Aug 22, 2010I close my laptop for short periods of time (going to the bathroom, making food, etc.) and it's kinda odd how Apple doesn't let you do this seemingly basic thing.

May 2, 2012All of a sudden, my MacBook Pro has stopped going to sleep when I close the lid. Instead, the indicator light on the front stays on steadily. When I then open the lid, I am asked to log in again, but before I can type anything, the window goes completely black. My only choice at this point has been to hold the power button down long enough to shut the laptop off. Then I wait a minute or so before restarting. Is there a setting I need to check to prevent all of this from happening? I have tried restarting in Safe Mode, then restarting normally, but still the laptop will not go to sleep when I close the lid.

Jul 4, 2012Normaly it goes to sleep, when I close the Lid, but suddently this function stopped. That means that Mac'en still is running and become warm, during transport.

Jul 31, 2010I'm a Mac Pro guy and this is my first Mac laptop. How do I make it so nothing happens when I close the lid? Not using external display or anything. Sometimes it's just nice to be able to close the laptop when moving from place to place, I just don't see the need to sleep the machine when I do so. I do this on my Acer laptop all the time.

Apr 22, 2012I was wondering if there was anyway that I could get my Dell E173FP monitor to sleep when I close the lid to my macbook pro. I do not have it on mirroring mode. When I close the lid to my laptop it will just switch my desktop to the monitor instead of the monitor going to sleep with my macbook. When I press the power button and click sleep or go to the apple menu and click sleep it will work though. This really irritates me and I would like It to sleep when I close the lid instead of having to do more.

Mar 28, 2012MBP/Lion - I'm using my MBP in dual monitor mode with an external monitor and power supply connected. If I close the lid and then disconnect the monitor, my MBP won't wake after opening the lid. I know that with Lion a change was made and the power stays on with an external monitor attached and the lid closed (with the adapter plugged in), but if you unplug the display, there doesn't seem a way out of this state. Even plugging the monitor back in, the display wont refresh In this state the power managment is confused. When closed, the power light is on, with the lid opened the power light goes off, the display remains blank and I can't wake the device. The only solution is to re-boot. as I just want to close the lid, unplug power and the monitor and leave work to go home. I end up running the battery down if I don't catch it before putting the MBP in my bag, and I always have to reboot.

Apr 28, 2012Ever since I have updated my Macbook Pro to the newest version of OS, it will go into a sleep mode when I close the lid that I can only wake with powering off the entire computer. I used to be able to close the lid for the night, open it in the morning, and it would be like I never even left it overnight. Now I try to wake it up with pushing everything possible. Is this new to the update? I even tried to set the settings to "never sleep".

Oct 10, 2009I set the MBP to sleep in 10 min through the Energy Saver pref with the option to sleep the hdds. When it's about to sleep the screen dims, then turns black, then the sleep light comes on but does not blink no matter how long I leave it. The blinking only happens when I close the lid or when I select the Sleep option under the Apple logo. Is that normal behavior?

Jul 19, 2009I recently notice that whenever i close my macbook the fan would kick in while in sleep mode. in addition because of the usage of the fan while in sleep mode my battery consumption diminishes very quickly. also after i open it up the macbook is frozen (the screen does not come on and i must restart manually). ive had my macbook for about 2 year and have gone through about 240 battery cycles.

Jul 1, 2012My iMac becomes totally unresponsive after sleeping for any length of time. It will not wake from sleep, even if I connect a wired keyboard; and it will not shut down or restart until I reset the SMC by unplugging the comptuer from power for 15-30 seconds. I can restart the computer after resetting the SMC, but the same thing happens every time the computer goes to sleep.Â
I have also set the computer sleep slider to "never" and reset the PRAM. Although people have been complaining about this issue for months, Apple's Lion updates have not addressed this issue.Â

Dec 28, 2009Nine times out of ten, when I wake my Imac from sleep, I get a notification that Safari stopped my shut-down (?) and then a second one asking if I'm sure I want to close the open Safari windows. Also, if Itunes was open when I put the machine to sleep, it's almost always closed when I wake it up.

Aug 29, 20142010 iMac running 10.9.4. Lately certain programs are forced to close on a regular basis. This includes Safari, Mail, Crashplan. It usually happens when the computer is sleeping. When I wake up the computer first thing in the morning, I usually have 3 - 4 messages saying that certain programs were forced to restart. This can also sometimes occur when the computer is not sleeping, but when I am using it. Typically it's Safari that is forced to restart. Â
Recently upgraded RAM and added Crashplan software for data backup. Â
