I have noticed something strange that occurs occasionally on my MBP (i5, latest gen). The display seems to have "noise" in the quality of graphics. It's hit or miss when it happens, and a reboot stops it temporarily. It returns after a few days.

I have noticed an incredible difference in the quality of the screens, including the brightness. My 15" seems to be very bright and vivid compared to the 13".

Each time I connected the Mac to the projector and took it off, there was random noise on the display. I considered it as normal. Now the lessons are over and I don't use the projector any more. However, every time I turn on the Mac and when I shut it down, I see the same noise on the display.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe last time I bought a Mac I wanted to buy an aluminum 24" iMac... but I just won't tolerate funky display issues as I am a professional photographer and need a great display (like the white 2.0 GHz CoreDuo iMacs have!). Great display? No such luck with the new aluminum iMacs. Anyway, my solution was to buy a MacBook 2.2 GHz (2.4's weren't quite out yet), load it up with 4 GB of RAM, pop in a Hitachi 250 GB Hard Drive and hook it up to a sweet new HP LP2465 24" wide screen S-PVA monitor. Also hooked up a few high capacity external hard drives for the mega storage I need for client images. Here's what it looks like on my desk: I use this to multi task with numerous applications simultaneously along with editing large files in Photoshop CS3. Though this isn't the hottest machine to come down the pike, I have found it to be very capable and super enjoyable to use as a Photoshop workstation. It is speedy and a perfect mate to the 24" HP widescreen monitor. And with pulling just a few plugs, I can head off to the sofa or bed to surf the net, do e-mails, etc. in relaxed comfort. Now I'm really hoping the forthcoming Mac mini revision includes an option with at least the specs of the current MacBook (2.4 GHz, 4 GB ram, etc) or BETTER! so I can use it on my desk permanently with the HP monitor and leave my MacBook for use when away from my desk. If the screens on the new 24" iMacs were what they should have been, I'd snap up a 3.06 GHz model in a hot hurry... but unfortunately, Apple screwed the pooch on displays in the new iMacs. DANG that bothers me. And I won't buy another iMac again until Apple gets the displays right again.

I have a quick question regarding the image quality when connecting my Mac Mini to my Samsung Monitor 24'' monitor. I am connecting it through a HDMI -> DVI adapter and connecting it through the DVI on my monitor. Although it does display the image, the colour look off, it doesn't look sharp or high definition at all. I checked the resolution and it shows up as 1920 x 1080, which should be very good, but the resolution doesn't look good at all. I am wondering if this is because I am using a 24inch monitor and whether I should try getting a HDMI cord to connect HDMI to HDMI from the Mac Mini to the monitor, or get a HDMI > VGA adapter instead, or maybe buy a better monitor?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use studio monitors (speakers) with my macbook pro 13 (2010) and a samsung 1080p external display. Whenever I plug the display in, it causes a hum in the speakers, and weirdly the pitch of this hum varies depending on the brightness of the contents of my screen. I have borrowed my friends USB audio interface, and I still experience the same problem, except the hum is now cleaner and louder. I would assume this rules out problems with the internal sound card.
In both cases, the hum stops when the sound card/output 'goes to sleep' (ie after there has been no sound output for a few seconds). Also the hum only starts when the computer is outputting to the display. In the few seconds between physically plugging the display in, and the mac sending a signal to it, there is no hum. This is why I'm starting to think this may be a problem with the computer and not the monitor. The monitor is a cheap (£120) monitor - samsung p2270HD, and also has a TV tuner and stuff.
What I need to know is whether this is a problem with the computer, bleeding the signal through to the sound output, or whether it's my kind of crappy monitor. Another thing, might it help if I changed from VGA (analogue) to DVI (digital) video output?

Just curious... what do you guys think a new display would offer that a current one doesn't. The biggest one they have now is more then enough and I like the picture quality. What else besides size and resolution could they upgrade?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a base MBP-RD and can say that I am overall impressed with it, though I have found a couple issues already. One of them is related to the iSight camera which for some reason doesn't work. The camera appears in system profiler, but it shows as "camera not detected" when trying to launch application like iChat, Skype, FaceTime, etc. I already tried re-installing OSX Lion, and still not working.
I have also found some weird issue with graphics where it freezes a series of frames when going to Mission Control or App Expose.
I am returning this computer as there are other things I didn't like, but overall pretty impressive (no LED battery indicator, no Lock slot, no sleep light indicator...)
Short and sweet: how do the speakers on the new Cinema Display sound? I know they won't be phenomenal or anything, but are they at least decent? Balanced? Loud?
View 4 Replies View Relatedas it happens just came back from a small apple store nearby with the intention of buying the unfortunately I found a display related blocker... : it turned out that the exposed 27" had banding problems that were clearly visible when you opened (for example) a full screen terminal window with 100% opaque black background; if you did, you could see as at least that 27 imac showed very good black levels for over 3/4 from left to right of the display, but as you looked towards right the remaining 1/4 of the screen presented a mild gradient from black to grey that was particularly noticeable in the right edge and bottom-right corner of the display.

1. Is the 4850 the best card to get right now? This card was announced a long time ago and nothing new seems to be coming out anytime soon. I don't want to buy this card and have a new card announced soon after.
2. The ATi has one display port and one DVI. Is there a card with 2 display ports?
I have a friends macbook. It's circa 2004 according to her. The display look horrible. It looks equivalent to like 8bit windows YUCK. I'm not sure the problem, but it's hard to diagnose (I'm a noob anyway), when I can't see anything!!

I have the latest Mac Pro with a Cinima Display, and, yesterday, I have bought a Thunderbolt Display. Unfortunately this new display does not work with my big mac. Has anyone a clue if Apple or a third party supplier is offering or will offer a graphic board supporting Thunderbolt Display or rather an adapter doing so?

Started archiving all my old photos and creating dvds. started off using iphoto which is great for compiling a quick slideshow to a couple of music tracks. i then imported these to idvd and created my first dvd project which i was pretty pleased with for a first attempt. The only thing i found annoying was that i could not link all the slideshows together in idvd so that they played one after another, instead you had to come back to the menu and start the next one...so i thought i would import these slideshow movies into imovie and create a complete movie with chapters, titles etc. but when i did this i noticed that the quality of the slideshow in imovie was very noticeably worse.
being new to mac i wasnt sure what was up so i thought about importing the photos directly into imovie and working with them there. but once again the quality was really poor compared to the iphoto and idvd slideshows. after this i though maybe its just a preview problem and all will be well when i burn them to dvd and watch them on tv...so i burnt a dvd with one slideshow created in iphoto and imported into idvd and also put on a movie of the same slide show that id imported into imovie and back.
anyway long story short quality still better in slide show created in iphoto.
is there any way to export the movie as high as my project quality everytime i export the quality goes down.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn FCPX 10.1.3 I was able to set in Preferences the Playback Quality to High Quality. I just purchased FCPx 10.1.4. It has NO such High Quality Option for Playback Quality.
Now all my still clips are blurred badly. Is there an option to set a High Quality Playback Option. Or can I download 10.1.3, the level where that worked ?

When I export my sequence into a Quicktime movie the quality is much worse than it appears in the editor. More specifically, it looks washed out.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe display on the Mac computer at my work has been changed so that all the icons are very tiny, the fonts are very large, and when I move the mouse, the entire screen moves so that most of the time a part of the screen is hidden and I have to jiggle the mouse around to read everything - I'm not scrolling, it just automatically does it without me clicking. I am not really familiar with Macs but I do know how to get to system preferences, and I can't think what option might make the screen do that. It really makes the computer harder to use - does anyone know what it is? I also didn't see where I could make the icons bigger or smaller, it doesn't seem like the Desktop/Display really does it.

After packing away my little brothers sawtooth 400Mhz with 384mb RAM and an 8Mb ATI AGP graphics card and then unpacking it I've been having a problem. When starting the computer up the screen shows nothing at all I have tested to see if the screen is broken and it seems to be functional. I think the card itself might be broken? BTW, I'm using the VGA slot and not the DVI slot on the back. I have also removed and cleaned the card just incase that might've been the problem.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my 2.0ghz Alu Macbook a few days ago and everything works perfectly well, the thing is that after day one the magsafe started to emit a low pitched electrical whistling noise. It tends to be there a few minutes after booting into the OS and then it turns down to almost unhearable, but I experienced it returning after a few hours of use and then disappearing again. If I move close to the escape key I can hear a crackling noise emitting from the magsafe.I'm not trying to be overly nitpicky or anything but I read somewhere that if it's doing that it would be a faulty Mag-Safe board or something.
Does any one you guys know anything about this? I have the 14 days to return it as I bought it online from the Apple Store so if it's a faulty part that might die/break/ cause problems later I might have to.
