MacBook Air :: Closing The Lid To Sleep Makes Air Panic And Shut Down?

Apr 24, 2010

I have a first gen MBA 1.6, and recently (like two days ago) every time I close the lid it shuts down. It doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen more times than it doesn't. Booting it up after, a window tells me a kernel problem has occurred.

Sorry, no real knowledge of the underpinnings of how software works - so if any of you have ever experienced this, or have some tips or diagnoses, I will certainly be thankful for it.

MacBook Pro :: Stop From Going To Sleep When Closing The Lid

Apr 15, 2012

I have an old MBP laying around that is not worth selling due to a number of little issues it has. However, it still functions just fine and, I think, would make an excelent server. However, there is one small issue: If I close the lid, it will go to sleep.

I've tried using a few different apps, InsomniaX and Caffiene being two of the more popular ones, but so far nothing seems to take. I know I can do this with the use of an external monitor or mouse, but I don't want to have to keep a mouse plugged in simply so my server can run and I don't have, or want, to set up a monitor for it.

how I can make my MBP behave as I'd like?

MacBook :: System Going Deep Sleep Automatically / Sleeps On Closing Laptop

Aug 23, 2009

So one day I activated deep sleep from this widget like I always do when I want to keep my 100% charge and i'm traveling with my macbook and keep my stuff saved.

It didn't work. So I kept clicking. clicking. clicking. Nothing.

So I slept my mac, and woke it again and it worked.

However when I went to wake it, I just got a grey screen. I held down the power button to cold boot, and when I rebooted it booted from the RAM file like it would normally when waking from deep sleep.

But now every-time I close the laptop it goes into deep sleep.

Because it happened to me a few times where the cursor will skip or one time the cursor wont even move or be responsive with my finger. The weird part is that once I exit safari the trackpad seems to work again perfectly. Also not sure if its because I have sweaty hands and my fingers are too wet? But its not something excessively sweaty or nasty just a lil moisture I guess on my finger tips at times.
Update: Never mind, found out the culprit istat pro.

MacBook Pro :: Panic After Wake From Sleep?

Jun 27, 2012

I put my (early 2010, i5, 8Gb RAM, 500Gb HDD, OSX 10.7.4, all other software up to date) MacBook pro to sleep by closing the lid, it goes to sleep, then minutes or hours later I go to wake it up again by opening the lid and see the screen flash briefly (with whatever I was running before sleeping) but then the screen goes black and the MacBook does not respond to anything but a hard reset.I have done the following via tech support or my own research:

Hard drive verified and repaired (it found some folder problems but fixed them) all clear, also memory all clear (using Rember, overnight), opened it up and re-seated just in case, permissions all good. It doesn't run particularly hot either (and the issue only ever happens when it's trying to wake from sleep, so it's cold anyway). Cleared SMC, PRAM, Caches, Started in Safe mode.

I have also removed everything from my Login startup group except for EvernoteHelper and BetterTouchTool, I'm running Chrome as my browser but I tried unintsalling it and moving to Safari but this didn't help either. Issue is still happening, I would guess maybe 50% of the time I open to wake up but mostly when it has been asleep for more than an hour (the case is completely cold).

When I restart the "error report" screen comes up with the following

Interval Since Last Panic Report:414234 secPanics Since Last Report:  4Anonymous UUID:25C06CD4-2D86-43A6-9B1E-CE92D326E89A  Tue Jun 19 08:49:54 2012panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff7f80a7a947): NVRM[0/1:0:0]: Read Error 0x00000100: CFG 0xffffffff 0xffffffff 0xffffffff, BAR0 0xd2000000 0xffffff8113f5e000 0x0a5480a2, D0, P2/4Backtrace (CPU 2),

[code]....

The only thing I haven't done is an extended hardware test (will do that tonight) and a complete clean install (which I would really rather avoid).

Is this something I should be worried about?  I thought that SSDs isn't mechanical as a traditional HDD so I reckon the sound must be something else but I cannot pinpoint what it is.

MacBook Pro :: Shut Down Instead Of Going To Sleep?

Jun 16, 2012

I had some weird issue with my MBP last night. I let it running when I went to sleep so it could finish a download for me. The battery was fully charged, and I've done it in the past, and MBP would just go to stand by after it finished the download. But this time when I woke up it was turned off completey. I thought it was the battery, so I connected it to power to charge it again, and all of a sudden my MBP turned back on without me pushing any buttons or so. I than had to sign on again and when I checked the battery it wasn't empty, so MBP should have gone to sleep instead of shutting down.

After I signed on I was told that date and time had been set back to the original settings and I had troubles connecting to the internet. When it finally worked again after about 45 minutes I was asked to allow configd and mDNSresponder access, that also never happened before...

Is there anyone who could explain to me what happened or what might have caused this?

OS X :: MacBook Sleep And Barely Visible Kernel Panic Screen?

May 22, 2009

Something weird has happened twice in the last week or so - I close my MacBook (black), open it later (I think both times I moved it somewhere), and when I re-open the screen is black and I have to restart using the power button.

What I noticed this time is that I could barely make out text on the screen, and although I couldn't read the whole thing, it was definitely a kernel panic "grey screen of death":

I'm wondering why this could be happening - both times it definitely had to do with closing and re-opening the laptop, and I'm wondering what the dimmed screen (I could barely make out the words) says about the issue.

MacBook Pro :: 17 I5 - Battery Calibration - Shut Off Rather Than Going Into Sleep?

Jun 23, 2010

I just bought MBP 17 i5 model a couple days ago from a local apple store(Keystone Mall). and I calibrated my battery yesterday. The thing is I know MBP should sleep when the battery is really low(running off reserve) then when the battery drains out, MBP should do the "safesleep" thing where it stores the current state of the machine so that upon turning the machine back on by supplying the power to it or after charging, MBP returns to the stored state.

But, when i was calibrating my battery, I did get the low battery warning(reserve battery blah blah) but then it drained down to 0 then the screen flickered(literally made a flicking sound) and went dead. When I got up in the morning I plug the adapter on and turned the MBP on and MBP just freshly boots.. rather than restoring the previous state..................

MacBook :: Wakes From Sleep When Power Connected And Lid Shut?

Oct 3, 2009

My macbook has developed a problem where when the lid is shut and the power is connected it wakes up from sleep and then goes back to sleep and repeats this process every 30-60 seconds.

What's weird is it doesn't wake from sleep and get stuck in this loop whenthe lid is open and the power is connected and I select sleep from the Apple menuwhen the lid is shut and the power is NOT connected and is running from the battery

I recently updated my mac to Snow Leopard and put in a new HDD and since doing so the problem has been occurring.

IMac (Intel) :: Makes Normal Startup After Had Been Put Into Sleep

Jun 24, 2014

iMac makes normal startup after had been put into sleep..One strange behaviour can be observed with iMac Late 2013.At the end of day the user puts the mac into sleep. On next day pushing the power button is necessary to activate the mac.

The main point is that iMac starts up as it was shut down at the previous day(this is conclusion based on screens shown after mac activation).

User expectation is, that on next day when activating it the mac show screens as it was leaving sleep instead of showing screens typical for normal startup (after hard power down).

MacBook Pro :: Double Tap Restarting After Sleep Mode / Restart / Shut Down

Oct 23, 2010

so i've been having an issue with the double tap to hi-light any text i wish to copy. Such things as double tapping the URL bar to hi-light the whole url so i can just retype w/e site i want to go to. Every time i restart or turn off or my mbp goes to sleep and i reopen it, the double tap function resets. So i'm forced to go to the system preferences > trackpad> "double-click speed" to slowest in order to get my double tap to hi-light anything again. Is there something wrong with my mbp? Or is there a way i can save the settings when i put the double-click speed to slow so that it wont reset every time my mbp needs to be woken up or restarted?

MacBook :: Laptop Holds Charge Only In Sleep Mode / Shut Down

Jul 3, 2010

I tried SMC resets and everything. The Macbook takes a charge and charges normally when it is asleep, or off. It will charge to the max (96%). Battery has 349h load cycles. Charges when asleep or off. As soon as I power on the laptop or wake it up, it will stop charging. Battery holds the normal charge I usually get (3ish hours). Tried a few pram and smc zaps. Battery charger is a Hong Kong knockoff. Battery inside is genuine. 2008 Aluminum Macbook. Cleaned magsafe and port with q-tip and still to no avail.

When plugged in, it will run *off the battery* and the charger will show a green light and not trickle charge the battery. It will drain the battery, and then when it is drained it will run off the power. Check the screen shot. I am thinking that the charger is the culprit. Because it holds a charge when I let it charge while it is off. It will charge up just fine, in the two hours or whatever it takes to charge itself up. Battery usage is normal when it is running off the battery.
