Apr 15, 2009I've seen a video on youtube awhile back about opening all the dock apps at once. But now I'm having trouble finding it. Does anyone know how to open them all at once?

Applications :: Open Program But Not Appear In Dock?
Mar 18, 2009Is there a way to have a program open at login (I know, I know, select "open at login") but then NOT appear in the dock when it's open? I'd like to have my Garmin software always open but hate the cluttered space of having it open. I can always close it with Cmd+tab. I'm running Leopard 10.5.6.

Sep 14, 2009I bought a macbook Pro 17" this August. This afternoon I found I can't open the applications in the dock. When I click an application icon, it doesn't start up, but instead the Application Window with a list of all my applications jumped out. But if I click the application icon in the Application Window, it will start up.
I am willing to start up the applications directly from the dock. Could anybody help me on it?
Another problem with my laptop is, everytime I left click a link in Safari, the link will open in a new tab of the same window. This problem came the same time as the last one.
OS X :: All Applications Bounce In Dock And Fail To Open
Sep 23, 2009Recently, software update stopped responding after I hit the "Install" button, so I had to force quit. Now, none of my applications will open- they just bounce in the dock for a while and stay there, without the dot appearing- including disk utility and system preferences (I thought it might be a repair permissions problem after poking around forums). I do not have install discs with me and plan on going to the apple store tomorrow.
Finder still works, and I emptied the trash, but now clicking on the trash gives me the message that it "cannot be opened while trash is being emptied," which leads me to believe something is frozen. So, my question is: it is safe to turn off or try restarting the computer? Last time I had a problem similar to this and restarted, I got the flashing folder icon that signaled my hard drive was dead, so I am worried about letting it go to sleep or shutting down.

Jun 30, 2010About a week ago I noticed that my open application icons weren't showing up in the dock. The only icons that will are the ones permanently docked there. I don't recall any software installations or setting changes I made, but its very possible I unknowingly changed something.

May 29, 2012I've poured over these boards in hopes to finding a solution as to why my dashboard won't open. It literally stopped working mid day, one day when I went to return to get a number off of my sticky note in my dashboard. I have tried posting the different lists from my preferences page, however, am unable to get the docments to actually drag to my desktop. I'm not sure if there are any other solutions, but was hoping to find a quick fix as opposed to traveling 2 hours to the nearest genius bar. Any help would be awesome!!

OS X :: Applications In Dock Suddenly Missing - Little Ball Showing Open
Apr 12, 2009I have an iBookG4 with Leopard. This morning I may have had too many applications going at once--camera applications plus listening to a talk using RealPlayer. Suddenly everything froze, but I got it all going again. However, now the little balls that appear under an application icon to show that the app. is open are missing. Also, when I click the icon, e.g., for Firefox which I'm using right now, the pop-up menu gives me the option to "Open" it, when, obviously, it's already open. There is no "Close" option in the menu anymore. I AM able to quit applications by clicking their name in the menu bar at the top of the screen. But I'm disturbed that this weirdness has happened. Things I've tried already, without effect:
1. Restarted computer. The computer won't shut down. Everything on my desktop disappears except for the wallpaper and the Dock.
2. Shut down computer (chose "Shut Down" as opposed to "Restart"). Same as #1. Won't shut down.
3. "Force Quit"--clicking on the Apple icon > Force Quit > clicking on the name of the application in the little window. Note: I haven't used Word this morning, but Apple icon > Force Quit > [little window] brought up a whole list of applications I haven't used, inc. Word.

Jul 1, 2008I've had my macbook pro for about 2 months, after 4 years on a pc (and 4 years on an imac before that). I love my MBP, but one major gripe I do have is that when I have a lot of windows, especially when I have a lot of word documents open, they can be hidden behind the current window I have open, but not show up on the dock (only show up on dock if they are minimized). On windows, this wasn't a problem. So, is it possible to make it easier to switch between windows that aren't minimized? make those windows show up on the dock? I know about expose, and I use it a lot (especially the application and all windows features). I know about spaces too, but I still would like something more like I described above.

Apr 20, 2010I'm running Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.2 on a MacBook3,1 (Late 2007). I'm currently having issues with the Finder. Current symptoms are:
1. When I click a directory in the Dock to open it in the Finder, I get an error that reads "You can't open the application Finder because it may be damaged or incomplete."
2. I've tried repairing permissions (from the OS and from the Install Disc), but the Disk Utility doesn't make any repairs even though it tells me it has made the repairs, because the exact same errors come up the next time I try to repair the permissions.
3. I also verified the disk, and it said I had to start from boot from another volume and repair the disk, so I booted from the install DVD and did so.....................
Safari :: Cannot Open It In Dock
Apr 17, 2012The Icon for Safari in my Doc has a large question mark ? over the icon. I cannot open Safari this way. I opened a document I downloaded and got on the internet that way. The internet is working fine.

Mar 11, 2010The problem began when I was attempting to force quit an app that had frozen last night. The Force Quit box wouldn't pop up and I got the rainbow pinwheel within Firefox. After the Force Quit box still wouldn't appear, I was able to shut down other apps and even able to restart the computer. Upon restart, once I tried to click an app on the dock, i'd see the icon bounce once or twice then just completely freeze. I'm able to move around the cursor arrow, but can't click anything.
This morning, I was able to open the Terminal (it never popped up in the dock for some reason) and did the 'killall Dock' command. At this point, my system started running real slow and I couldn't seem to double click anything. I had to cmnd + click 'Open' to get to the Activity Monitor. That opened, but then it froze and gave me the window pinwheel. I tried to force quit it, but it wouldn't quit. I had to hold down the power button to turn it off. When I tried rebooting, I couldn't even get to the Terminal anymore since now it would pop up in the dock when I opened it.

May 5, 2012Whenever I try to open a Folder from the Dock using the "Open In Finder" command the folder window does not show up but instead the Preview app starts up and scans the selected folder,i.e., Applications, for any files it recognises.
I have repaired the permissions but it makes no difference. I have removed all folder icons from the dock and replaced them but to no avail. I have deleted the dock preferences files in my Home folder & restarted but the problem remains.

I want to add a folder to the dock but when I click on that folder, I simply want it to open in finder. I don't want to click the folder and then view contents in in Grid or List view, I only want the finder to open with that folder's contents. Is this possible?

Sep 25, 2009my macbook (running Tiger) ran out of battery before it was able to shut itself down properly. Upon reboot (and ever since) Safari has been unable to open and there is no dock. I've tried installing firefox but it won't install, and many programs won't launch. I'm assuming something happened when the battery ran out, but I can't seem to fix it. Disk Utility won't work, AppleJack won't install,
I've restarted several times, tried to update.. everything, but nothing seems to work.
