MacBook Air :: How To Change Admin / Owner App Store Account
Dec 6, 2014
We have 5 macs in our family, all were configured under my iCloud account for the App store & I just used to log in with my iCloud account on my partner/daughters machines to do updates etc.
Daughter has now gone to Uni & I'd like to move her "App store account" side of things over to her own iCloud account so that she can continue doing updates etc. without needing me.
How do I go about changing this on her machine? I'm not looking to wipe the machine for resale etc. just give her the ability to carry out updates without needing my account details. There are a few minor apps installed on it from my Apple ID but nothing major that she'd worry about losing if she needed to remove them but what is the score in this area anyway?

I created a new admin account, and now I need to get all folders like Music, Documents, Video etc from old admin account. So, if I loged in as a new admin I see all folders with red sign in the coner and don't have permistion to see them or move. What are my options?
I do have Time Machine backup from old admin account, but it also doesn't let me open folders from the new admin.

I bought over a Mac Book Pro from a friend. I can't update iPhoto and other apps as it seems like these are tagged to the previous owner's account. It basically requires me to sign in to my fren's account which is absurb! Because iphoto comes with mac isn't it?

I'm new to Apple Comps, not having owned one since my Apple IIe long ago. I received a MacBook as a gift last weekend. I've spent the past few days trying to square things away due to a problem. The gifter bought the laptop at Best Buy and had the kinder there set it up and install Office. Unfortunately, the BB people used the name of the purchaser. I've been able to change the name on the Home folder and also the admin account by enabling the root user and tinkering with things. I still see "Snuffy Smith's MacBook" whenever I open Finder. I'm hoping there's any easier fix than to reinstall the OS. I'm running the comp under OS X 10.5.6.

My girlfriend just purchased a 1 year old Mac with OS X 10.5.2. Incredible as this seems, the previous owner mistakenly left all of her old information on the computer! We would like to delete this, but have been unable to contact her and get her password. Is there another way we can erase/delete this information?

I just bought a pre-owned macbook off of ebay. This is my second mac, so I'm somewhat familiar with them. Here's my problem: When I first booted it up, it never took me through the whole "new owner registration" screen that you would see on a brand new macbook, it just went straight to the desktop. I went in and changed the Admin name and info etc manually, but when the computer is shut down and booted back up, it has my name listed on the login screen, but that little tiny title above it that says "(Owner)'s Mac" still says the old owners name! Furthermore, when i access mac programs such as Front row, it still says his name also.
So my question is, where do I go to change this? Do I need to go through the whole new owner registration screen manually, and if so, will I lose all of my work that's stored on my HD?

I have just signed up for a MobileMe email address. I want to change my existing iTunes account registered email address to this new @me.com address. However, when I try to do so in my account details page, it says that my me.com email address already has an iTunes account attached to it.
How do I go about changing my registered iTunes account email address?

A freshly created account under 10.7.4. is a Admin account by default. The checkbox "Allow user to administer this computer" is grayed out. I end up with an Admin account and there is no way to convert this account into a Standard account. Facts: 10.7.4 - clean install on a current iMac i5 Freshly created account uses name of a deleted older account (my name)Repaired permissions several times (disk utility and "resetpassword utility" via terminal and safe boot)The older account had been relocated to a external disc for security reasons. There the access rights got corrupted so that I wanted to freshly create a new account and copy all files from a backup. how to create a new account for me?

Odd question, but when you start up your mac, there's the part where you choose the different accounts. Anyway to put my account (admin account) on top, so my user account is on the bottom. My admin account (the one I want on top) by the way starts with y while the one on top starts with f, so if it's alphabetical, that might explain it.

When I purchased my iMac a few years ago, I created one user account and just started using my computer. I am trying to implement a few Safe Computing practices by creating a new Admin user account and changing my original user account to a Standard user.
For some reason, I cannot change either of the accounts to a standard user after I type in the password. I've logged in as both and tried to change the other user profile to a standard user, but the checkbox is greyed out on both of the Admin User accounts.
I can create a new standard user, but I have everyting set the way I like it on my current Admin user account. It would be much easier to have a new Admin User account and "Downgrade" my original Admin account to a standard user account.
why the option to change from an Admin user to a standard user would be "Greyed Out"? The support articles walk me through, what should be a few simple steps, but I can not change the settings because the checkbox is greyed out.

I am new to the mac world (first mac ever coming tomorrow probably) and I've been trying to gather as much info as possible, so I am not totally helpless when it arrives. One thing I saw somewhere (can't quite remember where it was) was a guy suggesting that users (or new users, can't remember) didn't use their admin account all the time, have your admin account apart from your day-to-day account. Is this something I should do? What are the main differences between using an account without admin privileges and one with them?
