MacBook Pro :: Cd Stuck Inside Machine Not The Drive
Apr 24, 2012I put a CD in and it disappeared inside the machine itself, not stuck in the drive. I can still use the drive. Every once in a while it shifts and makes an intimidating noise as the drive gags on it. I can sometimes bang and shake till moves to a more docile place. Is it possible to get it out without taking the machine apart?

Hardware :: How To Set Up Slave Drive Inside A Mac Pro
May 20, 2008I have what may be an odd question. I had a Seagate SATA hard drive inside of a Lacie firewire400/800/eSATA external enclosure that recently got zapped in a power surge and stopped powering up. It has a bunch of film files on it, but no operating system. I put it in one of the extra drive bays inside my Mac Pro, and I could hear the drive spinning when I turned the Mac Pro on (usually it's really quiet, but it now had the unmistakable LOUD spinning of the Seagate), so I can tell that the drive itself is not dead. BUT, the Mac Pro decided to try to boot from this drive instead of its own drive. So it wouldn't start up at all, seeing as there's no OS on the seagate drive. I know there are no master/slave settings in Mac Pros, so I'm not really sure how to go about setting up an internal drive w/o an OS on it, in a Mac. I just want to be able to copy the uncompressed video files from the seagate drive to the Mac Pro's hard drive, then remove the seagate drive

I am reluctant to delete them without knowing what I'm doing. How they got this way.

Apr 24, 2010I just received my new 1 TB time capsule, but I just can�t make i work. I am able to connect to it and see the configuration and stuff like that, but it�s like that there is no hard drive in it. If I try to connect an external HD through the TC then the external HD I shown just fine but still no internal.
On the attach picture you can see the overview there the HD was supposed too be shown.

Aug 13, 2009I was working on my 15" (2.2GHz) MBP when a tiny little bug started crawling across my computer screen. I tried just blowing and waving it off, but it kept on just crawling around, paying no attention to my protests. So I smushed it, like it deserved. I gently pressed against the screen with my thumb and that should have been that - a little wipe and back to work.
There is a problem. It turns out, the little bug was INSIDE the screen! I didn't have the lights on so it was just backlit and I couldn't tell that it was inside! Somehow it got in between the glass and the reflector (or something like that) and is now a mushy mess (albeit a very small one - 2mmx1mm) right in the center of the screen.
How can I clean this mess? I JUST (as in 3 weeks ago) had the display replaced through AppleCare but I'm pretty sure this kind of things falls squarely between the "acts of nature" and "acts of negligence" clauses in the warranty.
I've removed the display and bezels, but chickened out once it came time to pull the LCD. Plus, I don't even know if it is possible to further dismantle the LCD anyway so...
Anyone know if it is possible to separate the layers of an LCD? I'm not even sure what those layers are. Maybe over time the bug will just dehydrate and burn away, but I doubt it.

MacBook :: Headphone Tip Broken And Stuck Inside Audio Plug?
Jul 29, 2010The tip of my headphones broke while connected to the macbook, my computer has this tip inside the audio plug and plays sounds on the useless lineout. There is no way to remove that thing (I tried everything, including matches with a bit of superglue). The only solution I see to get the sound back to the internal speakers is to disable the lineout.

Mar 22, 2012I have a mid-2009 13" MacBook Pro that's having a strange problem. It crashed hard last night while I was typing something- just froze solid, couldn't force quit, then the mouse pointer stopped. Shut it down with the power button, started it again, got the "not permitted" symbol (circle with a line through it). Restarted with my Tiger emergency USB boot drive and the hard drive didn't show up in Disk Utility. Whoa! Restarted with a Cmd - Opt - P - R, no change.
I pulled the hard drive and put it in an external enclosure that I have. It mounted just fine on my iMac so I backed up all of my data, then plugged the drive in to the MacBook to see what would happen-and behold the MacBook booted just fine with the drive attached in the external enclosure! It worked perfectly! At this point, I had no drive installed in the MacBook, the MacBook's hard drive was attached via an external USB enclosure, and I booted the machine via the Lion USB rescue utility. I ran Disk Utility thinking that it would have all sorts of errors to report, but the partition showed no problems. I repaired permissions for good measures, then put the drive back in to the MacBook. Again, I got the "not permitted" symbol.
I tried booting from the USB rescue drive- when I went to Disk Utility the drive showed up but the system hanged when I selected it. I restarted with the Snow Leopard DVD inserted but it froze before loading the setup process (I assume when it was trying to mount a file system from the HD).
I run Windows 7 in a Boot Camp config on this machine as well, so just for fun I tried to start from the Windows partition. To my surprise, it booted just fine from Windows. On top of that, once in Windows I had no trouble accessing the Mac partition.
I decided at that point that maybe something had gone awry that I couldn't see and that I should repartition the drive. I put it back in the external enclosure, booted the MacBook from the Snow Leopard DVD, used Disk Utility to repartition the drive, put it BACK in the MacBook and tried to boot from the Snow Leopard disc again- and it crashed in the same place. I rebooted from the Lion rescue drive and tried to use Disk Utility to check the drive- DU crashed when I selected the hard drive.
As a last-ditch effort, I swapped out the RAM and tried again. No go. At this point, I'm really hoping it's a problem with the hard drive, but seeing as though it works great from an external enclosure, I don't know what to think. I don't have any other 2.5" SATA drives to test in the machine so I have to assume that other than a failed SATA controller, firmware, or other logic board problem, it must be the drive, right?

Apr 9, 2012The speaker on the top of my screen is muted and I cannot get any sound out of the internal speakers. When I try to raise or lower the volume there is a circle with a line through it underneadth the speaker level window that pops up and everything seems frozen. I've checked online to find a solution and did see a red light in the headphone jack. So I plugged back in headphones and a USB and pulled out the headphones, the red light went off but I still see no option for internal speakers in my Sound preferences. What do I do? I'm trying to avoid a trip to the apple store...

With the new MBP if I have my computer on a desk etc it will collect from the bottom on both sides. Thus collecting more dust and blowing it out towards the screen. Jul 5, 2009Just weeks after buying my new unibody MacBook Pro in late December 2008, I noticed a few dust specks. I was in Shanghai (where there were no Apple Stores), so I waited a few weeks until I was supposed to go to Sydney.
When I arrived in Sydney, I booked a Genius Bar appointment. After the Genius inspected the screen and attempted to wipe the screen with some iKlear, he told me that he would check if there were any new screens and that if there were, he would replace it today.
So, I waited for about four hours for the repair, then came at the time he told me to collect it. I waited for another two hours, as the Genius also found out that my AirPort Card was faulty, so they were going to replace that as well.
It was about ten o'clock at night when I got back my MBP with a new screen. I thought everything was all right, until I found out that the person who repaired my screen had misaligned the top and bottom, so the bottom stuck out 2mm, or rather, the screen was sunk back 2mm. I couldn't go back to the store the next day, since I was bound to go back to Shanghai early next morning since I had school on Monday (I'm a student).
After about two weeks with the new screen, I noticed that the hinge had gotten noticeably looser, and when I moved it, it wobbled back and forth for a few seconds. Then, a week from then on, I noticed a dust speck in the lower left corner. I also had one in the center of the screen. The summer holidays were in two months, so I decided to just hold on for a little longer.
Since the summer holidays have rolled around, I'm going back to Sydney in July. Do you think that Apple would replace my screen the second time?
EDIT: I also found out that my MBP has some type of problem. It is extremely dependent on the battery, and I have to plug in the charger, or it shuts down instantly (or in a few minutes). After the crash, the battery lights would blink on and off (all of the lights). I'd have to remove the battery cover, pull out the battery, put back the battery, close the battery cover and plug in the charger so that the lights would revert back to the normal lights.
I went to a dealer in Shanghai about it and they told me that it might be the battery's problem, so I got a new battery for testing out, but then the computer shut down after about one hour of usage. I'm almost definitely sure that it is the logic board's problem, and do you think that Apple would replace my logic board for free? (I have never dropped my MBP, or have any reason for it to suddenly turn faulty.)
MacBook Pro :: L-Shaped MagSafe Charger Split And Stuck Inside The Charging Port?
Feb 5, 2012Someone tripped over the wire of the MagSafe charger, and it came away from the macbook, but split the L-Shaped part in half, and left the magnetic end stuck inside the charging port, and the other part exposing the gold pins. Is there any way I can remove the magnetic part myself? Or should Apple be able to do it for me?
