On the Bestbuy website they market the airport extreme as having the capability to become a range extender and the guy in the store said it would work with a linksys. The Linksys is a WRT150N. I have the airport extreme set-up in my room and it has a solid green light. When I go into the set-up for it I click join network and It sees the linksys and I select it and it says everything is working fine but it stays on the green light and the signal isn't being extended.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo, first time setting up an Airport Express. I had read that the Airport Express can be used as a range extender so I figure I'd give it a shot. Using the Airport Utility, I followed the directions to set it up to "connect to my current wireless network". It found my SSID and I was able to put my password there too. I had named the Airport Express "iqwertyi Extended". Everything looks fine, now my question is, am I suppose to see this SSID?
Or am I only supposed to see the original router "iqwertyi"? The reason I ask is that I don't see the new "iqwertyi Extended" SSID and connecting to the original "iqwertyi" on the other side of the house doesn't seem to have a better connection. I had plugged in the Airport Express in the middle of the house, but not sure if I set this up properly.
I picked up a Time Capsule 500GB and an AirPort Express 802.11n today. I am trying to setup my network as follows.
Time Capsule as base station
AirPort Express as as range extender
I would also like to set up the AirPort Express to use it's ethernet port to provide internet for my DirecTV HR20 HD DVR. I've currently got everything connected and running, and the HR20 gets an IP address, however, it says that there is no internet connection.
I am running ATT DSL Extreme 3.0 and have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. I currently only get wireless in approx. half of my house, and the half in which I don't get it, will be needing it. So I am going to need to buy a range extender or wireless access point? I am a college student so I don't have a large budget, but I am looking for advice. Should I stick with Linksys and just buy one of their range extenders, or should I buy an Airport Extreme and hope the N signal is stronger? I am going to be sharing files soon when I get my Mac Mini HTPC setup going on in the living room to this from my other iMac's and MBP.
In summary, I am just not sure if it would be worth the extra $ for the Airport extreme or if I should just stick with the linksys.
I currently have the netgear router set with an IP address of 192.168.1.1 with DHCP enabled and no security set up (i originally had WEP enabled but this made the problem worse.
I then have two sitecom range extenders set up connected to the router wirelessly to extend the signal in opposite directions. One is set up with an IP address of 192.168.1.2 and the other 192.168.1.3 with default gateway set at 192.168.1.1 and DHCP disabled. This sets the network up working for a short time however as soon as more than one machine tries to connect to the network it all shuts down. It seems that the setup cannot assign IP addresses to more than machine at a time.
I have Mac computers, and have a wireless connection using a standard O2 router. I'm just about to build the office/studio in the garden and I need an internet connection here, but the O2 box hasn't got the range. It's about 100ft between the router and the hot seat with a wall and some planting in the way. My question is this: Will an Airport Extreme base station give me more range than the O2 box? Will an Airport Extreme work with O2? Would I be better off laying an Ethernet cable along with the rest of the electrics all the way up to the studio and do away with the Wireless idea? Can a (approx) 100ft Ethernet cable give me a decent signal or is that just too long?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a DrayTek Vigor 2800G wireless router which is connected to my phone line. I would like to use an Airport Express in the living room to connect to my stereo system in order to share my iTunes library from my Macbook. Therefore, is it possible to connect the Airport Express to the DrayTek router over wireless rather than a network cable? Or is a hard connection required?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a home network where all devices (various Macbook pros, xbox, ps3, pc's, etc.) connect wirelessly via airport extreme: works great. I am trying to connect an ipod touch from a distance of about 75 feet, and although it will connect, it drops the signal now and again (signal strength goes from 1 bar to no bars). I have this older dell "Wireless 2350 Broadband Router" and I am wondering if I could add this either in a wired or wireless configuration to repeat the base station signal (i.e., to extend the range of the network). I know that I could just run out and buy an airport express to accomplish this, but I'd like to see if I could "recycle" the dell router first. Whatever I do, I don't want to muck up the primary network in the process.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHaving just noticed there is a new range of macbook air ,i am more than slightly annoyed .I bought mine last week and was not informed by the apple store staff of the forthcoming range or i would have waited, i realize its a business but it has spoiled my entry to the mac world !Anything i can do about this to tell Apple how hacked off i am. I spent a lot over £1150 + applecare for a new macbook and ONE WEEK later its superseded.Â

Because that would make or break the purchase for me, if the USB cable is still as small as it is.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a 2006 Intel iMac (Running 10.6.1)that is not seeing my wireless routers (D-Link 628 and Time Capsule Dual-channel). The D-Link is downstairs. It is not in the best place, but at my only option. My Macbook Pro sees the D-link fine on the same desk as the iMac. I replaced the D-Link with the Time Capsule and the iMac doesn't even see that. If I bring it close (completely underneath the desk) to the iMac it will see both routers. The weird part is before a hard drive crash and replacement it worked fine (I know, I know something is amiss from the replacement).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just built a PC that actually works. However, I was really cheap and didn't wanna buy a wireless access card, thinking I could connect to an extra router and use this router to connect to my other router that's network enabled. Is this possible, and if so, how would I go about doing it? I tried googling it, but I dunno what this is called.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI recently sold my old MacBook to my brother. He has 2 PCs and 2 iPhones, both of which connect perfectly to the internet through his modem/router (a BT Business Hub). The Mac, on the other hand, just won't connect to the internet. Airport connects to the router, but cannot load any web pages. Connecting by ethernet does not appear to help. This Mac will happily connect to any other router except this one.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some reason when i try to open firefox its says page cannot be found. The signal is very strong and it says its connected. There is surrounding routers in my neighborhood so i connected to a other one and it works just fine. I was having the same problem this morning with my desk top which is a PC it said something about my ip address but it repaired itself.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy router gateway address is 192.168.1.254 and i can access it via my windows pc by keying in the ip address in IE/Firefox.
But when i try to do the same on my macbookpro, i cant connect.
I recently changed the router password and now am unable to connect to it. I'm certain that I am putting the right password in and my router is available to connect to but it keeps booting me out. My 2 other macs aren't having any issues connecting to my router. The one that won't connect is a 5 year old macbook. The other two are both 2-3 years old and connected to the internet right away after I put in the password.

I am a new Mac user with a new Mac book pro. The Mac was connecting to wifi until today. Today I added another wifi connection through mifi hauwaei modem. Since then I cannot connect to my old wifi access point. It connects but not getting the Internet or get to the router using 192.168.2.1. I can still connect to my mifi. My iPhone, iPad and other laptops can connect to my old access point with out any issues. I use zyxel router as my old access point.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook Air Rev.C 1.86GHz and just yesterday, it stopped connecting to my D-Link wireless router. There have not been any updates applied to the router or the Mac recently, nor have I installed any apps to the Mac either. My iPhone sees and connects to the router fine, as does my MSI netbook, and my TabletPC too. I have turned the router off numerous times in trying to troubleshoot this, and only for a minute or two, does the Mac see the router and connect getting an IP. It then loses the connection shortly after. I have turned off the Mac's Airport a number of times, I have reset the SMB (I think, using the ctrl/shift/option/Power button while off, letting go, then pressing the Power Button only).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 17 inch MBP OS X Leopard. I had no problems for two years of ownership until yesterday. I could not connect to my router and when I did and it said full bars I still can not go on a website. All it does is wait to connect. So then I noticed that my ethernet cable had the click in tab broken. I bought a new one everything worked fine my mbp and my IMac. Although when I did that it took my mbp a couple minutes to fully function again. About three hours later I had the same issue again. First it got slow, then nothing.
I would open airport it would show that its scanning and finds nothing. I try again, it finds my router connects but no internet. Then it came to the point where it finds my router and I try to connect but no bars show. My IMac works, my ipod touch wifi works, and so does my htc phone. So I am convinced that my mbp has a problem. Also, is it normal for the cd drive to be kind of sticky? I can put the cd in no problem, but when I eject, it sometimes doesn't sometimes only a bit of the cd comes out and I have to grab it and pull it out?
Do I need to have Airport to connect to internet with router d-link?

I've updated my wireless rounter and also decided to not have it broadcast the network.I can connect to the router no problem by using the option "connect to other network".I also have the box checked that says, remember this network, but my macbook doesn't automatically reconnect after it sleeps or when I turn it off. Would love to understand how to make my macbook automatially reconnect so I don't have to go through the extra steps of reloggin on each time.

The wireless network I want to join runs through a Wnet R300 router with a 3.5G simcard wireless internet connection. My MacBook will not connect, while all other devices (Kindle, Nokia phone, Mac Mini, etc.) will. I have changed the wireless security on the router from WEP to WPA2 and still no luck. What settings do I need to change?Â

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a WD Mybook Essential Edition external hard drive that is dedicated to the Mac that I am trying to connect through USB to my Linksys router (WRT 610N).
I have spent no less than 14 hours on the phone with Linksys, can't get through to Western Digital, and Applecare tells me they don't work with PC hardware.
So I'm trying to connect my MBP to my new Belkin Double N+ (F6D6230uk4) router. I have 2.4 ghz set to b/g and 5 ghz set to n and 20/40hz bandwidth. Last night, when I connected to the router for the first time, I was showing 300mbps, when you Options+click the Airport icon. However, now I'm only showing 145mbps. To be fair, I may have changed a few settings between now and then, but I have no idea how I was able to get 300mbps before. It's as though it's only connecting to one channel, instead of two, which is required for 300mpbs I think?

I just bought a terabyte Time Capsule to take care of backups and files with my new Macbook pro, without me thinking about this stuff at all anymore, that is the Time Capsule concept, right?
When I try to set up Time Machine it asks wether I want Time Capsule to work as wireless internet router. Where Im living at the moment, I am connected to a wireless internet system, but I dont have access to the router, or access to use Time Capsule as internet router either, I want to maintain using the wireless internet, and Time Capsule as wireless hard drive only.
