MacBook Pro :: Doesn't Always Go To Sleep When Closing

Jun 10, 2012

When closing the lid the Pro doesn't go to sleep on random occasions. This just became a problem. I can plug and unplug the power and it goes to sleep. The sleep mode will also put it to sleep. What can I do?

MacBook Pro :: Doesn't Sleep When Closing The Lid

Aug 16, 2009

I bought a MBP this February. For some reason, it won't go to sleep if I close the lid -- I have to manually go to the apple menu and press sleep. Any ideas? I tried a clean install, still no luck.

MacBook Pro :: Stop From Going To Sleep When Closing The Lid

Apr 15, 2012

I have an old MBP laying around that is not worth selling due to a number of little issues it has. However, it still functions just fine and, I think, would make an excelent server. However, there is one small issue: If I close the lid, it will go to sleep.

I've tried using a few different apps, InsomniaX and Caffiene being two of the more popular ones, but so far nothing seems to take. I know I can do this with the use of an external monitor or mouse, but I don't want to have to keep a mouse plugged in simply so my server can run and I don't have, or want, to set up a monitor for it.

how I can make my MBP behave as I'd like?

MacBook Air :: Closing The Lid To Sleep Makes Air Panic And Shut Down?

Apr 24, 2010

I have a first gen MBA 1.6, and recently (like two days ago) every time I close the lid it shuts down. It doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen more times than it doesn't. Booting it up after, a window tells me a kernel problem has occurred.

Sorry, no real knowledge of the underpinnings of how software works - so if any of you have ever experienced this, or have some tips or diagnoses, I will certainly be thankful for it.

MacBook :: System Going Deep Sleep Automatically / Sleeps On Closing Laptop

Aug 23, 2009

So one day I activated deep sleep from this widget like I always do when I want to keep my 100% charge and i'm traveling with my macbook and keep my stuff saved.

It didn't work. So I kept clicking. clicking. clicking. Nothing.

So I slept my mac, and woke it again and it worked.

However when I went to wake it, I just got a grey screen. I held down the power button to cold boot, and when I rebooted it booted from the RAM file like it would normally when waking from deep sleep.

But now every-time I close the laptop it goes into deep sleep.

MacBook Pro :: Sleep Light Doesn't Blink When MBP Left To Sleep?

Oct 10, 2009

I set the MBP to sleep in 10 min through the Energy Saver pref with the option to sleep the hdds. When it's about to sleep the screen dims, then turns black, then the sleep light comes on but does not blink no matter how long I leave it. The blinking only happens when I close the lid or when I select the Sleep option under the Apple logo. Is that normal behavior?

MacBook Pro :: It Doesn't Wake Up From Sleep?

Jun 26, 2012

It's been a while now that my mac pro 13" (july 2011 version with lion) either doesn't wake up from sleep (or appears so because the screen stays turned off) or it does but when asked to log back in, I type the password and press enter, and the colored wheel shows up and stops responding...not even gets to log in. I have to hard reset with the power button.

OS X Mavericks :: Sometimes MacBook Pro Doesn't Go To Sleep

Sep 2, 2014

After I upgraded my macbook pro mid 2012 to OS Mavericks, when I shut the lid, it sometimes won't go to sleep. I don't realise it until I take it out to use it again. When open the lid, the screen will be black and won't light up like it would if it had gone to sleep, the light that usually blinks when the computer is on sleep mode is continually on - not blinking, my computer would be hot and I can hear the fan. I've ended up having to force shut the computer down way too many times. After I switch on my computer again, I would find my battery drained as though I had been using it while it should have been asleep.

It hasn't happened when I go into the Apple menu and select 'sleep', but then again, I hardly ever do that. having to force shut it down too often, as there are other problems that have arisen after OS Mavericks update that also need force shutting down, and apparently force shutting down computers is bad for the RAM.

MacBook :: White Doesn't Wake From Sleep

Apr 6, 2009

I've heard that Macbook Pro's have this issue, but it seems like my white Macbook is exhibiting this sometimes. It's not a lot but I've encountered it about 3-5 times now. When I just close the lid, the little white light at the front should glow and unglow. It seems like the light stayed lit so when I open the lid the screen wouldn't turn on and there is no response and I would be forced to cold boot. My Macbook is up to date, with no problem in diagnostic.

MacBook Pro :: Firefox Doesn't Work After Sleep?

May 16, 2010

I've been loving every minute of my new 17" i7 MBP except for one thing. After waking my computer from sleep, the Firefox browser doesn't work correctly. I can see the window, with all my tabs, but nothing is clickable except for the menus at the top. I have to restart the browser in order to get it to work. It's not the biggest pain in the arse, but I'd like to pop open the computer and start browsing instantly. Any thought as to what may be causing this or what I can do to fix it?

MacBook Air :: HP 2711x Doesn't Return From Sleep

Mar 8, 2012

I'm a recent convert to a MacBook Air 13" Mid 2011 (running Mac OS X 10.7.3) in which I have connected to a HP 2711x monitor via the the Thunderbolt port using a DP to DVI adaptor connected to a DVI cable ultimately plugged into the DVI source on the monitor.  In run my configure with both the MacBook's screen and the monitor running, extending my desktop not mirroring.

While everything works on "first run", for example connecting the laptop at the beginning of the day, at some point when the MacBook Air sleeps or (potentially) the HP monitor, when either are woken, the monitor no longer senses a DVI source.  The MacBook still believes there is a second display. But, the HP monitor goes back to sleep. Turn the power off and back on to the monitor doesn't fix the problem.  The only fix is to pull the power cord on the monitor and plug it back in, and it immediately goes back to normal.

I've tried shutting off the "Auto-Switch Source" feature on the monitor and have set the default source to DVI.  We even tried using a different setup via HDMI, and the same problem occurred.

MacBook Pro :: Doesn't Wake From Sleep After Few Hours

Aug 24, 2014

I have brand new, mostly untouched, 13" rMBP running Mavericks (10.9.4) that crashes during sleep. If I close the lid and leave it for more than a few hours, I have to do a force shut down by holding the power button for a few seconds and turn it back on again.

I've already followed the advice of this article: OS X: When your Mac doesn't sleep or wake and have called Apple Support, who did nothing but read the article to me.

I have:

- reset the System Management Controller
- restored all defaults in Energy Saver preferences
- booted into Safe Mode to verify disk (unsure of whether or not this was effective at all)

In my Console, I am getting a line that says "com.apple.message.signature: Platform Failure"

According to this other thread - MB can't wake up from sleep anymore - it seems like it might be a hardware failure.

MacBook Pro :: External Display - Monitor Doesn't Sleep Properly

Jun 25, 2012

Have a brand new MBP 13" using Thunderbolt-DVI adapter with my old Dell 2405 LCD. Have an interesting scenario ... when the display goes to "sleep" there is still some type of signal coming out of the display port.  The monitor will stay on and just blink "NO SIGNAL DETECTED ON INPUT 2".  But the monitor actually still stays on.When I put the entire laptop to sleep them the monitor will properly power down to sleep mode.

I don't think its the monitor because I've used this monitor with a number of different machines and graphics cards, in every scenario when I had the display set to sleep it powered off just fine.

MacBook Pro :: Double Tap Doesn't Save After Reboot Or After Waking From Sleep Mode?

my mbp i7's double tap doesn't save when i set it to a certain "double-click speed" so when i put my mbp to sleep or restart it, i'm forced to go back to the settings and set my double-click speed again. The point of me doing this is because for some reason, my double-click doesnt register or hi-light the text in the URL or text in essays etc. when its set up to the fourth notch on the slide bar. so i have to put it down to 0 on the bar in order for my double tap to register. Its really annoying to have to redo this every time i come back to my mbp.

My MacBook Pro 13" (Mid 2010) doesn't go to sleep, when I close the lid or when I try to activate sleep under the Apple menu. I haven't changed nothing in the system preferences. I already tried the following: unplugged all USB devices plugged and unplugged external display closed all applications (except of Finder of course) resetted all energy saving preferences deactivated bluetooth checked share options (everything is deactivated)

Then I unplugged it from the power supply and after I closed the lid, it went to sleep. Then plugged in power supply again and sleep didn't work.

MacBook Pro :: 13" - Unplugging Cord Or Device Doesn't Flicker Screen When In Sleep

Sep 3, 2009

I bought this machine after selling my old Aluminium MacBook expecting simply better battery and a bit faster, but there's tons of little updates that I'm thoroughly impressed with.

- Unplugging a cord or device from MBP doesn't flicker the screen when in sleep

- Screen "fades" in after sleep instead of instantly popping in

- If I have the screen at lowest brightness, and wake from sleep, before it would flicker full brightness then go to low again, now it stays low

- Backlighting had so much bleed on old MacBook that it was painful to use, it "bled" everywhere. Now it's only the letter of the key and a small rim around the key
