Epson's website says check your Mac software updates and doesn't offer to download the driver directly. But there are no available updates for my computer as of now. OS X V10.7 Lion :: Install Gutenprint Drivers For Epson Stylus Color 440?
Apr 20, 2012I have and old and useful printer -Epson Stylus Color 440- and just bougth a cable for connecting it to USB port. Add a new print on its Print and Scan Preference Panel and it was recognized inmediatly, but I was told there was not any driver to that printer.
Tried to set "Epson Stylus Color Series" on its driver but when I went to print, printer seemed to work but does not eject any ink. It seemed as if I were ran out of ink; its car moved over the places occupied by the photo and sounded as normal printing, but not a drop of ink. I checked on an older windows pc, and ink is full, printed normally. I also looked for its drivers on Epson pages, but it seems there are only available for previos Mac OSs, not for X.
A son told me that in his Snow Leopard MacBook White there's a dirver called "Epson Stylus Color 440 gutenprint" on his Print and Scan Driver Menu; haven't tried to print from his MacBook yet, and as I searched, those are open drivers.
I wonder if I can download and install that "Epson Stylus Color 440 gutenprint" from the web, of if there's a way to copy it from my son's Macbook, when he comes and check.

Sep 9, 2014I'm trying to dual boot my Macbook Pro (2010) with Windows 7 to run some software that is not Mac compatible. I have encountered one problem after the next, but most recently, my disc drive has stopped reading discs. I had originally gone from Mountain Lion to Mavericks as an upgrade, and my disc drive worked fine - but due to an issue with the Windows 7 installation, I had to completely wipe my computer and start fresh - booting Mavericks from the Cloud directly. This appears to have knocked out my disc drive and try as I might, my computer will not only refuse to read external optical drives, but it will accept discs, not read them, and repeatedly spit them out a few seconds later.
I was looking for a solution - and I'm not sure exactly which route to take. I could downgrade to Mountain Lion and hopefully restore the functionality of my disc drive to install Windows 7 and upgrade my OS after the fact OR I could find a way to repair my disc drive. The issue is most definitely software and not hardware.
Ideally, I'll walk away from this with a partitioned MacBook Pro with both Windows 7 and Mavericks installed. I don't even necessarily need my disc drive to work once Windows 7 is installed.

Sep 4, 2014I have a MBP 13" early 2013 / Mountain Lion 10.8.2...A while ago I got a spinning wheel right after starting my mac. I contacted Apple since my mac was still under warranty, and after further diagnosis, they told me that I have to replace the HD, so they mail me a new HD.
I connected the new HD on a USB cable to format and re-partition it using Disk utility (At this point, DU was able to see the HD on a USB connection). After partitioning, I removed my Mac cover to replace my HDs. I booted using a Mountain Lion USB drive, but the installer couldn't find the new HD, just the recovery partition. I bought a new HD from Amazon, same result, my mac can start with teh old HD. Also, the disk utility can read the new HDs if they are on a usb connection, but it cant read them if they are on a SMART connection !

Jun 26, 2014In My Suitcase 5, I can see a list of OSX System Fonts > Local, (such as Calibri, Calisto MT, etc.). I realized I cannot locate these fonts anywhere on the HD. I see them in Suitcase and they load, but the physical files are nowhere to be found. I did a search in Finder for Calibri — nothing, like it doesn't exist. I went to all 3 common system fonts folders — nothing. I went to Users / Library/ Fonts — nothing.
Where are these fonts, really?

Jun 24, 2008I have an iMac G5 (Power PC) with OS X version 10.4.11. I also have an Epson Stylus Color 1160 printer and an Epson Stylus Pro 3800 printer. Last August I lost access to the Utilities in my 1160 driver meaning that I could not make nozzle checks or cleans. I was emailed a lengthy procedure from Epson that would overcome the problem. Expecting this to take some time, I delayed following the advice until yesterday. Apart from the inaccessible Utilities for the 1160, both drivers were working OK. As instructed by Epson, I removed both printer drivers and first reinstalled the 1160 driver but my Printer Setup Utility could not find it. After several fruitless e-Talk sessions with Epson I contacted Apple. They told me that I had been doing everything correctly but they discovered (through Google) that the driver for the 1160 does not work with OS 10.4.11. Knowing that I had been able to use an Epson driver before I discovered through Google that a later version was available on the American Epson site. I downloaded this and the 1160 worked fine with access to the Utilities as I needed. I then reinstalled the 3800 driver but when I attempted to use it from Photoshop it did not give me the Print Settings and Color Management options that I need. I still have these options with the 1160. I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this problem and now I have even lost the access to the 1160 Utilities again. I have run the Disk Utility First Aid many times. It shows an ever-increasing list of Permissions (all problems related to Epson) but although it 'repairs' them when I verify again they are still there. I seem to be creating more problems rather than solving them.

Hardware :: Connecting Old Epson Scanner With Updated Drivers
Jul 20, 2010I reattached my Epson Perfection 1650 Photo scanner to my Mac G4 (Sawtooth) desktop today after updating the drivers and all to OS 10.4, which is what is on my computer. (The updated drivers also work for 10.5, which is on my laptop, but that doesn't matter here.) When I hit the Smart Panel icon on the desktop, the computer went to Classic mode, for some reason, even though the updated software is for OS X. I was able to get a Twain window, but when I clicked on any of the options for scanning, I get a message saying that the scanner is not recognized (something about a bus). I looked at all the available FAQs at the Epson Web site, but they are not helpful or relevant. For example, one told me to turn off Scan Monitor in Extensions, but of course, there is no Extensions Folder in OS X. One other FAQ suggested reinstalling the software that came with the scanner, but that was way back when I used OS 9.2.2, so how could I then bring it up to 10.4?
Most of the other FAQs were for people with Windows, so of course, those didn't help at all. The Ready light is on; all the cables are plugged in properly. I'm ready, willing, and able. I can't get Epson support, because the scanner is out of warranty, and the Epson online helpers (private) want a good deal of money to provide an answer. Granted, I don't have to pay them unless I am not satisfied with the answer, but I'd rather not have to sell the farm, when I could get a new scanner for only about twice what they are asking to give me an answer. OR (breathlessly hoping) if I can get some ideas here. I have a lot of pages to copy and send to someone, and now I'll have to copy them manually at the local store or across town, at my mother's, and then send them through the mail. It all seemed so straightforward and simple: scan and send to the eager recipient.

Sep 7, 2014My son's school wipes the hard drive of their computers every year when they upgrade. I made a copy of my son's entire hard drive (10.8) before turning the MacBook Pro in to be "updated" (wiped and everything replaced with 10.9.4). Now my son has told me he made Notes he needs. what files do I need to replace from the backed up version of his system? I need to know how to locate the old files that I can not access by holding the option and going to the library etc because the old system files are on an external hard drive, not an active older mac.
I assume there is more than one file. We have not made any new Notes, so I'm OK to completely overwrite the new notes files with the ones from the older version. if there is any way to simply open the notes so I can copy and paste into Word, that would be fine too.

I really need to use the FCP iChat Theater feature, as I need to do some long distance editing. The startup disk works just fine, I checked it on another computer, but when I restart my Mavericks mac and choose it as the boot drive, I just get a grey screen with the universal "no"symbol (circle with a slash through it).

OS X Mavericks :: Dual Boot With Mountain Lion And Migration Assistant
Jun 6, 2014I have a Macbook Pro Retina which cam with Mountain Lion installed, and I want to upgrade to Mavericks. However, I have a need to run some apps in Mountain Lion, as official support for those apps will not go past 10.8.5 (Avid's Pro Tools 10) and I need to be able to open archived projects.
I also wish to clean install both operating systems fresh, and do a stripped ML partition, with bare bones essentials, on the smallest partion possible. Mavericks will be the main system, and ML won't host user data, only the legacy apps. I am fine with erasing my 500GB SSD.
My current process is to install ML from the recovery partition, and use disk utility to partition before I do, then install Mavericks from a bootable USB (already made).
So my questions are these:
For ML:
1. What size partition is the minimum necessary to install ML, plus the apps and run without hitch? The legacy apps will take maybe 4GB.I want this as small as possible.
2. When I do a fresh install of ML, what apps can safely be deleted without affecting the system?
For Mavericks:
When migrating my old user account to Mavericks, I don't wish to migrate the apps, just the user settings and the data. I will make an entire backup of the user directory on a separate drive before I start this process, as well as a Time Machine backup. I then plan to migrate the account settings and data, but manually reinstall the extra apps. The reason for this is I have a lot of third party apps, and some are trials I decided to uninstall, and they all leave junk behind.
3. If I import the user account settings and data only, what cruft or orphaned files should I be aware of?
4. Are there options to cherry pick the settings that are migrated?
5. If I manually copy, for example, the mail folder, iCal or messages folder in my user library, and place it into the appropriate user folder in the new account in a worst case scenario, will there be any drama I should be aware of?
Lastly, a question of Apple ID's/iCloud:
6. Before doing this process, should I deauthorise my iTunes account, or will that be fine when migrated anyway?
7. What will happen with my iPhone when I sync to a fresh install on mavericks, will it attempt to wipe my iPhone, or is that part of the user data that is migrated?
