Jul 31, 2009 I have a HP All-In-One C5180 printer, scanner, copier, card reader.Every-time there is a MacOSX update then the scanner no longer responds.I have it connected to my AirPort Extreme wired ethernet, and I access it wirelessly; and also I have tried connecting it directly to my MacBook Pro via wired ethernet also.I don't have a USB cable, and don't want to go that routeIt had worked fine for some time, and like I wrote after some software update it doesn't respond.
I am tired of uninstalling and reinstalling the HP software, in the past it worked to fix the problem, but nowadays this "fix" isn't working for me.What i would like to explore now is if there is a way I can use the scanner with another software, preferably a free one.

Feb 1, 2009I just got iWork 09, and while I am loving it, there is one feature that I greatly miss and use a good deal of the time. I NEED an equation editor. I really don't care if I have to export to an image, but I need something that will let me put equaitons in iWork. It also must be free, because I blew what money I had left on iWork, Airport Extreme, and an iPod case (yes I know, I went crazy at the Apple store). I only have about $20 left, and I am saving that to upgrade my RAM at some point. if you could please suggest something, I WILL try it. For now I will be using the equation editor from Openoffice 3.0 to do my equations, but that is hopefully only temporary.

May 19, 2010At its annual I/O conference, Google has unveiled its plan to release a video codec it acquired as a royalty free alternative to the ISO MPEG's H.264. Google was joined by Mozilla and Opera as browser vendors that would be including support for the new codec, dubbed WebM. Mozilla's Firefox currently does not support H.264 because doing so would require purchasing a license from the ISO.WebM is, as the name suggests, targeted at the web and not intended to replace H.264 across the board. As such, the project can be focused on a narrower set of engineering goals. WebM also supports HTML5 delivery of web video, as unlike H.264, it can be used to deliver web-based videos to any modern web browser, not just the commercial products of large companies like Apple's Safari, Google's Chrome, and Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

Jun 25, 2010I finally got IPartition, and I have the Corolis CDMaker. But when I try to burn, it says there isn't enough space. When I look closer, I see that I will need 2315 MB of space on my CD to burn it. I'm on an Emac without a DVD burner. This is basically a slap to the face. Is something wrong? How can iPartition, which is around 19MB big, require that much space on a CD to burn? Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I understand I'm supposed to drag the program to Corolis CDMaker, then hit Burn. Btw, I'm on OSX Tiger.

May 19, 2008OK I know most reviews say the SSD is not worth the extra money.
But, when I worked on my friends SSD I must say it just feels faster in normal use. I also know this from my previous laptop where I had SSD.
So I'd like to know:
are there SSD's out there that we can buy and install ourselves?
Which ones and how much do they cost?
I believe it needs to be 1,8 inch with Ziff connection... right?

Oct 28, 2010this will be my first mac - and i need some advice on applecare
my friend has kindly bought a MBA from hong kong on my behalf and i'll get it later this week (can't wait!). what i need to decide is if i should purchase some sort of 'insurance cover' for this MBA.
applecare is the obvious choice. however, �199 for the 2 additional years seem quite pricey. although i have links with my university, i believe i won't be able to get the educational price (�47) given the MBA was purchased from the HK online store.
do you think the �199 applecare will be important or are there 3rd party insurance covers out there i can consider?

It's kind of annoying to not be able to just hit a button to get to the end or beginning of a line while typing. Nothing major, but it would help if I knew where it was if there is one. Sep 29, 2009I wanted to see if there were any alternatives to the $100 superdrive that seems pretty fragile and some people suggested this Fastmac [URL] for $110, which can ready Bluray discs.
I did a little diging on this forum and found this tread [URL], which basically says it's a Panasonic (Matshita) UJ-120 drive in an external enclosure and an IDE-to-USB bridge.
Then I went on eBay to see if they sell the UJ-120 and found this seller ([URL]) selling it for $80.
I took the plunge and bought it, and it works fine. When I plugged it in, nothing happen, but when I inserted a DVD it played it and when I inserted a blank disk, it let me burn it with itunes.
Anyway I just wanted to let everyone know that this is a great alternative for $80. I haven't tried the bluray yet, but I got what I wanted.

Mar 25, 2010I'd discuss this with those of you looking at a Sony Z series, Sony F series, etc when looking at MacBook Pro alternatives since it looks like Apple will never release a computer with a new processor again. I grew tired of the wait, and purchased a Sony F series, you have probably seen (and have been annoyed by) my comments about the experience. It's been great, that quadcore i7 blows through my daily paces of photoshop, programming projects, games, etc. The battery life isn't so bad either, easily besting my PowerBook G4 (I had a MacBook, that.. was much better though).Build quality seemed good. Initially. It is more physically solid than say, a MacBook. However, this is only superficial.

May 31, 2012I came from the MS Windows PC. I love everything about the Macbook Air and the Apple OS; however, I get used to the Delete, End, and Home buttons. Is there a way on the Apple keyboard that I can simulate these functions? With these buttons, I can easily move to the end or start of a sentence for word process editing. I can delete from the right side of the sentence instead of using the arrow on the Apple keyboard to move it to the right and then use the Delete (which is really a Backspace key) to delete the word.
