MacBook Pro :: Running Extremely Slowly And Fan Continuously Running Loudly?
Jun 4, 2014My Macbook Pro (from mid-2010) has recently started running EXTREMELY slowly, and the fan continuously runs loudly. From other posts, I have checked my activity monitor to see if any process is taking up a lot of the CPU % and have found that nothing seems high, except the kernel_task which, from what I understand, is supposed to be high. I have also attempted to reset the SMC which didn't fix the problem either. I have taken my computer to the genius bar 3 times now, and they keep telling me nothing is wrong (because it works perfectly there), but when I get it home the fan comes back on, and everything runs slowly.

Jan 6, 2009I get the whole part about that I set my laptop to go to sleep in 5 minutes, and if I close the lid it'll go to sleep, and the little light at the bottom starts to pulse, etc. But in sleep mode, my battery seems to drain extremely fast!
For my old Gateway M275 laptop while in sleep mode, it would probably lose about 5-7% of it's battery in a day's duration. With my MacBook Air, I just came back to it tonight after a day's worth of sleeping, and my battery was down to 16% from 29%. And to check, it was indeed sleeping!

Jun 24, 2014I have a late 2009 Macbook Pro. It gets extremely hot on the bottom and I am worried there might come a time where it overheats. I don't have the vents blocked, I shut it down consistently, and yet it still gets hot, almost to the point of being uncomfortable to the touch. I have tried looking up info, but am not sure where to go. What should be my next steps?

Mar 11, 2010So I have a late 2008 MBP and the battery is draining way faster than it should. Coconut battery says that my battery capacity is at 93% and it only has 73 cycles but the battery has only been lasting 3 hours at best with a full charge, but most typically, it only lasts 2 hours while using the 9400m GPU and at idle. I have reset the battery per apple's instructions 2 times now and I have reset the SMC multiple times. this is what the system profiler says about my power capacity and consumption:

PowerPC :: IBook Running Extremely Slow?
Nov 13, 2007I was recently given a (supposedly) non-functional iBook. I reinstalled Tiger on it, and it did fine through the installation and initial startup. However, everything runs really, really slow. It will work normally for about 5 seconds, and then slow to a crawl. Opening system preferences just took 5 minutes. The beach ball shows up with nearly every click.
Anyone know what this means? Bad ram? Bad HD? It is the 14" 1.42 ghz model with 756 mb ram.
Oh yeah, the reason it was presumed dead was because the previous owner smacked it on something, and the LCD screen is bashed up. The rest of it seems physically fine, but it was subject to some sort of impact.
Software :: Finder Running Extremely Slow At Certain Points
Feb 14, 2009I am using a MacBook Pro which has the following:
Processor - 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory - 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Mac OS X - Version 10.4.11
Today my finder started to run extremely slow at certain points. When I attempt to look in a folder that contains files that are greater than a couple of megabites it can take up to 3 minutes for it to work or show any preview images/icons. I just get the multi-coloured spinning circle. There is no disruption with any of the applications I am running or my internet access, just to the navigation through my files in my finder window. My Software and security updates are up to date and I hadn't recently downloaded any software. I did have to manually disconnect an external hard-drive last night as it wouldn't let me eject it through my finder window, stating the 'volume was in use.'

Jun 18, 2010I just turned on my 13" MBP and got this message. Apparently, this is supposed to come up when there is only like 5% charge left. My battery indicator at the top of the screen said there was 22% charge left. Also, according to IStat, my battery's health has already dropped down to 97% after only about 2 weeks and 5 cycles. Is this normal? I'm going to try recallibrating my battery by fully charging it and then letting it fully drain. Is there a good chance that this solves this problem?

Jul 2, 2012I have an iMac running the latest version of Lion (10.7.4) and which I have upgraded to a one terabyte hard drive and full memory capability. I back up to a My Book 2 terabyte external hard drive using Time Machine. My iMac is often very sticky, though I've done most of the diagnostics I know of and preferences etc. are seemingly all OK and fcuk -fs gives a positive result! The Mac is often hard to wake from sleep and in particular seems to spend a lot of time backing up very-very slowly, with the result that it frustratingly seems to be backing up most of the time with the consequent effects on using other programs. Also the whole thing seems to grind to a halt after a hard days work with quite a few applications open. I'm wondering what can be causing this and what I can do to overcome this very frustrating and debilitating problem?

Sep 5, 2014The battery icon on my macbook pro has a 'X' on top of it. The machine turns off as soon as i remove the power cable from the mac. It turns on only when i remove the battery and again put it back on. Once i do this, the battery shows 100%. After i leave it connected to the power for an hour or so, the 'X' appears again!! My macbook is not under warranty.
Its a 15 inch, Late 2008 model running on OS X 10.9.4.

Dec 2, 2010I have a late 2007 MBP 15inch 2.33Ghz Core 2 Duo. I have had since new and no problems. Over this last week I have had the same issue a couple of times. The MBP just switches itself off. The first time it did it, it was running on battery (I was using Aperture) and had 60% power available. It would refuse to re-start until I connected it to the mains and then it ran fine.
Then it did the same thing overnight at some point. I had left it connected to the mains (as I always do at home), had shut the lid to put it into sleep mode. When I came back it was switched off. No-one had touched it whilst I was away but yet it had just turned itself off.The only thing that I noticed was that when I started it up both times the little light on the magsafe connecter kept flashing between orange and green. However when the computer booted into OS X both times it showed a reasonable amount of power in the battery.

Oct 27, 2009if I'm going to be running windows 7 through bootcamp almost full time.. would it better to get the 15" with 9400m only since the other models I've heard default to 9600 under windows. I don't play games and want to have good battery life while using windows.. so does the 15" w/ 9400m only seem like the better option for this?

When the MagSafe Adapter is plugged in, it shows that the battery is charging, but when the MagSafe Adapter is unplugged from the computer, the computer does not recognize that it is running on battery power. (It still shows that it is running on A/C power.) I have already reset the System Management Controller, and it didn't work. What else can I do?

May 8, 2012I have a Lion-native early 2011 13-inch MacBook Pro aluminum unibody running 10.7.3.I was using it an hour and a half ago.I closed the lid, and when I came back to it an hour later, the battery had died.Plugging in to a charger did not wake it.I force shut it down by holding command+option+control+shift and the power button.Now, when I turn it on, I see the white screen for a half second, then it fades to black.The indicator light stays on and solid (not pulsating).I have tried:
- Resetting the PMU
- Resetting the PRAM (white screen for half second, then fades to black, each time)
- Booting to Single User (white, then fades to black)
- Booting to Recovery Mode (white, then fades to black)
I have tried to provide all the pertinent details as well as what I have tried.Please let me know if you need more information.

May 20, 2012Earlier today, maybe around 3PM, I was using my laptop, and it was charging and it was maybe around 60% battety life when out of no where it just shut off and even the light on my charger went out. When I turned it back on, the fan was running and there was an X over the battery icon. I've tried turning it off and on, and leaving it alone for a few hours, to see if it would resolve the problem but it didn't. Â It is currently 9:52PM, I'm still experiencing these problems and I'm using the exact laptop to type this, but I don't know how much battery life is left.Â
