OS X :: MacBook Pro Not Turning On
Jan 31, 2010
i'm having a small issue with my computer... Its not turning on
1) If i just press on the power button i just hear the optical drive shifting and then nothing.
2) If i hold down on the power button, the optical drive starts up, the hard drive starts up, the sleep light turns on.. glows a little then faints and nothing.
The screen never turns on in either case and i never hear the start up sound.I had this problem twice already and solved it by reseting the Pram and by trying to turn it on and off a few times ( eventually it just turned on.. ) . But this time i guess that just won't do.

I have an i7 MBP and this morning I discovered that its fan is turning on and off at about 2 second intervals. It only occurs when the lid is closed and (seemingly) when the battery is at full charge (i.e., the mag safe is green). As soon as I open the lid the fan comes on and stays on for 30 seconds or so then shuts off as if the system has cooled. Any ideas what this is about?

I have an external hard drive attached to my MacBook Pro. Today my MacBoor Pro freezed and I had to turn it off pressing and holding the power button. After turning it on the external hard drive didn't appear in desktop. I checked the disk utility that comes with mac and it shows the HD but I can't mount it.

He has a stock white 2.2GHz MacBook, the 2.2GHz SR, with 1GB RAM. Now, recently, he noticed that the green indicator light next to his iSight camera, is always on, even if he just started up his 'Book. If he tries to open Photo Booth, all he gets is not a picture on the Photo Booth window, but in fact, just plain black inside the window, with no error message. Does anyone know what is going on?

My macbook keeps turning itself on and off for no apparent reason. Apparently it's not uncommon as many MacBook owners claim to have it as well.

Every single time I turn on my computer, I usually log on and it works fine. But, for the past two days every-time I turn on my computer, I log in, and then it just stays as the screen saver and nothing comes up. It's just a blank screen with the purplish login screensaver. I have tried to shut it down, restart it, but nothing is working and I am unable to go on my computer..

The battery has been taken out and reinserted. The little LED on the charger will not turn on while it's plugged in but isn't charging. I only have this problem if my Macbook has been running off of the battery for more than 7-8 hours and the battery percentage does not seem to make any difference.

I'm having a regular problem with my MacBook screen. Every time I put it to sleep, when it starts back up again the screen stays blank / black. The way to remedy this issue is to close the lid and open it again immediately. Then the screen comes on and no further problems.
Serial: W8905MCX1AQ
It's a 2008 aluminum 13" MacBook with snow leopard 10.6.4
2Ghz Intel core 2 duo with 4gb of ddr3 RAM.

I've run into a very nasty problem with my macbook (late 2007 normal macbook model I think). Whenever it closes, the monitor goes black. This is normal. What isn't normal is this: whenever I open it and then either start it/awaken it, it gives me the screen... and then the monitor turns the brightness off again! This happens randomly, I have to close and open my screen quite a few times to get it to work-even if I restart the computer. I don't what's causing this, or how to fix it, although I have a hunch that it's the hinge on the back; it started shortly (but not directly) after I replaced my CD drive... I have the tools and instructions needed to open my machine up if it's a fairly simple fix, but I need to know what's going on first.

My isight camera (as indicated by the green light) on the macbook turns on by itself during startup. Funnily enough, no applications are open that utilizes the camera (eg. skype, ichat, photobooth). The only way I can turn it off is by shutting the macbook off and turning it on again. Not even a restart will do, as the green light is still on after a restart.

My macbook, 3 years of age, always turns on whenever I put it into sleep mode. It gets REALLY annoying. So I close the lid, and a few seconds later, you hear the macbook turn on, then a few seconds later, it goes back to sleep mode. This happens endlessly and it gets really annoying.

The only fix I can find for this is to reboot the Macbook Pro and then it will work again for a few minutes before turning itself off.

I have a white macbook (the gen. before the unibody), everything works fine except that sometimes the isight camera turn on by itself. This sometimes happens immediately at the start up and other times when the system is already loaded. The result is the same, the isight camera doesn't work and when i try to use it i get simply a black screen. For to make it works again i need to shutdown the mac and sometimes even to remove the battery. I don't think it can be a Trojan or some virus since i switched to Snow few weeks ago doing a full installation from zero and this trouble still occur even with the new system?

I have a brand new MBA. First week no problems. Now the display doesn't start when I start up the computer. If the display is open as usual, around 110 degrees. If I almost close the display, just enough to get the finger in and start up, the displays lights up. If I then bend it up to approx 110 degrees prior to logging in the display turns black. If I log in when the display is almost closed I can bend the display as I like 100ds of times and the MBA works as usual.

My 15" MBP purchased in August of 2008 does not want to power on anymore. I went to fire it up today for the first time in a week or two and it does not do anything when the power button is pushed. The charger is plugged in and it has the green light. Pushing the battery test button yields no response at all. Any thoughts on troubleshooting or how to proceed from here?

I have an older generation Macbook Pro (the all-silver two-part body style that came out before the current Macbook Pro) that I got approximately two years ago. I do use it quite heavily but have always taken good care of it.
About a week ago, I was using it as normal, then put it into sleep mode and went away from it for an hour. When I came back to it and opened it back up, there was nothing. I tried closing it and re-opening it, still nothing. I did a hard shut-down by pressing the power button until the power light went off, and then restarted it. Even though the computer turned on and the power light lit up, the screen remained black, and the Apple symbol on the lid remained unlit.
I called technical support and they ran me through a list of fixes including holding several keys down and turning on the computer, etc. None of them did anything to the computer as far as I was able to tell. I was not getting any sound, either--whether from having my computer muted or from the computer not working, I'm not sure.
I then tried putting the MBP into Target Disk Mode by connecting it to my sister's MB--no response. Still, the screen remained black on the MBP and no icon for the MBP Disk appeared on the MB. Even though the computer powers up, runs the fan and everything, it appears to be dead for all intents and purposes.
I have two main questions here:
1) What is going on here? Is it as simple as a screen problem, or has my motherboard gone? This is the very first problem I've ever had with my MBP; nothing has led up to this.
2) Is there any chance that my files are safe? I'm currently on vacation and backed up my files prior to leaving, but have done a lot of work since being on the trip and am not too keen to lose what I've done.

I'm a Mac Pro guy and this is my first Mac laptop. How do I make it so nothing happens when I close the lid? Not using external display or anything. Sometimes it's just nice to be able to close the laptop when moving from place to place, I just don't see the need to sleep the machine when I do so. I do this on my Acer laptop all the time.

I have a MacBook Core Duo 2.0 Ghz, 2gb RAM and 60gb HDD Running Leopard 10.5.8. The Bluetooth in the computer keeps disconnecting itself.
I want to know why this is happening and how I can fix it. I have reset the PRAM and the Systems controller and it brought it back for a little bit. The Icon at the top has the bluetooth symbol with an x through it, and it is not in system profiler.

My screensaver keeps turning on very quickly, even when I'm in the middle of using it. I can be typing a sentence in Word and it'll try to go to the screensaver. The screen will go black, but as soon as I type something it goes back to a regular screen. The preferences have the screensaver coming on after 15 minutes. I don't understand what's going on. The only thing I can think of is that I recently installed Air Display which is used to make my ipad an extra monitor, but turning the application off doesn't solve the problem. Also, there's nothing in the preferences for the application about screensavers.

Macbook air, when turning it off, it started to make 3 beep sounds. The fans blow heavily and it keeps on 3 beeps and a pause and the 3 beeps again and again. Some pages say that when it is three beeps it is something with bad blocks, which means something is wrong with the RAM.
1) How can something suddenly go wrong with the RAM just turning it on.
2) How can you fix this yourself?, Instead of going to the Macstore Repair? I tried resetting the PRAM by (by pressing Cmd+Opt(ALT)+R+P) Nothing happens!
3) Saw on another page that it had been an issue for a MBP user and changing or taking out the ramblocks could fix the issue, anyone tried this with Macbook air?

I just received a new Macbook Pro (2012, retina display) and a 27" Thunderbolt display. I am having problems getting the notebook to turn on the display. I called Apple (Monday) and they had me reset the SMC and then the PRAM. After this the monitor was recognized and worked fine for the rest of the evening. However, when I turned things on yesterday evening the monitor would not turn on, and resetting the SMC and PRAM (multiple times) has no effect.
