I have a late 2009 Macbook Pro. It gets extremely hot on the bottom and I am worried there might come a time where it overheats. I don't have the vents blocked, I shut it down consistently, and yet it still gets hot, almost to the point of being uncomfortable to the touch. I have tried looking up info, but am not sure where to go. What should be my next steps?
View 2 RepliesMy Macbook Pro (from mid-2010) has recently started running EXTREMELY slowly, and the fan continuously runs loudly. From other posts, I have checked my activity monitor to see if any process is taking up a lot of the CPU % and have found that nothing seems high, except the kernel_task which, from what I understand, is supposed to be high. I have also attempted to reset the SMC which didn't fix the problem either. I have taken my computer to the genius bar 3 times now, and they keep telling me nothing is wrong (because it works perfectly there), but when I get it home the fan comes back on, and everything runs slowly.

I was recently given a (supposedly) non-functional iBook. I reinstalled Tiger on it, and it did fine through the installation and initial startup. However, everything runs really, really slow. It will work normally for about 5 seconds, and then slow to a crawl. Opening system preferences just took 5 minutes. The beach ball shows up with nearly every click.
Anyone know what this means? Bad ram? Bad HD? It is the 14" 1.42 ghz model with 756 mb ram.
Oh yeah, the reason it was presumed dead was because the previous owner smacked it on something, and the LCD screen is bashed up. The rest of it seems physically fine, but it was subject to some sort of impact.

Today my finder started to run extremely slow at certain points. When I attempt to look in a folder that contains files that are greater than a couple of megabites it can take up to 3 minutes for it to work or show any preview images/icons. I just get the multi-coloured spinning circle. There is no disruption with any of the applications I am running or my internet access, just to the navigation through my files in my finder window. My Software and security updates are up to date and I hadn't recently downloaded any software. I did have to manually disconnect an external hard-drive last night as it wouldn't let me eject it through my finder window, stating the 'volume was in use.'
My Mac Mini is running extremely slow - I get a spinning ball at every move. Ready to throw it out the window.

I have just updated to Lion and now my folders no longer show number of items on the bottom. Is there a fix for this? I allways found that handy. Now I have to click on an icon on the top, This is a backward step if that is now the only way to see the number of items.

I have an iMac running the latest version of Lion (10.7.4) and which I have upgraded to a one terabyte hard drive and full memory capability. I back up to a My Book 2 terabyte external hard drive using Time Machine. My iMac is often very sticky, though I've done most of the diagnostics I know of and preferences etc. are seemingly all OK and fcuk -fs gives a positive result! The Mac is often hard to wake from sleep and in particular seems to spend a lot of time backing up very-very slowly, with the result that it frustratingly seems to be backing up most of the time with the consequent effects on using other programs. Also the whole thing seems to grind to a halt after a hard days work with quite a few applications open. I'm wondering what can be causing this and what I can do to overcome this very frustrating and debilitating problem?

The other day I had an issue with Mac OS, not sure what, but long story short I reinstalled/downgraded to Leopard. I have since installed all the Software Updates and such, but have not upgraded to Snow Leopard. (I'd had alot of issues with it, figured I'd stay downgraded for awhile)
In any case, I was able to download and run Java files no problem on Snow Leopard, but no longer can. It's not a ONE Java file problem.

The iMac is screaming fast except for the Firefox app, the longer I run it the slower my internet is. I have tried disabling the plug-ins as well going to Preferences=>Privacy and setting "Remember my browsing history for at least" to 5 days.
This hasn't really helped. I have confirmed that the DSL is running properly, even had a AT&T tech out to confirm it.
Using OSX 10.9.3 on my iMac. Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. Fairly new iMac, 21.5 inch, Late 2013. Just now, my right click function on my mouse does not work. I have checked my System Preferences and the right click is checked under secondary click. I did uncheck it, exit System Preferences, and then come in again and re-checked it, but that did no good.
I did restart my computer last night before I quit for the day because recently I uninstalled Sophos Anti-Virus because it seemed to be caught in a loop that was not finished "cleaning up" but that is only change I have made. Aside from the Sophos acting wonky there were no other issues with the machine last night.
The right click does not work in all programs, not just Finder. How can I get my right click function to work again?
I find that my MBP has been getting extremely hot, especially around the left side, and the joint where the base is attached to the screen.

I have a 2007 white C2D 2.16 MacBook. Over the last couple of days it has been getting extremely hot, too hot to put on my lap or even touch sometimes. I have iStat pro but have never paid any attention to the temps before so I can't tell how much it has actually risen. Also my power adapter doesn't light up properly. It will go the right colour for a bit and then just go a really faint green that I can just make out if the room light is off. If I unplug it and then plug it back in it comes back on, but only for a few minutes or so. The computer still charges tho. I am out of Apple Care so I don't really know what to do.

I was using my Macbook as usual last night, when some of the programs froze and the laptop started to get extremely hot. I tried to quit out of them but they were unresponsive, and unsure of what to do about it closed the lid and let it sleep and cool off. This morning I have tried to close the programs again with no success, so I hit the power button to restart the laptop. Now it doesn't boot, a folder appears on a gray background with a question mark in it. It wont boot to windows either, just sits on a gray screen. Can anyone help? What do I do? I'm not brilliant with computers, but I don't think I had done anything to crash the laptop. I had upgraded to Snow Leopard earlier on though, and not had any issues until then.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHere's what iStat has to say about my Mid-2007 White MacBook! All I have open is TextEdit, iCal, Preview, Safari, and Firefox. I've been noticing that my computer gets especially hot when I'm using Firefox. Should I worry about it disintegrating from the insides or are these levels of temperature perfectly normal? It's really difficult for me to keep it on my lap if I'm using it for longer than 15 minutes because the bottom of the case gets insanely hot. It's also quite discolored around the edges (sort of a greenish blue) and around where the exhaust is and it's cracked around the edges and where the hinges are around the screen.

I have pretty decent internet at home, both my pc and macbook pro (2007) is fine. But on the MBA, a normal website takes minutes before being completely loaded. I just tested all my computers on speedtest.net, and my mbp was able to get 11.86download and 0.84upload, while my MBA get 0.45download and 0.15upload Is anyone else getting this problem?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just dropped in a WD Scorpio 7200 320GB drive in my mid-2009 mbp. I successfully cloned my previous drive. It took forever to boot the first time and every subsequent time. It takes hours to install the os fresh after wiping it. Not at all how I expected the swap to go. What do you all think? Swap it out for another because this one is a bad egg?
I have done a guid partition and it is formatted in mac os x extended and journaled.
When i boot from my old drive, now in a usb enclosure, everything is fine. However when I access the new internal drive it hangs and just doesn't play well with it at all.
My macbooks charger, its a white macbooks charger, which is the same watts as my unibodies, is getting extremely hot when I use it on my unibody. It never was this hot and IDK why it is like this. It smells like a hot iron when I smell it up close and I'm scared. I'm running vista on my unibody with 2gb ram and I know that vista support is crappy for macs even with boot camp, so it gets hot alot but I don't know why its doing this. My mom is using my unibodies charger for her white macbook.

My MacBook Pro OS X 10.9.4 is getting extremely hot to touch, especially the charger. It becomes hot within about half an hour of turning it on. Within two hours it is too hot and I turn it off. Indoors with AC. I can't remember when I last bought a new battery but my system report says the health condition is ok.

Not sure if I am imagining this or I messed up something but when I go to a site to attach a file, whether it be tiny pic or gmail, when I do the icon view, the icons are extremely big. Not sure if there was a choice of shrinking them so I am wondering if anyone could check their comp for me. The option I am talking about is like when you open the finder, in the bottom right corner you have that slider that lets you adjust the size of the icons.

It has only been doing this for the last couple of days. Before that flash games were fine, no lag at all. But recently they lag even when I've just started playing. Right from square one.

After plugging ethernet in to it, it's going as fast as DSL should be.. 10-15x faster than it is over wireless. I understand that wired is always a little faster, but the difference shouldn't be this drastic. What should I do?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a late 2007 macbook pro and recently the fans have been going at extremely high speeds without the MBP being hot at all. I have SMCFanControl and iStat Pro and both of them said my MBP's temperature was around 55C though the fans were going between 4000 and 6000 RPM, I also checked the activity monitor for high CPU usage but nothing high there. I turned my MBP off for 5 minutes with a fan blowing on it just incase it was hot but when I turned it back on the fans immediately jumped back up to 6000 RPM. They're back to normal now but I assume it will happen again. Anyone know what's wrong?
