I am about to buy a Mac Mini and want to find out how it works with using a 1080p (Pioneer Kuro) TV as a monitor
How does it look on the TV i.e. especifically what's the quality like?
I am sure many people have done this, I am probably going to be using a digital cable (ToSlink) for the sound and a Mini DV to HDMI cable for the video
I have a quick question regarding the image quality when connecting my Mac Mini to my Samsung Monitor 24'' monitor. I am connecting it through a HDMI -> DVI adapter and connecting it through the DVI on my monitor. Although it does display the image, the colour look off, it doesn't look sharp or high definition at all. I checked the resolution and it shows up as 1920 x 1080, which should be very good, but the resolution doesn't look good at all. I am wondering if this is because I am using a 24inch monitor and whether I should try getting a HDMI cord to connect HDMI to HDMI from the Mac Mini to the monitor, or get a HDMI > VGA adapter instead, or maybe buy a better monitor?

I have a new Mac Mini. I have the mini display port to dvi adapter that came with it. I want to connect to Samsung monitor with a dvi-d port. My problem is that I can't find a dvi-d cable shorter than 6'. Since the Mac Mini sits on my desk next to the monitor, I would like to have a short cable or one that would go directly from the computer to the monitor without an intervening 6' long cable. Anyone know where I can get one?

I have a unibody MacBook with a native resolution of 1280x800. I downloaded several wallpapers from [URL] all at 1280x800 and whenever I use them as wallpapers they appear either scaled up and pixelated or severely scaled down (at "Fit to screen" and "Center" respectively). Previously I had a 17" PowerBook at 1440x900 and didn't have that issue.

I get digital audio out of the Mini via another cable. First question, if I were to use a mini-display port to HDMI adapter would I get both sound & video?

My gadget loving self has purchased a HP Wireless TV Connect. I was planning to use the dual HDMI output of receiver but I couldn't work on the PC and have someone watch PLEX so that is why I ask about dual screen (essentially extended desktop) using those two ports. The plan is to use a mini-display port to HDMI adapter and connect it to the transmitter of the HP Wireless TV connect and then an Apple display to the receiver. Make the main display the Apple display and the extending desktop running PLEX on that screen the Kuro.

What would the sound quality be like? Will it be ok? I know i wont get surround sound or anything.. but hopefully it will still be crisp audio...

Just curious... what do you guys think a new display would offer that a current one doesn't. The biggest one they have now is more then enough and I like the picture quality. I have noticed an incredible difference in the quality of the screens, including the brightness. My 15" seems to be very bright and vivid compared to the 13".

View 4 Replies View Relatedas it happens just came back from a small apple store nearby with the intention of buying the unfortunately I found a display related blocker... : it turned out that the exposed 27" had banding problems that were clearly visible when you opened (for example) a full screen terminal window with 100% opaque black background; if you did, you could see as at least that 27 imac showed very good black levels for over 3/4 from left to right of the display, but as you looked towards right the remaining 1/4 of the screen presented a mild gradient from black to grey that was particularly noticeable in the right edge and bottom-right corner of the display.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm a Windows user and I recently bought a Mini C2D 1.83 to plug in to my LCD TV. The Mini is running Leopard and it's connected to the TV via DVI, 1360x768, millions of colors, the works. Everything's set up with QuickTime + Front Row + iTunes + DivX + AC3 (AC52). I dropped aliases for my Lacie NAS drive in the 'Movies' folder so that I can access my movies via Front Row. So far so good. It's a slick setup and I'm loving it.
There's just one headscratcher (and tentative dealbreaker) that bugs me... why does all video look like crap? The same movies that looked gorgeous when played back on the same TV from my retired WinXP media machine, now look like bad YouTube videos on the Mac. All dark areas are blocky as hell -- what's supposed to be black (or thereabouts) looks more like 'Turd Tetris' (a bunch of huge squares in various flavors of brown)..............
After a frustrating 2 years of video editing on a PC (crash/freeze/loss of work etc), I'm looking to switch to Mac and Final Cut. Even editing high quality SD video (720p/720i), would it be insane to buy a Mac Mini? Would it not be powerful enough? My other option is waiting for the next iMac refresh.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just picked up a 2010 Mac Mini. Intel 2.4 cpu, installed a OWC SSD and 8gb of RAM. Anyways, using the HDMI to DVI that was included, anytime I switch to have the monitor rotated 90 degrees so it is in portrait, the quality goes away. The text no longer looks clear, the display seems to lag, and if I drag a window, the image tears really bad. Just confirmed this also happens with a mini display port to dvi connection. I have also tried 2 different DVI cables, both a single link and a dual link.

I know the mini has both mini-dvi to dvi and mini-dp to dvi or hdmi available via adapters. I was thinking to go with option 1 however I was wondering what is your opinions? Is mini-display port better over mini-dvi or are they the same? Audio will be carried over optical toslink.
Option 1:
Using mini-dvi adapter to dvi: Connect Dvi-Hdmi cable to receiver and output audio with toslink adapter.
Option 2:
Using mini-dp adapter to dvi or hdmi: Connect Dvi-Hdmi cable to receiver and output audio with toslink adapter.
when I connect my macbook unibody with dvi to my dell monitor the quality of the screen is not as "good" as when I connect my windows pc to it. Is this only a problem on macbook, or is the mac mini the same?

Well anyway, I also have a 19" display and it works perfectly. My Xbox, cable box and movies all use the full widescreen on the Acer, but the Macbook with the super amazing Mini DisplayPort doesn't even use the full resolution. What's with that? I thought the reason they had this new port and a $30 adapter was for higher resolutions!
