Do I need to have Airport to connect to internet with router d-link?

I have a 17 inch MBP OS X Leopard. I had no problems for two years of ownership until yesterday. I could not connect to my router and when I did and it said full bars I still can not go on a website. All it does is wait to connect. So then I noticed that my ethernet cable had the click in tab broken. I bought a new one everything worked fine my mbp and my IMac. Although when I did that it took my mbp a couple minutes to fully function again. About three hours later I had the same issue again. First it got slow, then nothing.
I would open airport it would show that its scanning and finds nothing. I try again, it finds my router connects but no internet. Then it came to the point where it finds my router and I try to connect but no bars show. My IMac works, my ipod touch wifi works, and so does my htc phone. So I am convinced that my mbp has a problem. Also, is it normal for the cd drive to be kind of sticky? I can put the cd in no problem, but when I eject, it sometimes doesn't sometimes only a bit of the cd comes out and I have to grab it and pull it out?
Just got my wireless router (base extreme) connected. There is no problem with connection to my HP netbook and internet works. However, there is no internet connection with my compaq presario notebook but wireless is connected. Does anyone know how i can connect to internet on PC?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat I'm trying to do is set up the apple tvs to be connected to a router that is not connected to the internet, which we'll call Router B.The Mac Mini has all the movies and TV Shows on the iTunes account is hardlined into another router that is connected to the internet, which we'll call Router A.Is it possible to have the Mac Mini hardlined into Router A (to have an internet connection) and simultaneously connected wirelessly to Router B (so the AppleTVs can pull from the Mac Mini iTunes.)?Or vice versa, hardlined into Router B (non internet connection) and Wireless to Router A (internet connection).

I am using this same router from atleast 6~7 months.. was working perfectly few days back though, but suddenly my ISP decided to (so called) upgrade there service... and since then i am not able to fully access few webpages... Youtube is not working... it shows broken links to the pictures and videos never load... Hotmail is not working... inbox opens but all the mails are scrambled... cannot open any mails... facebook is not showing pictures not even thumbnails...
and many other sites have the same issue... i am connecting my router to the ISP through PPPoE using a Username and Password... now the fun part is all these websites are working perfectly through the same router on a Windows PC... through Wireless and even through hard wired... the prob is only with both of my Macs (Macbook-core2duo & Mac Pro)... with both the connecting options...
I currently have a D-Link WBR-1310 802.11g wireless router, which is the only router I have on the network. It is housed in the basement, and I use my computer on the top (third) floor. If I were to buy an Airport Express, would I be able to add it to my existing network while keeping the D-Link? If so, how would I?
View 3 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this is possible, I'm sure there's someone out there who would be able to tell me either way. I've got a D Link router thats plugged into my 50mb in my lounge. I'd like to put my airport express in my kitchen and pair them so its the same network. The reason for this is that I have my HIFI in the kitchen which will be plugged into my airport so I can use it as remote speakers for my itunes while I'm still connected to the 50mb and D Link. Is this possible?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just built a PC that actually works. However, I was really cheap and didn't wanna buy a wireless access card, thinking I could connect to an extra router and use this router to connect to my other router that's network enabled. Is this possible, and if so, how would I go about doing it? I tried googling it, but I dunno what this is called.

I'm running OSX 10.5.8 on a Macbook Pro, and today I've been unable to connect to the internet via ethernet or wi-fi, unless I'm in safe mode. Then everything seems to work as it should, which makes me believe that this is a software issue rather than a hardware problem. I've tried making a new account with administrator priveleges, but that doesn't solve my issue. Does anyone have any advice on how I can connect to the internet under my normal user account, rather than in safe mode? I should note that I won't be able to get my hands on my repair CD or perform a clean install of OSX because that stuff is at home, and I'm in college. Also, I'm at a university and don't have a router. I just use the campus-wide wi-fi. Finally, my roommate has no problem accessing the internet in our room via ethernet or wi-fi, but I do. Thanks for the help everyone.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:
Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).
Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.
Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".
If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.
If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.
Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.
Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a blackbook (intel core 2 duo) and I can connect to my landlord's wireless network (they have a netgear wgt624) but I can't actually use the web (Safari or Firefox will just "think"). I've tested the diagnostics and it confirms that my mac can connect to the network, but it cannot connect to the internet. The network uses WPA personal and it has a 19-aphanumeric passphrase.
*Also - would it be possible for me to extend the wireless range (and make it possible to browse the web) if I used my own 2wire wireless modem to connect to the netgear wgt624?
I recently sold my old MacBook to my brother. He has 2 PCs and 2 iPhones, both of which connect perfectly to the internet through his modem/router (a BT Business Hub). The Mac, on the other hand, just won't connect to the internet. Airport connects to the router, but cannot load any web pages. Connecting by ethernet does not appear to help. This Mac will happily connect to any other router except this one.

There is surrounding routers in my neighborhood so i connected to a other one and it works just fine. I was having the same problem this morning with my desk top which is a PC it said something about my ip address but it repaired itself.

But when i try to do the same on my macbookpro, i cant connect.
I recently changed the router password and now am unable to connect to it. I'm certain that I am putting the right password in and my router is available to connect to but it keeps booting me out. My 2 other macs aren't having any issues connecting to my router. The one that won't connect is a 5 year old macbook. The other two are both 2-3 years old and connected to the internet right away after I put in the password.

I am a new Mac user with a new Mac book pro. The Mac was connecting to wifi until today. Today I added another wifi connection through mifi hauwaei modem. Since then I cannot connect to my old wifi access point. It connects but not getting the Internet or get to the router using 192.168.2.1. I can still connect to my mifi. My iPhone, iPad and other laptops can connect to my old access point with out any issues. I use zyxel router as my old access point.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Air Rev.C 1.86GHz and just yesterday, it stopped connecting to my D-Link wireless router. There have not been any updates applied to the router or the Mac recently, nor have I installed any apps to the Mac either. My iPhone sees and connects to the router fine, as does my MSI netbook, and my TabletPC too. I have turned the router off numerous times in trying to troubleshoot this, and only for a minute or two, does the Mac see the router and connect getting an IP. It then loses the connection shortly after. I have turned off the Mac's Airport a number of times, I have reset the SMB (I think, using the ctrl/shift/option/Power button while off, letting go, then pressing the Power Button only).

I'm looking into purchasing a new wireless router for our home. Basically used for basic Internet and video streaming. We are an apple family, No PC. Looked into the airport extreme but seems kinda pricey for what we need it for. Since we won't ever be gaming or running a server. Which wireless router do you use and how do you like it?
