Oct 21, 2009I have an aluminum Macbook Unibody 13" that I just picked up off craigslist and was wondering if anyone new what I can expand the memory to. It has 2 GB Ram in it right now, and it is the 2.4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 250 GB Hard Drive. Also I am trying to download apple wallpapers for it, but when I set it as my wallpaper it doesn't look as clear on my background as it does in the preview, even when I copy and set the one with higher resolution. I must be doing something wrong, if you don't mind could someone take me through the steps of how to properly download and apply wallpapers, as your background?

MacBook Pro :: Higher Resolution Screen Matters?
Feb 3, 2010Given that the computer scales images to fit the resolution of the screen. Why does having a higher resolution screen matter? I mean I can play 1080p video on a 13 inch MBP and it still looks good. Why do people complain so much about how intolerable the low screen resolution is on the MBPs. Apple must have some kind of magic because images and video look great to me. Take a 13 inch MBP, would the same 1440x900 sized picture look that much better if the native resolution was 1440x900? If the quality loss is so noticeable how has Apple been able to get away with shipping the product?

Apr 25, 2012I downloaded GTA San Andreas from the App Store. The game works fine. Only thing is I cannot seem to get the resolution to go higher than 800 x 600 x 32. Is there a reason for this? I am using a fairly new Macbook Pro with OS X Lion 10.7.3. with a 2.66Ghz Intel Core i7 processor. 8 GB ram. I am also using the higher resolution screen 1680 x 1050. However, when I go to the advanced game settings I cannot seem to make any changes to the resolution?

Feb 3, 2012I just installed the 10.7.3? My "old" MacBook is a late 2008, 2.4Mhz, 8GbRAM. After instaling the new Lion, my 2nd monitor stopped working, so, before rushing after hardware problems, I connected it to my new MB (Pro 15" early 2011, 2.2Mhz, 16GbRAM) and it worked normally. So, back to the old one, I tried many drivers, etcs... after some time, I noted that the external monitor flicked many times with the "normal" image and turned black... I changed the 2nd monitor's resolution and it worked stable, so, now I can only use 1280X1024 instead of 1680X1050...

Apr 23, 2009After booting to windows xp pro(sp2) via bootcamp the resolution setting slide bar on Nvidia control panel lets me adjust to a higher rez, but does not change the resolution physically at all. I do get the windows "keep this setting" pop up..I choose yes to humor it, but nothing changed in the first place.Other than this glitch, windows works fine. I can set the resolution to 1900 x 1200 for gaming inside the game's application but this huge 640 x 480 is hard to deal with on my 2.93GHz 17" unibody macbook pro display.

Aug 13, 2010I'm thinking about updating my Macbook Pro C2D 15'', which is already 3 years old. I'm planning to get the 27'' Apple Cinema Display (finally!) when it come out later next month. I've decided that I'd go with 15'' Core i7 Macbook Pro, but couldn't make up my mind on the screen resolution; Standard 1440x900 or Hi-Res 1680x1050.The thing that really bugs me that the pixel-per-inch (PPI) of the MBP and ACD. The ACD 27'' has 108.79 PPI, with relatively close to 110.27 PPI on STD MBP, while the High-Res MBP will give me 128.65 PPI. This would mean that the text on the High-Res MBP screen would be a bit smaller.So, my question would be for the person who're using current ACD (24'' ?) with Hi-Res 15'' MBP or 17'' MBP (which has 113.xx PPI):1. Does the difference in text size seems noticeable when you switching from one screen to another?

I could see the display brightness meter changing, but the brightness did not. Restarting didn't help. Called Apple and they're going to replace the computer. Has this happened to anybody else? Note: I have the hi-res anti-glare display.

Jul 14, 2010I know I'll never be able to achieve 8-9 hours, but I was hoping for at least 7 or thereabouts. Unfortunately, I only managed a paltry 5 hours on my first two 'complete' discharges. This is with airport and bluetooth on, screen at half brightness and running windows 7 in parallels in addition to the usual browser/office stuff. Is there something I can do to improve battery life? Or is having parallels running all the time draining the battery extra fast? Also, is there some sort of battery monitoring utility that can accurately detect what exactly the battery is doing? I find the default one to be somewhat sparse in terms of details.

Aug 14, 2009I own 23 and 30" Cinema Displays. I like the 23 because everything is larger and easier to read than in the 30". I mostly work in Logic and love that I see lots of things on the 30" but the 23" is much easier on my eyes.Is there such a thing as a display with 2560x1600 (like the 30" Apple) but that is LARGER than a 30 inch so I can see everything bigger in Logic??? Maybe a 34 or 37"? Did a search but haven't come up with anything other than other 30" displays.

Apr 26, 2010I have set my display to sleep even when plugged in and when it is idle for only one minute. The screensaver is set for 5 minutes (after the display sleeps!), but the screensaver always comes on. I can leave my MBP on all night and the screensaver will run all night.This issue is sometimes fixed by a reboot, but then it comes back shortly thereafter. E.g. when I went to bed last night, the screen would sleep. When I left this morning, the screen did not sleep. I only used the computer for ten minutes in between.

Mar 29, 2012I'm using a MBA connected to a 52" TV with a 1920X1080 resolution when I teach. I often turn mirroring on and off depending on what I'm teaching and what program I'm using. When I turn mirroring on it defaults to a 1400X1050 resolution and I have to manually go into display settings and change it to the higher resolution. Is there a way to set the default settings so that it will always default to 1920X1080?

Apr 26, 2012I am trying to use external display with my Unibody Aluminium Macbook Pro (NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, 2.26Gh, snow leopard). Cable setting I use is quite complicated as it is: macbook: minidisplay port>hdmi> DVI D : display. Display is LG Flatron W2242T (4:3).So I hooked everything up and macbook detected display without any problem. The problem arises when it comes to resolution. Maximum resolution I can set (and in fact the only except 800xsomething) is 1152x870 and not only it is to low, but also it does not respect 4:3 ratio so it looks quite bad. So bad, that i cant really work on a setup like that. When I try to change resolution to any other, Display goes black. I tried using some apps, but they dont really work.

It seems it has gone to lower resolution and the desktop doesn't fit on the screen anymore. I have to drag the mouse to the edges of the screen to see the parts that are hidden. I tried SMC reset, PRAM reset and it didn't fixed it.

MacBook Air :: 24 Inch LED Cinema Display - Can't Change Resolution
Nov 2, 2010I just got the latest 13" Macbook Air and hooked it up to my Apple 24 inch LED Cinema Display. It works great but I've noticed that the resolution is not the same as when I had my 2008 Unibody Macbook attached to it. Everything is bigger (i.e. lower resolution) when the MBA is connected. I went into Display Preferences and changed it to the highest resolution but it didn't change. It's not that big a deal, but I thought I'd ask and see if anyone had any suggestions on how to get better resolution on the cinema display. Or is it not possible with the new MBA connected?
