Nov 17, 2008i would like to send a jpg picture from my phone to the macbook.
bluetooth is turned on on my nokia n95 phone.
when i turn on bluetooth on my macbook.... the on and off buttons are greyed out.
and when i try to turn it on in system preferences, it says bluetooth hardware turned off, turn on... so i turn on.... and nothing happens.
so its not letting me set up a new device (my phone)
can i use infrared? does my macbook have this?

Jul 10, 2009I have an AT&T phone, not an iPhone, but I want to make a ringtone for it using a song in my iTunes library. I want only like a 30 second part of the song, and I was wondering if anyone knew any good software to make and send it to the phone? I have an MP3 compatible ringtone phone, however it's a Pay As You Go so I'm not sure as far as capabilities go...I think I know how to SMS it to my phone but I need to find a good software to cut, clip, and maybe change format if needed.

I can only think of something like this working in one of two ways: Sending an SMS composed on my Mac through my mobile/cell, via Bluetooth or some other method? OR Using software that emulates my mobile number to compose and send SMS?
I remember back in the day you could actually email an SMS to a phone by using their mobile number as a username and their network as the domain - e.g. 07123456789@orange.net. Unfortunately, because pretty much all the networks now provide email services too, doing that nowadays means they will actually receive an email at their online account instead of their SMS inbox.......................

However when I connect my phone to the computer using the usb cable that came with it, my Macbook does not recognize that the phone is connected. Can I fix this and if so, how? The phone is a LG VX5500 Verizon cellphone and I do not believe that it has a SIM card. I took out the battery but it doesn't look like there is any place for a SIM card.

I'm not sure what caused it to stop, but now all notifications show up as the phone number of the contact. In the actual app, the names look fine. Jun 4, 2009All of a sudden I cannot send mail from my main Mac. My other 2 work fine so I know it's program issue. I called my internet provider and they told me i had to contact Apple so I thought I'd start here. She did suggest that I delete my mail account and set it back up. I'm willing to try this, but I can't loose all my mail. So, I have a back up on time machine if I need it, but I'm not sure how to re enter it into mail.

I have googled and can't find much but is there a way to bluetooth text from my phone to my computer then from my computer to the phone to a recipient? I say bluetooth so that I don't have to use extra messages or get charged by my carrier for it. Is there an app that can do this? Basically I want to be able to leave my phone in my pocket and still receive text on my computer that come to my phone and then be able to respond from my computer.

Feb 18, 2008Just got my first Mac on friday, I'm loving finding out how to do everything, but one thing has become extremely frustrating. I can't send my email! I have no trouble receiving it, and I've read everything I can get my hands on and all my settings seem to be correct. I've tried port 25, port 587, tried using smtp.mac, mail.mac, (my ISP) tried with SSL and without, everything I could change I've changed. My username and password and all account information must be correct since I'm able to receive mail, it's just the sending that's the problem. I'm using a dot mac email account if that makes any difference.
One thing that concerns me is that under mail preferences, accounts, and account information, next to "outgoing mail server (SMTP)" it says "(offline)" next to the selected server. Here is the exact message I'm getting, and no matter how I change it the message stays the same. "Cannot send message using the server (null). This message could not be delivered because your SMTP settings are not set. please use the account preferences panel to set the SMTP options for your account. Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click try later to leave the message in your outbox until it can be delivered."

May 7, 2008We have one user who cannot send outgoing iChat messages through Bonjour. If he adds the person to his buddy list, he can IM anyone with no problem. The problem basically extends because if someone were to IM him through Bonjour, he can see incoming messages, but those people can never see anything he types in response.

Nov 30, 2014I tried the 'Connection Doctor' for my Gmail account and it shows to verify username and password. What the settings should be for a Gmail account should be? port #, etc? when i clicked on 'password' extender, like 4 different subjects come up but not sure if i should click on one of those? I believe it did state using 'SSL' and Port 587.
