MacBook Air :: Airport Connection/Sleep Versus Sleep Display?

Apr 9, 2008

I leave my Air on pretty much all the time, and put it to sleep while moving around etc. Sleeping it disconnect the Airport connection - which if very annoying. At a desk I've just been dimming the display all the way off in order to keep my connection.

However, I recently noticed that by setting a "sleep display" hot corner, my network connection is maintained.

I have 2 questions:
1) Is sleep display equivalent (functionally) to simply dimming the display all the way down?
2) Is there a way to either set up a shortcut to sleep the display (other than a hot corner) and/or set it so that only the DISPLAY sleeps after 'x' minutes?

MacBook Pro :: After Display Sleep Or Computer Sleep On / Login Not On Boot Up

Dec 11, 2014

I have a macbook pro 13" early 2011 and I'm se as shown in the pictures (since i upgraded to os x yosemite) . It happens after display sleep or computer sleep on login not on boot up .I've noticed that i run out of ram when the problem appears (only 15MB RAM available out of 4GB), though i doesn't happen every time . I've talked to service and told me its either motherboard replacement or because the ram isn't enough (gpu shares with main ram) so maybe i should try upgrading ram. URL....

MacBook Pro :: Save To Have Display Sleep But No Computer Sleep?

Jul 12, 2009

I have torrents going all the time. If the computer goes to sleep, the internet disconnects, so they stop. Display sleep wouldn't disconnect though. Is it OK to have computer sleep on "never" but keep display on "15 minutes"? I don't usually even leave the computer on overnight.

OS X :: MBP Won't Automatically Sleep Display Or Go To Sleep?

May 8, 2010

I have a late 2008 15" MBP, and I often leave it playing videos while I go to sleep. Lately, it's stopped sleeping the display and/or going to sleep (depending on whether something's downloading in the background) after the video is finished, which is quite annoying as the screensaver's glare normally wakes me up in the middle of the night (and it's probably not too good for the display either).

Before a few weeks ago, it would quite happily sleep the display a few minutes after the video (in Front Row or otherwise) finished playing, but it's now consistently ignoring the sleep and display sleep settings (which are all correct). I even set the display sleep timer to 1 minute, waited without anything happening in the background, but nothing happens.

Anyone have any idea how to get the timers to work again?

MacBook Air :: Keyboard Trackpad Stops Working After Sleep Mode Ends

Apr 17, 2012

I got a brand new Macbook Air the other week. I noticed that sometimes, after folding the computer (with the OS running), then unfolding it - the keyboard and trackpad are not responding at the login screen. Actually if I press the keyboard it lights up properly but there is no access to the system. The only thing that works is the power button, so every time I have to power down the computer, then back on again.

OS X :: Keyboard Stops Working After Mac Mini Wakes From Sleep?

Aug 8, 2007

I have an obscure brand USB keyboard that I am trying to use with my Mac Mini, with one problem: after the Mini goes to sleep and wakes up again, the keyboard doesn't work. The solution is to either unplug and replug the keyboard or restart, but both are I think unnecessary hassles.

What I like even more is that the keyboard will wake the Mini (by pressing the spacebar or something), but won't work after that.

I also tried a plain ol' Apple keyboard, which works just fine after sleeping/waking.

Any ideas on what's going wrong, or how to fix it without replugging/restarting? It's just a keyboard, so I don't see why it should pose as any real problem after waking, so buying a new keyboard is not quite what I am looking for. I may end up doing it anyways (a wireless one to go with the wireless MX1000 I am using) but at the moment I don't want to spend money for a new keyboard.

It's a 1.66GHz Core Duo, 512MB RAM, 60GB HD, OS X 10.4.10.

Mac :: MacBook Pro New 2010 Display Stuck In Sleep - High Resolution Anti Glare Display

Apr 26, 2010

My brand new 15 inch MacBook Pro was working fine for a week. Today the display went to sleep and when I tried to wake it, it remained dark, items barely visible. I could see the display brightness meter changing, but the brightness did not. Restarting didn't help. Called Apple and they're going to replace the computer. Has this happened to anybody else? Note: I have the hi-res anti-glare display.

MacBook :: Putting Display To Sleep On New With Retina Display?

Jun 16, 2012

I'm used to using the keystrokes control-shift-eject to put the display to sleep without activating the screensaver or putting the whole computer to sleep.

Since the new Macbook Pro with Retina Display lacks an eject key, the best I have been able to do is set a hot corner. I don't like this as much -- especially since it is possible to trigger the hot corner without intending to.

PowerPC :: Unable To Wakeup From Sleep Mode / Light Stops Blinking?

Sep 4, 2006

Tonight I came into my office and my PowerBook was sleeping. I have an external display and I usually turn my display on and wiggle the mouse (after I turn that on) and nothing happened. I looked and my display was still in standby mode, my wacom and eye tv had the same behavior. The powerbook light stopped blinking (I heard the drive wake) and then nothing. Nothing happened still. I opened the lid, hit the power button and still nothing. Held it down, and nothing. I ended up having to take the battery out and then I started the machine. Since then I've rebooted twice just for fun and since then the below screenshot shows that the "Jessica's Computer" window keeps popping up.

Two questions:
#1 What could have happened or what does it mean when the powerbook is sleeping, then wakes but never really wakes and just shuts off?

#2 What is up with that window opening as though this is some sort of start up program you'd find in windows?

Specs: Powerbook 1.67 ghz second to last rev...rev D I think. 1.5 gig ram. os 10.4.7

MacBook Pro :: Sleep Light Doesn't Blink When MBP Left To Sleep?

Oct 10, 2009

I set the MBP to sleep in 10 min through the Energy Saver pref with the option to sleep the hdds. When it's about to sleep the screen dims, then turns black, then the sleep light comes on but does not blink no matter how long I leave it. The blinking only happens when I close the lid or when I select the Sleep option under the Apple logo. Is that normal behavior?

MacBook Pro :: Display Will Not Sleep In My System?

I have set my display to sleep after 10 minutes of inactivity (see screen shot). This has worked up no problems for the life of my MBP (1 year). Now, all of a sudden the display won't sleep. The display remains on, and does not dim either. Restarting the computer causes this feature to function again...then it starts to not sleep after a a few hours (or so).

MacBook Pro :: Goes Into Safe Sleep Instead Of (standard) Sleep

Sep 7, 2014

Recently I've started connecting my 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (pre-unibody) Macbook Pro 17" to an external monitor (via DVI).

Since then my computer goes into Safe Sleep instead of Sleep (it's plugged into power).

This is an annoyance I'd rather avoid because even if all programs relaunch:I have to wait for them to launch (longer)Programs like Excel seem to have been quit in an unorthodox fashion: when it starts back up I get an error notice that it was shutdown inappropriately & the doc which reopens is a rescued version of the doc I had open before the safe sleep.

MacBook Pro :: Display Sleep With Screen Saver?

Sep 22, 2010

I wanted to use a screen saver which is a cool clock since I do not have any alarm clock or anything in my room, and being that my MBP is always on, why not make it a clock when im not using it? I was wondering if it would be detrimental to my screen if I never let the display sleep and leave the black and white clock screen saver on all the time? Would it really make THAT much of a difference to the life of my screen?

MacBook Pro :: New I5 High Resolution MBP Display Won't Sleep?

Apr 26, 2010

I have set my display to sleep even when plugged in and when it is idle for only one minute. The screensaver is set for 5 minutes (after the display sleeps!), but the screensaver always comes on. I can leave my MBP on all night and the screensaver will run all night. This issue is sometimes fixed by a reboot, but then it comes back shortly thereafter. E.g. when I went to bed last night, the screen would sleep. When I left this morning, the screen did not sleep. I only used the computer for ten minutes in between.

MacBook Pro :: Which Display Adapter Works Best For Sleep

Jul 16, 2010

just picked up my new 15" 2.66 MBP w/AGD.

Which Display adapter will work best?

The MiniDisplayport to VGA or

The MiniDisplayport to DVI.

My External Monitor has both inputs.

It's a 22" Widescreen Acer that I got for free.

It's had problems waking from sleep from my old PC, using a DVI cable, but works fine waking from sleep from my work PC notebook, using a VGA cable.. Not sure if this is the issue or not.

I just want the adapter for my MBP that will most likely have fewer issues.

What do you think?

MacBook Pro :: Charging Display Does Not Wake From Sleep?

Mar 31, 2012

I have a 17" MacBook Pro Early 2011. I have noticed some strange behavior when I am charging the laptop.

For whatever reason, when I close the lid and put the machine to sleep, no matter how long the machine has been asleep when I open the lid again the machine wakes up just fine and the login screen shows, and then the display goes right back to sleep. This is not the entire machine - just the display. To wake the display, I have to unplug the Magsafe adapter. The screen comes back immediately after doing this. Plugging the machine back in does not cause the laptop to go back to sleep. All updates have been performed (Software Update gives me no available updates), and other than this issue there are no other problems with the machine. To my immediate knowledge, I don't know when this started, though I do know that it has been intermittent for some time. I was hoping that the firmware updates that came a few weeks ago would fix the issue, but it seems to recently have gotten worse. I cannot pinpoint anything that would be causing this... and environmentally nothing has changed. The laptop is in near perfect condition from when I bought it, I keep it in a sleeve and a padded backpack when I'm not using it.. and unless I have something open that I am still working on I actually shut my laptop down whenever I'm not using it (living in Texas this is a habit I developed due to old laptops being damaged due to the heat build up in a trunk. I don't actually leave my MBP in the car though especially if it is hot out...)

OS X :: Macbook - How To Disable The Main Display Without Sleep Mode

Feb 23, 2010

I'm using my Macbook Pro as a desktop computer. It is connect to my 32" LCD TV through a Mini DisplayPort -> DVI and a DVI -> HDMI cable.
All is working correctly, except that I don't want to use the Macbook display, I just want to disable it.I know I can just turn the brightness all the way down until there's no image, but this method won't properly disable the display.
Another way is to close the Macbook, wait for it to go in sleep mode (white light blinks) and then move the mouse until the screen appears in the TV. This method really disables the main display (it no longer appears in the Displays pannel at System Preferences), but is a lot inconvenient. I don't want to have to close the Macbook everytime I boot my system and don't want to let the Macbook powered on 24/7, even in sleep mode. I like to just turn my computer off and then power it on whenever I need to.

Have a brand new MBP 13" using Thunderbolt-DVI adapter with my old Dell 2405 LCD. Have an interesting scenario ... when the display goes to "sleep" there is still some type of signal coming out of the display port.  The monitor will stay on and just blink "NO SIGNAL DETECTED ON INPUT 2".  But the monitor actually still stays on.When I put the entire laptop to sleep them the monitor will properly power down to sleep mode.

I don't think its the monitor because I've used this monitor with a number of different machines and graphics cards, in every scenario when I had the display set to sleep it powered off just fine.
