MacBook Pro :: Cannot Find Install Disk That Came With Computer
Jun 1, 2012
I have a 6 yr old macbook pro that I want to give to my son.I cannot find the install disk that came with the computer, but I do have snow leopard. Can you help me erase my information and install SL?
I am going to install a new SSD drive on my MBP mid-2009. After it is installed, can I then start up computer and then insert the DVD Install operating system disk, or do I install the DVD install disk, then shut down computer and swap the HD drive? I know that I will reformat the disk when Installer begins, but I want to know if the computer will recognize the install disk with a new blank HD in place.
installing an SSD in my mac pro 1.01 of 2007 afterrestarting the mac I went out one with a question mark with the famous gray screen, and I do not recognize any system disk.
this isn't an isolated issue - there are threads about this over at Apple and InsanelyMac: I'm unable to install Snow Leopard. When I run the installer, it'll tell me that "Mac OS X cannot be installed on "Macintosh HD", because this disk cannot be used to start up your computer" (Macintosh HD being my OS X volume, obviously). I'm seeing this issue on a relatively new 1.8ghz Macbook Air with a 128gb SSD - however, as far as I can tell from the other threads, the problem also affects iMacs and Macbooks.
Some people apparently attributed the issue to a PGP installation they had on their harddrive. Others found a file called backup.backupdb in their root - deleting it fixed the problem. However, most people don't have any of that installed on their computers and the upgrade still won't work. - if anyone has found a solution to the issue, please let me know :-( I'm stuck here. I don't have an external drive for the MBA and booting from a network drive has never worked on this particular machine - so I can't do a clean install, either.
I am trying to upgrade from leopard to snow leopard on my MacBook Pro. However, every time I insert the install disk, the machine whirs for a moment, and then ejects the disk with no error message. I tested my drive with a different dvd and it works just fine. All of my other software is up to date.
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2009), Mac OS X (10.5.8)
I've download a Seagate Diagnostics programme to check whether my external Seagate FreeAgent Desk is working properly or not. However, when I run the programme, it indicates that cannot find the disk.
I've previously installed OSX on my MBA using an external DVD, using a wifi remote disc option, but because of my current network situation (and current lack of external disc drive) I'm wondering if it would be possible to install OSX on the Air through a direct ethernet connection to another Mac.
Basically it would go like this: MBP <> ethernet cable <> USB ethernet adaptor <> MBA
Possible? Any problems? Any special procedures I need?
I decided to get a USB cable for the Canon MP650 I bought yesterday. I connected it, aligned the head and printed out a test page and it looks ok.
I used the disk that came with the printer and it said everything was installed successfully. Do I need a driver? That should be on the disk, right?
I'm using an iMac OS X v 10.5.8
I wanted to print a test photo, so I clicked on One-Click Photo Print and received an error message: The operation cannot be continued because a printer supporting Photo Print is not installed.
I clicked on System Preferences-Print & Fax, and there's nothing there. I clicked the + sign and in the window that opened, there's nothing listed there either. Why is installing a printer like operating the space shuttle?
I have recently done a Time machine back up of my MB Pro 15" then wiped my hard drive trying to clean it up so I could install Windows 7 with Boot Camp. I had my original Install Disk which I forgot was Tiger, Having used one of my brothers company licenses to upgrade to Leopard but that disk is now with him in another country. So now I can not restore from my Time Machine backup. I have a Leopard Install disk for a Macbook Pro 13" which I also own. Is it possible to use this disk to re-install Leopard on my 15"?
I am looking for iMovie in my computer, and I can't find it anywhere. I have used it before, but I can't find it in applications or finder. I know it can be purchased from the Apple Store for $15, but I know it comes with the computer. How might I find this application?
I want to know how to find out what is the max amount of ram my computer can actually take advantage of, rather than tell you my model and you tell me what is the max because I know it varies according to the model of the Computer
here is my model: Macbook(13-inch, Mid 2010 [unibody]) basically the latest version of the white macbook.
i have been using an external HD for a while now, i was using it today and it was working fine, then out of the middle of nowhere, i get this message: "disk insertion" the disk you inserted was not readable by theis computer....i run disk utility and get this message:[URL]can someone please give me some advice, i have a ton of important stuff on this HD!
So i put the OSX disk in (10.3) and when i make it boot from the disk the mac logo pops up then it shifts a quarter inch to the right and freezes. I then tried booting it normally and pressed the install button now it boots off the CD automatically with the same result and can't be turned off. Is there an emergency disk remove thing for a powerbook G4? And is there a way to reformat my computer without the disk?
I recently changed ISPs and installed a new modem. I used to be able to print to a windows computer connected to a canon printer (using gutenprint driver). Now, I can't connect to any shared folders and am unable to print to the shared computer - Printers and Faxes can't find the network computer.
We have a macbook and a mac mini. I just replaced the stock macbook hdd with a 500gb WD drive no problem. Also, I have a time machine backup on an external hdd ready. The problem is I cannot find my OS X dvd anywhere. However, I did find my OSX DVD for my mac mini. Still, when I turn on the macbook all I see is a folder blinking with a question mark in it. Doesn't seem to work, but I have almost zero mac savvy. How can I get my OS installed tonight?
I'm fairly Technical, I just can't seem to figure this one out. I own a 13 Inch Macbook with the stock 120 GB HD. It was purchased this past September 2008. I bought a new HD from Newegg. Here is the link to the HD. [URL]
I read the reviews, and more than 20 reviews I read said this HD worked perfectly in their Macbook. -So I received the HD yesterday -I put it inside my laptop -I put in the OSX install CD -I powered up and held down C and booted into OSX Installer -From the menu I selected Disk Utility but the hard drive does not show up as listed hard drives
After all attempts failed, I put the disk in my windows machine as an extra sata drive, and it booted perfectly fine, so I know the disk is ok. Some other thoughts? -The difference between the stock and new HD is size and also 1.5 GB vs 3.0 GB Transer rate -Does my Macbook need a firmware upgrade - I doubt this, but just a thought -Does the Macbook not recognize unformatted disks - I doubt this too.
I can't find the disk drive on my macbook pro. I think it was accidentally drug into a folder, but can't find it anywhere. how to locate this? The macbook will still play movies, but if I go to look for the drive, I can't locate it anywhere.
I have an aluminum macbook that is abou a year and a half old. It is making a weird scratching noise every few minutes. It sounds like I have DVD spinning in my disk drive and I am moving the laptop around. There is no disk in it so I am worried it's coming from my HD. Any ideas on what I should do?
I do not have my mac book pro with me right now? I need the serial number to contact apple customer care. Is there any way I can get that number? Can I use iTunes for searching it?
I have a Mac Pro early 2009. On the original start up disk (1 TB) I have Snow Leopard. I have a 2 TB disk also installed on the same machine. I want to upgrade the machine to Lion and have everything end up on the 2 TB disk as the start up disk. I was then planning on reformatting the original start up disk and use it for Windows 7 in Boot Camp.
Changing my internal hardrive, but I can't figure out carbon copy cloner (link to other thread). I can't find the target disk, but when I go to system profiler, I see the newly installed hard drive.
My son has a MacBook, but the optical drive is broken. The HD needs repairing from the disc. How do I repair his disc using the Installation CD on my MacBookPro.?
I have tried restarting his computer while pressing: command C, also optionC, furthermore option-command-C and alternatively using D instead of C, but it restarts in the administrators password window....
And on mine, I have opened migration assistant and put in the disc so its readable to my computer...
It seems I have 2 problems. The rebooting on the C-D letters don't seem to work, and is it with the migration assistant that I can hel repair the disc?
i have tried to re-install leopard into my macbook but it is just all a mess. i inserted leopard cd (original copy) into macbook to do a clean install to my new(to me) used macbook. the computer message after choosing language says "cannot install mac osx on this computer".
1. used disk utility to reapair disk...did no work 2. erased hd..still did not work. 3. made partition to install from external hd...now just made a total mess with computer. 4.i try to start computer from dvd drive with original leopard cd...still does not work. says cannot install mac osx to this computer...
