv. is there setting or something i need to change to make this work?
I have a MacBook bought before 2009 (Model 2,1 with 2GHz IntelCore 2 Duo processor) and I need to get an adapter to connect my MacBook to a SVideo cable to connect to my TV so that I can watch movies I download from Itunes on my MacBook on my TV. My TV only has Composite RCA sockets and SVideo input sockets. What adapter should I buy? Also, have you ever had a problem where the connection is made, but the movie is in black and white on the TV and not in color as it should be?

I've searched hi and low all over my mac mini and can't find an audio input on it anywhere. I've got an audio output socket for a mini jack, but no input.
Is this usual? And if so, does it mean that the mini is still capable of audio input if I use an usb interface?
Basically I want to input some audio from a guitar and mic and wanted to know if this was going to be a possibility.
I have a late 2009 iMac with Firewire 800 input on the back. I have a Western Digital Passport external hard drive with USB Micro-B input that I would like to connect to the Firewire (4 USB inputs aren't nearly enough on the iMac). I can't find an adapter to do this. As an alternative, is there an adapter that will convert the Firewire 800 to standard USB2.0?

I'm going to University next September (hopefully), and I want to be able to play my PS3 on my Macbook display (instead of taking my massive TV).
And I'd also like to be able to connect my freeview box which is a RCA/Scart connection. My PS3 is also RCA/Scart.
I'm looking at getting a MacBook Pro, and hooking it up to my Dell monitor and Logitech speakers when at home. Both the SP/DIF and coax connection on the speakers are free right now, so I need to know what cable I'd have to buy to connect the MacBook Pro to either of these 2 connections? I asked the online chat section of the Apple website, to which they replied they had no such cable, and proceeded to cut me off rather than providing a solution - doesn't exactly fill you with much confidence when buying into a premium product!

I have a samsung dual flip phone, that came with a USB plug to connect my phone to a computer.
When I hook the phone up, my MBP does not recognize it.
What I wanted to know was if there is some kind of way of connecting a phone to a computer via bluetooth, but make the computer think it is connected via USB? Like, if it could have a virtual USB device which comes from the phone via bluetooth. I know it sounds stupid and useless, but my phone's USB connection is broken. I can iSync via Bluetooth but I would like to use software like Salling Media Sync or doubleTwist to transfer and sync music, but neither have a bluetooth option.

Right now the only ones that I have seen (via this forum and on the web) that I can directly connect an Airport Express to are the AudioEngine A5. I believe with these you literally plug the airport express to the back of them, if I understand them correctly.
Is there a list somewhere of speakers that are Airport Express enabled or can others provide alternatives to the AudioEngine A5?

I received the Sony/Google TV as a gift recently; and I was curious to know how I could possibly input my MBP on the TV, since its quite bigger than my 17" MBP. The Sony/Google TV does not have a VGA input and I understand why.. but I thought there might be a cord that could connect my MBP to the Sony/Google TV and keep a high resolution. The Sony/Google TV only has HDMI, USB & colored component INs. Is there any kind of cord available that I can purchase without the picture going into the 480i/p. Excuse the amateurity of this question. I really don't know where to start on what cord (if any) to buy.

I remember reading several postings in early December about people who had been in contact with Apple and in some cases who had been contacted directly by Apple. Have there been any development and new info/feedback from Apple? I went to the Apple Store in Willow bend yesterday and the new 1.6 Rev B they had unpacked had a really bad screen, actually worse than the 1.8 they have had on display since november! I now completely understand when people complain about eye strain when viewing a bad screen. Felt my eyes water after a few minutes. Could be that I stared a lot too but it has never happened to me before. I cant believe they release such a bad screen on their flagship laptop. No way I can justify buying one until they have fixed this. I also noticed the lack of sharpness in text etc. Now I need to go back to Microcenter where I don't remember seeing the lines on a 1.8 they got in right before Christmas to make a comparison. But it really shouldn't be a gamble when ordering a MBA whether you get an acceptable screen or not. Compared to the MBP yesterday the MBA was unacceptable. No money from me to Apple at this point.

In the last week or so, the people with whom I'm chatting can no longer hear me. The video is fine on both ends, and I can hear them, but they can't hear me. I've gone to System Preferences > Sound > Input. Internal Microphone is selected, and from testing it, it appears to be fine. I've tried both Skype and GMail chat, so I don't think it's a software issue.

View 5 Replies View RelatedRecently I've been looking for a way to capture uncompressed HDMI output from a PS3 via my 15" MBP. There are many solutions available, including the Dazzle, the HD PVR and other similar capturing devices, but most of these are limited to standard definition or a high price tag. In doing some research today, I came across a possible solution that I remain skeptical of. It's incredibly cheap and seems to only be missing a software solution.
A company called MOTU develops professional-grade video capturing solutions that are in that special category of price range that require special inquiries. Needless to say, far out of range of a practical solution for a hobbyist. They also sell a product called "HD Express", which is advertised as an HDMI input for an ExpressCard slot that only works with their breakout boxes. That last part doesn't really seem logical if it truly is an HDMI input.
So with a cheap HDMI splitter and an ExpressCard adapter for those of us who opted for the SD card slot on our MBPs, $75 could get you an HDMI input. I guess my question is whether or not this MOTU product is really limited to use with their products or if it would function as a standalone input solution. I know very little of electronics in general, which is why I bought a Mac in the first place.
