MacBook :: Speaker Clicking When Sound Is Mute?

Jul 21, 2009

Whenever my MacBook's sound is on mute and the computer wants to play a sound, the speaker has this little click noise.

For example, I mute the sound and go to trash a file. It trashes normally, but at the beginning, the speakers click (almost like they want to play that empty trash noise, but cannot because it is mute).

MacBook Aluminum :: Speaker Popping On 2.4 GHz When Sound Mute?

Sep 9, 2009

I have been having this issue forever and want to do something about it now. Whenever the sound is mute on my notebook, and there should be sound playing (Ex.: Startup Chime), instead I get a LOUD pop noise. I understand the whole thing with the sound chip powering down to save battery life, but that requires the speakers to be un-muted. In my case, they are mute, and never get un-muted. What do you guys think. Logic Board/Speaker System Replacement?

Hardware :: Mute Button Changed To Screen Rotation Lock

Mar 12, 2010

Apple revealed a minor tweak to the iPad hardware when preorders began Friday morning, with a button previously designated for audio muting changed to a "screen rotation lock." As first noticed by Jim Dalrymple at The Loop, the switch, located just above the volume controls on the right side of the device, is now devoted to locking the screen orientation in its current state. Previously, the switch was used to mute the iPad. One of the features Apple has touted with the iPad is that it can be used from any orientation the user sees fit. The new feature will prevent users from having the screen rotate unexpectedly as they use the device while browsing the Web, reading an e-book, or accomplishing any other task on the 9.7-inch screen. "There isn't even a single orientation," Jony Ive, senior vice president of design with Apple, said in the iPad's initial promotional video. "There's no up, there's no down, there's no right or wrong way of holding it. I don't have to change myself to fit the product. It fits me."

Like with the iPhone and iPod touch, the internal accelerometer of the iPad automatically adjusts the display to fit the orientation by which the user is holding the device. The iPad allows even more functionality than with the previous products, granting users the ability to turn the iPad completely upside down, with the home button up top, if they so choose. Because the iPad has a focus on reading e-books and newspapers, many users will undoubtedly use the device as they would a physical book or newspaper -- objects that are sometimes read by users laying on their side. The screen rotation lock would prevent the device from shifting as a user moves around. Additional physical inputs on the device are the on/off and sleep/wake button, volume up/down controls, and the home button. Apple began accepting preorders for the iPad Friday morning. Purchases for the device, scheduled to ship April 3 for the WiFi-only model, are limited to two per customer. [View this article at]

MacBook Pro :: Intermittent Whine / Sound Right Above Power Button

Sep 18, 2008

For a while now, I've been getting a strange whine out of my mbp core duo right above the power button. I don't believe it's the common "whine" others have complained about as I've tried brightening the screen/turning on the camera. Tapping on the case will stop the sound for a bit, but it soon returns. The sound comes and goes, but in incredibly irritating.

I have a sample here. You may need to turn up the volume to hear it. Yesterday I replaced the right side fan, but the sound is back. Now I'm thinking it's the speaker, but don't want to spend more money on parts unless I'm relatively confident of the problem.

MacBook Air :: Trackpad Click/Button Not Always Working?

Just bought my MBA about a month ago. Recently it started doing something weird, mostly on the dock icons.

Sometimes when I go to click on an icon, it doesn't do anything, regardless of whether I am clicking, double clicking, or pushing the button below the trackpad. I end up having to move the cursor off of the icon and back on once or twice before it will let me click.

MacBook Pro :: Power Button Not Working After HDD Replacement?

May 22, 2010

Ok. so my MBP was working 2 days ago and I went to Fry's to replace the HD with a 640GB model thinking larger storage - win. Replaced in and the orange ribbon cable got disconnected between the keyboard and the logic board. Went frantic and after a visit to the Apple Genius, they plugged it back and thought i was fine. Nope, and now the unit won't turn on. Plugged it in and got the green light and battery charges, but the MBP won't power on. I made sure the HD was plugged in securely, the orange ribbon connected fine, and the power button cable was secure. The drive worked fine as I did a superduper transfer of the old data to the new drive the night before the crisis and it worked fine.

MacBook Pro :: New SSD Installed - Power Button Not Working

Jun 28, 2012

After 1.5 years of use, my hard drive suddenly failed. This was later confirmed by Apple Genius Bar.So I purchase a new SSD from OWC which was instructed to be compatible with my laptop model (MBP 13" early 2011).It arrived today and I did the installation carefully and successfully. However, after putting the back panel back in place I was unable to power up my laptop.

It was as if the power button is not working. Then I opened up the back panel one more time to realise that every time I click the power button (turn on), the fan started running, this can only be stopped by pressing the power button and held it (turn off).I tried placing my old hard drive and it doesn't work as well.I tried reset the SMC by holding power-shift-option but same result.

MacBook Air :: Red X Button And Command W Working Interchangeably

Sep 3, 2014

When i hit the red x button on mac, it actually quits the application and doesn't restore any work i was doing, be it apps like pages and neither does it restore my last opened sessions on safari. However when i press command q, it should in normal cases close the application, however when i do that now it restores my previously active sessions.

In simple words both functions are working opposite to each other:

Red x- should merely 'minimise' the app and should restore previous active sessions but is not

Command w- should close the app but is instead restoring previous sessions

MacBook Air :: Caps Lock And Mouse Button Not Working?

Aug 21, 2008

I've had my MBA 1.8 since the beginning. Just recently my my caps lock and mouse pad button doesn't work:

1. Caps lock
It technically does work, but I have to press the dang thing like 4 or 5 times until the green dot lights up on it

2. Mouse pad button
This also technically does work, but not properly. It is currently semi-broke. It's hard for me to explain in words. So I'll will try my best here. It's almost like a teeter-totter, I.E. the bar is never level. One side is always raised and the other is always lowered. If I click on the raised part of the mouse pad, it will make a clicking sound

I do not currently have apple care, but still have some time left to purchase it.
