So i have a Macbook pro that does weird thing when it comes out of sleep. When i open it, it does a loud sound, does a little reset and than gives me the login screen. After some time having that issue i noticed it's when it's charging while in sleep.
View 1 RepliesI have a 17" MacBook Pro Early 2011. I have noticed some strange behavior when I am charging the laptop.
For whatever reason, when I close the lid and put the machine to sleep, no matter how long the machine has been asleep when I open the lid again the machine wakes up just fine and the login screen shows, and then the display goes right back to sleep. This is not the entire machine - just the display. To wake the display, I have to unplug the Magsafe adapter. The screen comes back immediately after doing this. Plugging the machine back in does not cause the laptop to go back to sleep.All updates have been performed (Software Update gives me no available updates), and other than this issue there are no other problems with the machine. To my immediate knowledge, I don't know when this started, though I do know that it has been intermittent for some time. I was hoping that the firmware updates that came a few weeks ago would fix the issue, but it seems to recently have gotten worse. I cannot pinpoint anything that would be causing this... and environmentally nothing has changed. The laptop is in near perfect condition from when I bought it, I keep it in a sleeve and a padded backpack when I'm not using it.. and unless I have something open that I am still working on I actually shut my laptop down whenever I'm not using it (living in Texas this is a habit I developed due to old laptops being damaged due to the heat build up in a trunk. I don't actually leave my MBP in the car though especially if it is hot out...)

I have a late 2008 macbook, and occasionally after going into sleep via closing the lid or according to the sleep timer, it doesn't really want to wake up. I open the lid/press spacebar and the computer sounds like it's waking up, the keyboard lights up, but the screen stays dark. I've tried waiting for up to 30 seconds before eventually I just hold the power button and hard reset. Upon restart, there is an error message stating that os x crashed. I haven't been able to let it sit for more than a minute or two, as it usually happens when I'm getting ready to give a presentation or something, fun right.

My Macbook pro is not charging. If I move the cord (specially at the Macbook charging port) it charges. But again if the cord is slightly disturbed then it doesn't charge. The problem got worse as my Mac randomly shuts down (especially when I remove the mag at the Macbook charging port). I dono what to do. Apple care (Genius) is far from my place.There is no visible physical damage on my mag charger. Could anyone suggest what I should do? My version of InDesign CS4, will always crash after sleeping, especially when I have files open from a server volume. I've turned off the sleep hard disks when possible option in sys prefs.

I've been fighting bad sleep crashes for over a year. Sometimes it would freeze when it started sleep, sometimes when trying to wake from a sleep. I've spent countless hours researching the problem, reading everything on the boards. I tried resetting the PMU, turning off Bluetooth, removing all USB, and all of the other suggestions. Nothing alleviated the problem. Last week I replaced the lithium battery on the mother board because it wasn't keeping the correct time. I've a problem with my PowerBook G4 (12-inch DVI and Mac OS X 10.4.11). When I close the lid or when I manually try to make it sleep from the apple menu, it goes into sleep mode put only for 1 second and then shuts off (crashes). So instead of being able to wake up the computer, I have to boot it up from off.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just had the original 300 GB hard drive fail in my aluminum 24" inch iMac running the latest update of Leopard. I wasn't able to save it using diskwarrior (diskwarrior said it was some sort of mechanical failure) but I was able to recover most of the data from it by booting from an external hard-drive.
So I went out and purchased a brand new Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB drive. The install went fine, it found the drive partitioned it and installed Leopard successful. Then is crashed and disappeared when I left it alone to run all the software updates. I came back and the computer was stuck on "Restart Required" after downloading all the updates. I went to hit restart now, and the system just hanged, wouldn't do anything. So I hard powered down the system and restarted it. It came up with nothing, just stuck on the White Screen of Death. So I plugged the external drive back in and booted from it. Mac OSX couldn't find the drive and diskwarrior would crash if I tried to run it. I tried to boot up from the OSX start-up disk and it couldn't find the drive either.
So I took the case apart and made sure all the connections were solid and the drive was mounted correctly. Everything looked fine so I plugged it in and it started up fine. Finished the updates and the iMac ran great.
So I thought maybe it was overheating, so I've installed smcfancontrol and started to monitor the temp of the drive. I also took the mac apart again and sucked out any dust in the fans or vents. The drive never goes over a 105 F, so it doesn't seem to be overheating.
However, this is where the problem is consistent: everytime the iMac goes into sleep mode, it crashes and the iMac is unable to find the hard-drive again. Unless I unplug it completely for 5 minutes or so. Once I unplug it, it finds the drive and operates like a champ.
I think maybe there's an issue powering the drive back on? Anyone have any ideas?

However, I shut off all sleep mode options on the hard drive. I let it run for an hour and came back. It's also weird that I have to leave the computer completely unplugged for 10-15 minutes before the drive is recognized again.

I've been a PC guy for years, this was my first Mac, and honestly I don't know enough about the inner workings to narrow this down. I would assume this would have to do with the motherboard in some way? But I'm not sure how you would even test it.
I have a new iMac OS 10.7.3 I am using a SeaGate 1.5 TB external HD for backup.
If I leave the computer on continous everything works fine. It backs up every hour. It has been running fine for over a week. If I set the iMac in energy saver mode, say 10 minutes, when the iMac comes out of sleep mode there is a warning that Time Machine failed.
I get the following errors messages: "Time Machine could not complete the Backup" "Error while creating the Backup Folder"
There is no way to correct it or retry. I have to run disk utility and erase the external HD, re-format, then back everything again.
I would prefer to use the energy save feature of the iMac if I could. I tried the Apple Support number and they just said leave the iMac in "energy saver NEVER" so the iMac stays on continous.
Anyone able to let their IMac go in sleep mode with Time Machine turned on? It seems like a possible bug with 10.7.3?

They mention Kernel Panics.(Also, been getting Kernel Panics randomly popping up when I start up at the desktop. This is a 2010 iMac which I purchased refurbished not quite a year ago Already emailed seller with issues, think I might just return it as seems like hard drive is going. , as to troubleshooting before I go this route?

I have the odd situation of the power indicator on top right of screen showing that the power adapter is plugged in, but the percentage indicator stating that the laptop is "not charging." I have been working on the computer for several hours and the laptop has only charged to about 27 percent according to the battery health application that is runningI have. It says the battery has gone through 281 cycles and is 2.4 years old. It suggests the battery should still charge to 92 percent of its potential. The battery is warm as is the power adapter cube, so something is happening. The little light on the end of the power cord is green but only two of the little green dots light up on the left edge of the computer.

I got my computer yesterday, it's a iBook G4 OS X 10.5.8. The charger worked fine until around six o' clock. Then it wouldn't charge. We switched the power pack and it worked for an hour or so, and then the same thing. What can I do? I CANNOT take it to be fixed.

Running 10.6 fully updated and installed from scratch.I have been getting out of the blue crashes while the system is most of the times idle. Can it be the RAM? It's reported fine as 8GB 1333 DDR under the system info. The Intel SSD runs latest firmware.

I leave my Air on pretty much all the time, and put it to sleep while moving around etc. Sleeping it disconnect the Airport connection - which if very annoying. At a desk I've just been dimming the display all the way off in order to keep my connection.
However, I recently noticed that by setting a "sleep display" hot corner, my network connection is maintained.
I have 2 questions:
1) Is sleep display equivalent (functionally) to simply dimming the display all the way down?
2) Is there a way to either set up a shortcut to sleep the display (other than a hot corner) and/or set it so that only the DISPLAY sleeps after 'x' minutes?
I set the MBP to sleep in 10 min through the Energy Saver pref with the option to sleep the hdds. When it's about to sleep the screen dims, then turns black, then the sleep light comes on but does not blink no matter how long I leave it. The blinking only happens when I close the lid or when I select the Sleep option under the Apple logo. Is that normal behavior?

It happens after display sleep or computer sleep on login not on boot up .I've noticed that i run out of ram when the problem appears (only 15MB RAM available out of 4GB), though i doesn't happen every time . I've talked to service and told me its either motherboard replacement or because the ram isn't enough (gpu shares with main ram) so maybe i should try upgrading ram. URL....

I have torrents going all the time. If the computer goes to sleep, the internet disconnects, so they stop. Display sleep wouldn't disconnect though. Is it OK to have computer sleep on "never" but keep display on "15 minutes"? I don't usually even leave the computer on overnight.

Recently I've started connecting my 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (pre-unibody) Macbook Pro 17" to an external monitor (via DVI).
Since then my computer goes into Safe Sleep instead of Sleep (it's plugged into power).
This is an annoyance I'd rather avoid because even if all programs relaunch:I have to wait for them to launch (longer)Programs like Excel seem to have been quit in an unorthodox fashion: when it starts back up I get an error notice that it was shutdown inappropriately & the doc which reopens is a rescued version of the doc I had open before the safe sleep.

i've recently noticed my mac getting hot when being used and hotter when charging, the contact for the charger has not been as reliable as it once was and the gray molding aroung the copper contacts on the mac charger port is darkening on one end.

I connected my laptop to it's magsafe charger but it just says "Not Charging". The little light also isnt turning on to show any kind of signs that it is charging or not. My laptop does get brighter when on the chager, but thats about it. I tried plugging my laptop into my sister's Macbook Pro charger, and it works perfectly fine. Why isn't my Macbook air charging on its original charger?

Most of the time I charge when I get to 99%, it stays that way even if I leave it charging at 99% for a good amount of time. Anyone have this problem? Should I just take out my charger at 99% or what do you think I should do?

In the last week this has started to happen but upon fussing with the connection like unplugging and replugging in the magnet charger it would start for a while and stop randomly. Now I can not get the computer to charge at all no matter how much I fuss. Do I need a new adapter or is there some other problem?
