MacBook Pro :: Printers And Faxes Cannot Find Network Computer
Feb 8, 2009
I recently changed ISPs and installed a new modem. I used to be able to print to a windows computer connected to a canon printer (using gutenprint driver). Now, I can't connect to any shared folders and am unable to print to the shared computer - Printers and Faxes can't find the network computer.

We have 4 Macs in the office and a bank of 4 printers all of which have been working great and connecting together for a while with no issues. However in the last few days the iMac can't find 2 of the printers. We tried to reload them through Print and Scan preferences but they didn't appear in the preferences. Checked all the cabling and hub and everything seems OK. Booted the iMac in Safe Mode and it could see them both straight away, rebooted the iMac and again they did not appear in the list, Tried to share one of the printers from a MacPro and it appeared in the list however sometimes it just won't print to it, it seems to print but nothing appears at the printer. Since then we have reinstalled Mavericks, Verified and Repaired Permissions, Verified the HD, reset the PRAM, all to no avail.
Apart from that the iMac prints to the other printers on the network without any problem and connects to the other Macs with no problems as well. We're using 10.9.4 on a 2.7GHz iMac with 8GB of memory. The other Macs can all see and print to all the printers. We are using a wired ethernet connection, not wireless.

For some reason I'm not aware of, I cannot send faxes from my computer. I've checked the settings in system prefs and they all look OK. The modem sounds when connecting to send, then the fax is stopped; no alert, nor an explanation telling me something is wrong. Each time I want to fax a document I get the same result: no fax goes out; the fax list shows the job was stopped and put on hold till a later time. After resuming, the fax still does not go through. The settings in Print and Fax are supposedly correct: all jobs are to be sent using internal modem (driver version 1.0; PPD file version 1.0).
The document I need to fax shows in the print dialog window that it will use the internal modem, it will not wait for dialing tone (not alwayws, see below), will use tone dialing, with the sound on.After starting the job, sound comes on and I can hear the modem dialing, the fax status in the menu bar shows "connecting" for some time, then there is no more sound, and the job stops.I've tried faxing to a different number, and the same thing happens. There is something I've noticed that may have a lot to do with the problem:When the modem starts, "the modem could not detect a dial tone" shows up, although I've unchecked "Wait for dial tone before dialing."Fax and internal modem icons show an exclamation point. The Fax List window shows the internal modem stopped. The Internal Modem window show no active jobs; the document I've tried unsuccessfully to fax shows in completed jobs.
If I try to resume faxing while in the Internal Modem window, the Stop Jobs icon is highlighted with a red exclamation point. Cannot even delete the "stopped job."Sys Prefs>Print & Fax>Fax tab>Set up Fax Modem... button, gives me a Fax list Window where I can highlight it there & Start/Stop jobs shows; double clicking on the name will open another WindowThis window shows Delete, Hold, and Resume icons grayed out, therefore they are non-functioning.Only Start Jobs is fully shown, but clicking on it brings back the Stop Jobs icon.
I?ve tried resetting the printing system in Mac OS X 10.4.11I tried reinstalling OS 10.4.11 combo update as a last resort in order to see whether it would correct the problem.Tried sending another fax to my office but it didn't go through.Again, it shows as a stopped job in the "internal modem" window saying it could not detect a dial tone. This "dial tone detection" alert also shows when:1 - sending a fax from an application such as TexEdit, in the pull down modem window and it does not matter whether I deselect it; it just keeps on showing again. The modem shown on this window is "Internal Modem" and there is an exclamation mark next to the name;2 - looked at modem settings probably in system prefs (I forget exactly where) and deselected it but it keeps showing when setting up the document to fax.I know the modem shouldn't be "paused." It should be "idle" but:? Clicking on "set up fax modem" in system prefs brings the fax list up where Internal modem shows "stopped", not "idle." This window shows "Delete", "Show info", and "Start Jobs" after having deleted the fax which I was not able to send.? The fax list of Internal modem shows all faxes I've tried to send as "cancelled" and this list is not editable.
? If I try to resume faxing while in the Internal Modem window, the "Stop Jobs" icon is highlighted with a red exclamation point. Cannot even delete the "stopped jobs" from before the OSX re-installation.
? Also before the re-installation, only "Start Jobs" was fully shown, but clicking on it brought back the "Stop Jobs" icon.In any case, things keep being pretty much as they were before the re-installation.Does anything above tell you what is going on? I wonder what is going on here and whether someone has a clue about it and how to overcome the glitch.iMac 2GHz power PC G5; Mac OS X (10.4.11); 250GB HD; 300GB and 160GB FW external drives; HP Deskjet 6988 printer; Epson Perfection 1260 scanner

My macbook air 2013 with OS X 10.9.3 will not find any wireless printers. I've tried to add printers at a number of different locations and each time it fails to find any printers despite one's being online and fully functional. I am able to print from my iPhone on these networks to the wireless printers but my macbook air won't find any at all? The macbook air is online using the wifi network no problem - just won't find any printers.

I have recently freshly installed Leopard and upgraded to 10.5.8 before attempting to print on my Mac Pro.
When I tried to add my printers it found nothing. I also have a Mini on 10.5.8, on which I deleted both printers and they were both located and added straight away.
Having spent the afternoon searching for answers, about the only hint was to change to a static IP, rather than use DHCP. After doing so, one of my printers showed up immediately, but then OS X could not resolve what drivers to use. It still didn't find the second printer.
We have four 10.5.8 Macs and two 10.4.x Macs on the network. All except the Pro are happily using both printers, so it must be something dodgy on my Pro, just no idea what.
I've got the firewall set to allow everything and I've got print sharing turned on. All the Macs and printers are on the same subnet.
Edit: I should add that the printers' web interfaces are fully accessible, and of course they ping fine.

I have a network with an Airport Extreme Base Station. I have two Macs connected by ethernet and an Iomega MiniMax hard drive connected to the base station by USB port. I have been running two printers, an HP Laserjet 1012 and Samsung CLP-315, connected by USB cables to the MiniMax hub. This setup has been running fine for several months. Yesterday, with no change in cabling, the printers stopped working. If I try to print to either printer, I get a message saying, "looking for printer..." If I connect either printer directly to the base station, I get the same message. If I connect the printers directly to either computer by USB cable, they both print fine. What can I do to get my original setup back working? I have tried restarting all the various components and reconnecting all the cables. I have checked to make sure I have the latest drivers for the printers.

My computer will not acknowledge the two printers I use, a MFC-9840cdw or the HP B8550. It says both printers are offline. I have tried to reload drivers, and tried the other troubleshooting options. Nothing has worked. The evening that it quit communicating there was a big thunderstorm, but I had turned my computer off. The next morning the imac was not acknowledging the printers.

I have a MacBookPro that I use in my room connected through ethernet. I am at university and they have only allow one machine to connect to their wi-fi that is available across campus, through mac address filtering. I also have an iPhone which I would love to use wi-fi on, at least while I am in my room lounging around and such. Anyway, the point being, can I use my MBP (connected through LAN) to act as a router so that my iPhone can connect to it? Essentially create a wireless network, so iPhone would find it and I could go online on it via wi-fi?
I tried going on Airport and clicking on "Create a network" (w/o a password), but I get an error saying "There was an error creating our Computer-to-Computer network." It doesn't say much else -- is there a better way of doing this?

I purchased a MacBook Pro today. I have an iMac. I connect to the Internet via a NetGear wireless router. My son has an xBox that also connects to the Internet this way.
However, I cannot find the network when I started setting up my MacBook. I rescanned several times and couldn't find it. There were other networks from the neighborhood but not mine.
I tried going into Other Networks. I checked the name of the network on my son's xBox and I checked the name and password via Key Chain Access. I was also able to get the password from Key Chain. I tried both network names as well as the password but it wouldn't work. I tried again when Network Configuration asked me if I wanted to access a closed network but no dice.

My company uses a network drive attached to our router. I can connect to the drive fine, but only after a fresh reboot. If I turn on off the MBP or hibernate it, when it boots back up it tells me it can't find the network drive. Trying to reconnect to the network or turning airport on and off doesn't work. I have a mac mini that i never shut off that never loses connection, only the laptops.

I recently had to have my Macbook Unibody screen replaced. After they replaced the screen, they forgot to install the airport card. They had to take the computer back and replace the airport card. Now every time I turn on the airport card it literally takes like a minute to find any networks. That doesn't seem like a long time but next time you open your macbook see how long it takes to find networks. What should I do? Also when ever I click on the airport logo it says it is constantly scanning. Even when i am connected to a network.

I have just bought a macbook, my internet connection at home is wireless however it requires the IP address of each computer using the wireless network to be entered into my wireless account, just an extra security measure. My new macbook has never been connected to the internet as I can not find the IP address I have tried applications/utlities/network utility and there is just a blank space where it says IP address. I have also tried System prefences/network and there is no IP address there either.

Never posted here before, I have searched around for awhile but I cannot find any answer for this. I have upgraded to 10.6.3 from a remote drive but I wanted to perform a clean install of this software to ready my MBA for sale, I have followed the instructions for clean installing but when I get to the part where I have to select a wireless network to join, my wireless network does not appear even though I was just connected to it before restarting the MBA.
I have been trying to figure this out for over a week and I really don't want to sell it without having a clean install.

I accidentally set up a computer to computer network and I cannot figure out how to make it go away. I also tried to password protect it, to at least lock it down, but the password is removed from the network as soon as someone logs on (and doesn't require a password to do so). Something is fishy, to say to least. I was told to go into my preferences (through Library) but I don't know what to make of the omnioutliner files. How do I get rid of this network?

I decided to get a USB cable for the Canon MP650 I bought yesterday. I connected it, aligned the head and printed out a test page and it looks ok.
I used the disk that came with the printer and it said everything was installed successfully. Do I need a driver? That should be on the disk, right?
I'm using an iMac OS X v 10.5.8
I wanted to print a test photo, so I clicked on One-Click Photo Print and received an error message: The operation cannot be continued because a printer supporting Photo Print is not installed.
I clicked on System Preferences-Print & Fax, and there's nothing there. I clicked the + sign and in the window that opened, there's nothing listed there either. Why is installing a printer like operating the space shuttle?

I'm a dude that can't speak and needs a way to talk to people that only have a fax or phone number. I originally didn't even know Mac osx could do that. Do I just unhook my land line and plug it into my laptop and go to the printer/fax option? Would that work or do I need a designated fax number? I'm running OSX 10.4.11.
