OS X Mavericks :: Error Message In Terminal Upon Start Up?

Jun 4, 2014

I was installing a few things on my new MacBook Pro (XCode, XQuartz, X11, and Homebrew) when I noticed some funky error message that I get whenever I open Terminal.

It says: -bash: export: `/usr/local/sbin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/opt/X11/bin': not a valid identifier.

I am still getting used to my Mac after a decade of Windows, and I have no clue what this error means or how to fix it.

OS X :: Strange Message While Starting Terminal

Jun 19, 2009

Every time I start Terminal, it says the following before the prompt and after the "last login": "-bash: export: `PATH#': not a valid identifier" It ALWAYS says this. I assume this is symptomatic of a slight behind-the-scenes code issue that I could easily fix if I could figure out what it is.

MacBook Air :: Start Up Disk Full - Deleted Items But Keeps Receiving Message

Apr 17, 2012

My mackbook air keeps telling me that my start up disk is full. I delete items daily but keep receiving the same message. I have found that the problem may be that items are being saved in multiple areas on my computer. I don't know why this is happening and so I don't really know which copies to delete and which to save. It this point I cant even get software updates or compress files since there is not enough space available at this time.

OS X :: Login Server Error Message Every Time I Start My Mac?

Feb 21, 2009

Every time I power up my Mac Pro, I get the attached message upon start-up.

If I click on 'Relaunch' it does nothing.

I have reported it, but nothing has changed.

Clicking on 'ignore' makes it go away, but it reappears every time I power up my CPU.

AppleCare didn't even know what it meant either!

Any suggestions? What is "LOGINserver" anyway?

MacBook Pro :: "Must Restart Your Computer" Message On Start Up?

May 14, 2010

My girlfriend's Macbook gave her the restart computer, kernal panic message earlier today when she tried to open a .tiff file in Photoshop CS3. She did as she was told, however now the computer won't get past the apple logo when we hit the power button. Every time the message comes up. I have had a look around the net and tried the advice I could find, but haven't had any luck.

I have tried resetting pram and the other one. I have also taken out each memory one at a time to see if this makes a difference, but each time the message still appears. She has a 2007 Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard, which we upgraded around a month ago from Tiger. It's got 2gb of ram and I think 2.2Ghz Intel Core Duo Processor.

Feb 7, 2010

Ok so I have an 8800 GS imac, 3.06 intel core 2, 4 gigs ram. Running snow lepord. I need to resolve an issue where I can not get into OSX. At first I got error messeges saying my external HDD could not read, now it looks like its my primary drive because when I restarted I got the progress bar under the apple logo, indicating that something is wrong with the OS. The bar when to full 100% but then I got stuck at never ending spinning wheel. I restarted and no more progress bar but still the spining wheel of death. I really dont mind refomrating its just that I had some important text documents and other files that I cant get back without recoving them some how. How to proceed? I held down cmd v or s (i forgot) on startup and got a black screen with several problem statements. One reads the system boot strapper has crashed trace BPT trap.

Applications :: Unable To Use Terminal / Terminal Stucks At Blank Login Window

Oct 20, 2009

Anybody see this before? I opened up Terminal.app and the window is completely blank. There is nothing in it whatsoever. Looks as if bash never started. The title bar simply says "Terminal — login — 80x24". I can type whatever I want in the Terminal window like it's a text document and nothing happens. If I restart the computer, this seems to fix the problem, but it seems to only be a temporary fix as the issue happens again soon after.

OS X Server :: Processes Started In Terminal End When Terminal Closed?

Jan 29, 2008

I'm running Symantec Backup Agent on our mac osx server. I start the agent in the terminal (./agent.be). It returns a notification that it started the service, however, it doesn't return to the prompt. Closing the terminal gives a warning that the process will be closed if the terminal is closed. Closing it does kill the process. Ctrl+c to return to the prompt also kills the process. So it's as if once the process is started in the terminal, nothing can be altered.

I am not much of a mac guy so please forgive me if this is a stupid question.

Anyone have any advice on how to handle this so the process is ALWAYS running?

OS X :: Unable To Install Terminal App - Run Terminal As Admin?

Aug 19, 2010

I'm on a standard user account and I would really like to install icalbuddy which is a terminal app. When I install apps normally I simply have to provide a admin name and pw, but this doesn't work when it is a terminal app because it requires that the 'su' command be run.

So I thought that I could run terminal as admin through 'su - admin' and then install. But of course the admin account doesn't have access to the user folder where the installer is located. I just can't win.

I do not have a password set on my MBP, but anytime that I have to sudo anything in Terminal it asks for my password. If I just leave it blank like at login, it says the password is incorrect. I have to do is set up a password use it in Terminal then I remove it afterwards. This is very annoying. Is there any way that I can do this without having to set the password every time?
