I'm not a huge gamer, but sometimes my 120GT (in a 2.66 Quad Nehalem) just doesn't cut it.
I'm open to flashing a PC card, but I do need that damned mini displayport for the 24in LED monitor.
Do I have a lot of options?
What way is there to be able to use this card with the ACD? From what i know it doesn't have a mini display port that the ACD features!

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor anyone wanting to use their Mini Display port connector on their 4870 with a panel that has the standard size display port connector, I've found a source for a cable that works perfectly. It has the mini display port on one end and a full size display port on the other. Cost $19 bucks shipped and works like a champ. The cable is nice and compact, thinner and more flexible than my DVI cable. I'm quite pleased! ( it's the little things.... )

I want to ask about spec-ing a Pro with a decent graphics card for games. While it's not the only thing I will use the computer for, it will be one of it's main uses. Is it better to get one with the default 2600 and then buy a more recent Windows graphics card like an ATI 4870 and use boot camp? If I do this can I buy any PC/Windows card and keep both in so that Vista will use the PC one and OSX will use the 2600? I don't want to have to switch things around internally every time I boot to a different OS. Or should I just BTO the Nvidia 8800GT and keep things simple? As far as I can tell the 8800GT should give decent performance, at least for another few months..
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have an original, stock Mac Pro (August 2006), which has performed flawlessly until yesterday. It seems to start up fine (I can hear the usual hard drive spinning sounds, but my display (Apple 23" LCD) is now totally blank (black). The power light on the display is lit (and I've verified that the display still works by connecting it to my MacBook Pro), so I can only assume that the graphics card (Nvidia GeForce 7300GT) has died. What are my options as far as replacing this card nowadays? I don't play games on my Mac Pro, but I do use it for Photoshop and iMovie and also to watch QT videos and DVDs (as well as browsing the internet, of course). I should add that I have zero experience with installing graphics cards, but I'm comfortable with getting into the machine and doing simple things like adding memory and additional hard drives.

I have a Dell monitor which has a Display port input and I want to use it as a second monitor. The DVI input in the Dell monitor is taken up.
But how do I connect from the mini-display in the iMac to the Display port in Dell monitor ? Doesn't look like aplle sell this connector cable !

Relevant newbie to the mac world. I have a MBP late 2009. I bought a third party Mini display port to HDMI converter so I can hook the MBP to my 46" Samsung screen.
This works fine, no major issues here. However the picture is not great. I compared watching a standard definition TV show through the MBP then burnt it onto a DVD. The DVD (using the PS3 as my DVD drive, connected via HDMI) had superior quality than through the MBP.
Also the picture does not quite fill the screen. There is a small black border running all the way around the screen. Does not sound significant but when doing the same comparison as above, you notice the difference when via DVD the movie fills the screen. I have played around with the resolution settings. Those that fill the screen chop bits of the mac desktop off, so thats no good either.
So I am wondering why this is? Is it because the mini display port is not a DVI port, hence I am not getting true HD quality picture? How can I overcome this if at all. I'm thinking of getting a mac mini as a media hub/HTPC but want to ensure I dont encounter the same problems.
If I bought the cheapest iMac at base model right now, in a month or two could I buy more RAM for it? Then could I later buy a better video/graphics card and get that put in And could I have these things done by official Apple peoples. Not that I care much - I'd just like to know if official people do this.

It appears to be geared towards Apple since it debuted with onboard DisplayPorts. However, it should be noted on their specs page that the system requirements currently do not list any version of Mac OSes. Matrox do list Linux support though. Do note that they didn't leave out regular DVI users. Direct Link for more details on the specs.
How many of you would like to see a HDMI Port? Why the miniDisplay port? Why not remove ethernet jack and miniDisplay port and replace it with a HDMI port. That way one HDMI cable feeds digital video AND audio. Am I the only one thinking of this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a PCI card made by SIIG: CyberSerial PCI 16550 RS232 Serial I/O Card. After I got it I noticed the system requirements only list Windows.For the **** of it I installed it in my Power Mac. The system seems to recognize it in "About This Mac..." as a "Serial Controller". There appear to be serial ports assigned to it: /dev/cu.pci-serial3a.When I try to run a serial terminal program over this port (connected to some known working hardware) I get gibberish. I've checked out the cable and remote hardware on another machine and it works fine.

I need to connect my 09' Mac Mini to my Yamaha RX-V2700 receiver which outputs to my Sony XBR HDTV. I know the mini has both mini-dvi to dvi and mini-dp to dvi or hdmi available via adapters. I was thinking to go with option 1 however I was wondering what is your opinions? Is mini-display port better over mini-dvi or are they the same? Audio will be carried over optical toslink.
Option 1:
Using mini-dvi adapter to dvi: Connect Dvi-Hdmi cable to receiver and output audio with toslink adapter.
Option 2:
Using mini-dp adapter to dvi or hdmi: Connect Dvi-Hdmi cable to receiver and output audio with toslink adapter.
I'm getting a high resolution, and it looks alright, but it's not fully using the widescreen. That's "aspect" right? Well anyway, I also have a 19" display and it works perfectly. My Xbox, cable box and movies all use the full widescreen on the Acer, but the Macbook with the super amazing Mini DisplayPort doesn't even use the full resolution. What's with that? I thought the reason they had this new port and a $30 adapter was for higher resolutions!

A the Apple store in London they said that this is possible with a Belkin converter from hdmi to mini display port (with a USB power caple to turn it into an active signal). When I use 1920x1080, I only get 60 Hz and the display is a fuzzy (text). Also, there are black bars. Why?

i have a 15 inch apple studio display which has ADC (was partnered with the cube) and I purchased a DVI adaptor so it now works fine with the DVI port on the macbook pro. So I have a late 2009 Mac Mini hooked up to my Kuro via the mini-DVI to DVI adapter then DVI/HDMI cable to my receiver. I get digital audio out of the Mini via another cable. First question, if I were to use a mini-display port to HDMI adapter would I get both sound & video?
I love using PLEX but my Mac Mini is my only "computer" (I have an iPad). I would like to sit at my desk and use photoshop and other tools. Second question, can I do dual display using the mini-DVI and mini-Display Port jacks at the same time on a Late 2009 Mac Mini?
My gadget loving self has purchased a HP Wireless TV Connect. I was planning to use the dual HDMI output of receiver but I couldn't work on the PC and have someone watch PLEX so that is why I ask about dual screen (essentially extended desktop) using those two ports. The plan is to use a mini-display port to HDMI adapter and connect it to the transmitter of the HP Wireless TV connect and then an Apple display to the receiver. Make the main display the Apple display and the extending desktop running PLEX on that screen the Kuro.
So our church just purchased a nice refurb iMac to use for media presentations during weekly worship services. We have a projector with a VGA cable, so I bought a mini display port to VGA adapter from apple so that we can connect our shiny new iMac to our big screen.
However, when we attempt to connect our VGA to our adapter, they don't fit together properly. It's like the screws on the VGA cable aren't long enough to screw into the adapter...thus, the cable won't stay connected to the adapter (it just falls out).
Someone suggested getting an S cable to replace the VGA cable, but Apple tells me there's no adapter to link the S cable to the iMac. I'm absolutely clueless...surely there is a way to connect my wonderful new iMac to the big screen.
Any ideas?
I have a friends macbook. It's circa 2004 according to her. The display look horrible. It looks equivalent to like 8bit windows YUCK. I'm not sure the problem, but it's hard to diagnose (I'm a noob anyway), when I can't see anything!!
