MacBook Pro :: Adding A Webmail Account?
Jun 13, 2012
I have a webmail account. It used to appear in my mail as its own separate mail box location (like 'on my mac' or 'icloud')
I had a whole set of folders set up for my emails in relation to that account.
I had trouble with that account last week and had to 'reload' the account and now all the folders have disappeard.
I am sure I have done something wrong in re-loading the mail account

what is the best browser to use on Mac OS X Lion if I need to access Webmail (OWA) and use features like "Mark as Unread" that are not available in Safari? Some basic features are just not available to Safari users, but I'm hoping they'd be avilable from other browsers.

I was thinking about adding a standard account for day-to-day use for security reasons, but before I do that I have a question. -There is a checkbox under the standard account I created in the accounts menu that says: "Allow user to administrate the computer" What does that mean exactly? Am I giving it full administration rights?

Is there a way to set up e-mail accounts in my Mac mail that allow me to "send only" from them? For example, I have a couple e-mail accounts that I only use for commercial / e-commerce communication (airline tickets, eBay transactions, etc), but am otherwise not interested in setting up as an inbox because they simply flood with spam.
Is there a way to set up Mail so that I can choose to send a message as me@xxxxx.com (rather than me@mac.com); WITHOUT adding an inbox for this account?

I am wanting to add a new user group with an ID of 1000, and move my main account into that group, then update everything that has the old GID with the new one. This is so that I can share files easier with another UNIX system I use without having to tweak the permissions for each file. I've done quite a bit of searching in the past couple days, but all I can seem to come up with are old, outdated instructions that don't work on OS X anymore.

I recently bought my first iMac [first mac anything] to replace an ancient PC that was driving me nuts with slow internet browsing. I have the i7 2.8Ghz. As expected, everything has been lightening fast on my new imac, with the exception of navigation on Webmail accessed through Safari. Even my ancient slow poke PC/Internet Explorer was faster zipping through Webmail than my imac/Safari has been. This is proving to be hugely annoying and problematic since I spend a lot of time accessing my work mail/document attachments/calendar when working from home, now on my imac. Is there a setting or something that can be adjusted to speed up webmail navigation? It literally takes about 10 seconds for anything I do on webmail to respond. This will not work.

Can only access webmail from server.local. Can't access it from static LAN IP or WAN IP, however. Instead I get the standard "Webmail is turned off" page. It is probably a simple thing but I have yet to find much of any documentation nor discussion - I've looked.

When I try to save any address in the webmail addressbook, it says "An Error Occured while saving." It's probably a permissions problem with the addressbook database RoundCube uses, but I'll be darn if I can find it...

I've set up my mail accounts (me.com, and live.co.uk) and am sending and recieving emails just fine, however old emails were never imported over. How can I import all the emails in my webmail so that they show up in Mail? Its irritating having to sign-into my webmail to read an older email (I only set up Mail 3 days ago).

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and Office for Mac 2008 (Student Edition). I am trying to setup my university email (web based) on Entourage and it says I cannot have an exchange email (or something along these lines). I was told to download "EWS-1304-EN.dmg", but when I get to "Select a Destination", the following message is displayed: "Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition can't be installed on this disk. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume."

I bought this new MacBook Pro a month ago. When I try logging into my guest account, it froze. I had no other alternative but to get out of it by pressing the power button. Then I tried open a new user account to see if it also has the same problem. Unfortunately it did have the same problem - froze after I logged in. I had done a harddisk check, there seemed to be no problem.

MacBook Pro 15" mid 2009..After my 2 year old had a tantrum and threw a toy at my Mac which unfortunately had a drink next to it-with a consequential spillage-my MacBook is rebelling.
Issue: keys Cap lock, R and 4 do not work and Mac boots only in safe mode. Account is pw protected-my pw begins with R and have no guest a/c active. Do i need a new keyboard or is there a cheaper way?

I have the Alum 2.4 Ghz MBP and I want to max out the amount of ram it holds. It already has 2gigs and I've heard that it can hold a max of 4gigs () And was wondering is it worth upgrading just 2gigs? Will there be a difference is speeds? I also plan on buying SL while I am at it. Yes I am in the upgrade performance mood for my MBP. And unlike a PC you can't really improve the performance to much other than the ram. Also, can I buy some ram on newegg or does it have to be the overpriced Apple ram? Also can I mix ram types? Since it already has 2gigs can I just buy 2 more gigs of a diff brand but same type?

I'm running an older 24 inch cinema display on my MBP and am looking to add second 24 inch monitor for use in FCP. My only cheap option seems to be a USB gizmo, something like this [URL]. Anyone have any experience with this device, specifically with FCP 6; I'd like to use the second monitor to playback the footage in the viewer so I don't think the device needs too much horse power but the footage will be in the ProRes 422 format.

after trying them out at the Apple Store, I find myself somewhat interested in the new 13" MBA (w/4 GB RAM) primarily because of its lightness, overall speed increase and the "instant-on" and power standby features.Aside from the obvious difference in weight, processor (2.4 vs 1.86) and connectivity options, is the MBA's speed difference vs my MBP purely due way, if I simply added an OWC SSD to my MBP, would my MBP then equal or surpass the speed gains on the MBA

Been using Mac Towers exclusively for years and years, and I'm now thinking about adding a laptop to my setup. I've seen the specs and all, but one question remains for the *unibodies* MacBooks: how easy is it to access the battery, HD and RAM to swap them myself?

I'm looking to add a second ethernet port to my MacBook Pro using this product designed for the MacBook Air: [URL:...] Comments on the Apple site indicate that the device can be used with other computers, but I want to make completely sure it's going to do what I want it to do before I make the purchase. The reason I'm looking to do this is that I want to link my MB (via ethernet) to another laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate and use the Microsoft Remote Desktop Client to operate programs installed on the WIndows machine. The catch is that the internet at my current location (a university accommodation building) is also supplied by ethernet LAN and has some kind of detection system that prevents unauthorised routers from accessing the internet. So basically what I want to do is have the university LAN/internet running into the existing ethernet port on my Mac and then connect the ethernet port on the windows machine to the USB/Ethernet adapter plugged into one of the Mac's USB ports. The Windows machine does not have to have internet access. Is this possible? Will I be able to configure the two ethernet ports separately to operate two network connections? I understand the connections would require a different subnet mask and possibly a static IP for the computer-computer connection. That was a bit long-winded in the end.

Finally got my mbp. Also separately ordered OWC ram module, and a larger HDD. Before I do anything as far as install upgrades, load parallels or any other programs. Should I go ahead with stock mbp and install parallels, windows and all my software first; then do a complete backup prior to adding new hardware; or should I go ahead and just add the hardware then build on that? Also, is there a guide to make the backup and reload full proof?

I am upgrading my RAM from 512 MB to the Max limit 2 GB. After I add the two 1GB RAMs and put the MacbookPro back together will I have to do some kind of reboot restore, or something like a hard drive backup restore, before it will all work? Or do you just replace the RAM cards and start it up and it works fine?

*Apple officially supports 2 GB of RAM, but third-parties have been "unofficially" able to upgrade it to 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM (it can hold 4 GB but cannot fully utilize the memory beyond 3 GB).
Im thinking about adding that 2gb ram to make it 3gb. but i want to know what are the problems that i may face. Would i be void of apple warranty if anything happens?

I have a Mac, which I love deal, but the evil people at the MBA program I will be attending next year are dead set on me having a PC (They have a "special deal with Dell" that isn't a deal). The compromise is that I can just add Windows to my Mac. I know that this is possible through Parallel, but am really concerned about performance issues and viruses. I have the entry level computer, not the Pro, so I'm very concerned about this proposition. I'm hoping to fight them on this issue, so I'm really looking for your adding Windows to an entry level Mac horror stories.

I am relatively new mac and networking for that matter! I am having trouble seeing my mac on my Windows 7 PC, I guess the biggining is a good place to start, so here is what iv done. On my Macbook, I've gone to system preferences/network/airport/advanced/WINS and put in the name of my workgroup "WORKGROUP" and put my gateway ip in for the winservers. But not seeing the mac on the PC. I've been struggling all week trying to share a drive out from a mac and mount it remotely onto a windows 7 machine. Also I haven't been able to see any of my macs in the network in windows explorer on the windows 7 machine.
Eventually I found a solution, which I thought others may find useful:
Goto Start Menu
Search for: Local
Hit Enter
Select Local Security Policy
Goto Local Policies> Security Options
Double Click on Network security: LAN Manager Authentication
Change level to: Send LM # LTLM Responses
Then:
Goto Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
De-select Require 128-bit encryption
Hit OK
But still no luck, all I want to be able to do is move files back and forth from the Mac to pc, and visa-versa.

I've been a happy MacBook owner for two years now, and would like to add a desktop to my collection...or at least the experience of one. So, should I just buy a large lcd screen, mouse and keyboard for my MacBook, or should I get an actual desktop, like a mac mini (and all the peripherals)? Are the mac minis worth buying, or should I only consider an iMac and up? I have a desktop running Vista, and I used to share its lcd with my MacBook via a switch.
I just got tired of having to move everything around on my desk to make room for the MacBook, and then plugging everything up was a chore. I'd kind of like a permanent, Mac desktop solution the more I think about it. With a mini I could use all the Vista peripherals and just change between the two via the switch...which wouldn't be too bad actually. I do audio / video editing, as well as graphic design work. I do my gaming on either my xbox 360 or my Vista desktop, so I'm not looking for a gaming rig.

Any chance Apple will once again offer a matte version of the latest 15" MBP?
