I have 3 external hard drives:
- two with double USB wire
- one with only one USB wire
My MacBooks (Pro 13 and 13 white) don't see the drives with double USB wires. Both MacBooks work perfectly fine with the drive with one wire and my windows machine works with all 3 external drives without any problems.
I have a MacBook which I purchased in Feb 2007. It gets light daily use.
Over Christmas holidays in Dec 08, while attending a weeklong family reunion, the laptop was in use almost constantly by various family members. On the drive home, our daughter had the MacBook plugged into the power source in our minivan so she could watch a DVD. She noticed a scorching smell, and realized the plug at the computer end was smoking! That's when we noticed a series of small holes or tears around the plastic coating of the power cord where it attaches to the plug (just below the thicker sheath). The wires inside were twisted together and had shorted out.
We went to an Apple store and purchased a new cord. It cost $120!!!
While my MacBook is no longer on warranty and I do not have AppleCare, I want to contacting Apple about this. I am wondering if other people have encountered this problem. I notice that the new power cord has a longer plastic sheath between the plug and the cord; it is twice as long as the one on my old cord.

I currently have a speaker setup consisting of Logitech Z-640's and am using this adapter to connect my speakers to this monster aux cords for my macbookpro and iphone. My question is, is there a way to hook up 2 devices (my computer and HDTV) to my speakers without having to plug and unplug them ever time? and a way to eliminate the wire clutter? Someone recommended a USB sound card?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought a MacPro two weeks ago and have just taken delivery of the bluetooth module and Airport Extreme card design specifically for the Mac Pro. I've put the bluetooth card in and connected up the cable that has "BT" label on it. I thought it would be same for Airport Card but there's 3 cables to choose from labelled intuitively "1" "2" and "3". All with the same connectors on the end and all taped up together. The Airport Extreme card requires 2xcables to be connected. Anybody out there have a MacPro with Airport pre-installed and can take the side off and have a look at their config for me please? They are supposed to be a service center install hence don't come with a manual, they refer you to the AppleCare Service Source Website.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have a Logitech Dinovo Edge and a Logitech 470 Travel Mouse.. the keyboard has been working fine but I've been having problems with the mouse.. I read about the Bluetooth Module and the BT,1,2,3 wires inside the mac pro and the possibility of a wire being labeled wrong. Unless the module is on the back of the motherboard, I haven't seen any wire that says BT. If the tray where the ram slots are is removed there 2 tiny wires in the lower left that says 1 and 3. No other connector for BT so I don't think thats the location. Where is this Bluetooth Module located? If I cant get this to work correctly whats the best dongle to get?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a 2005 G5 and my Bottom bay HD wires are busted. I need to obviously buy new ones but the problem is I can't figure out where the wires go, I can find the smaller wire, but not the bigger power wire (i think its the power). When I open up the G5 it looks like the big wire goes behind the board (and I really dont want to take the whole thing apart!). Does anyone have a picture explaining where all the wires go in a 2005 G5. I have goggled it, but just internal pics and simple explanations come up, I am looking for something more complicated so I know where the bottom bay wires go to.If anyone has switched out the wires before please let me know, cause this is nuts. They make everything else in the G5 easy to do but this. ( This all happened because I shipped it and the wires snapped on my bottom drive)

Your MacBook Pro comes standard with a 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive. Choose a hard drive with a faster speed for greater performance. Or you can choose a solid-state drive that offers enhanced durability.
Basically suggesting that the HDD option has a performance advantage over the SSD, but is this the case? I always thought SSDs could read & write quicker because they use solid-state flash memory as opposed to hard disks.
I want to go with the 256GB SSD but I want to know how it ranks in speed.
I have a question regarding Time Machine functionality. Here's my situation. I have two hard drives in my Pro: one that operates as a Boot drive, and one for storage. Right now I have Time Machine set up to backup my storage drive, but I was wondering if it was possible to have plug in a second external drive and use it to back up the Boot drive. I searched for a similar thread, but couldn't really find anything. Has anybody successfully done this?

I have been having problems with my MacBook (Aluminum late 2008, I think, OS 10.5). It runs slowly; files on the desktop and in my "Macintosh HD" often won't open with double-click but have to be opened with File-->Open; there are Word Work Files that won't go away; the trackpad is often stiff and not very responsive; clicking on the mouse is very stiff, despite very easy settings. In short, a lot of things are sluggish. Sometimes, also, I get the spinning beach ball, but not all the time.
I have run disk permissons repair from Disk Utility many times (both from the desktop and from the MacBook install disk); I have replaced the directory with Disk Warrior at least twice; I have verified that the disk is OK; I have zapped the PRAM; and done other things of that kind.
I took the MacBook to an Apple Store yesterday. It had been unplugged and much to my surprise, most everything seemed to be working all right. When I opened it today, however, I found everything as it was before I took it to Apple. Including the Word Work files, which I thought were gone.
If I recall correctly, this started when I was working on a long editing project in Word, but I don't know whether that has anything to do with what has happened. I've done similarly long projects before, and this never happened.
I could try trashing the Word Work files (there seem also to be quite a lot of folders with "recovered" files), but I don't want to do that unless I can be assured that nothing bad will come from doing that.
I know this seems quite comprehensive, and may involve several issues, but I'm really unhappy about this and would love to think there is something more I can do, apart from returning to the Apple Store. Besides everything else, how can I khow that I won't find, again, that the MacBook will work fine there but goes back to its troubled state when I return?

Yesterday, I started having strange trackpad behavior where it will sometime act as if I double-clicked when I only clicked once. So I'm highlighting everything until I double click again. Then, I sometimes have to double-click in places a single-click is supposed to work such as closing windows. I've rebooted, adjusted a trackpad settings and don't know what to do at this point.

It's making it impossible to highlight text and windows automatically go into the dock if I try to move them. Is it something serious or could I just try and fix it by dismantling and cleaning it? If I click on a icon then i have to wait several seconds until i can klick again to rename (that takes also several seconds until i can rename it) it or something else. since some days my trackpad always wants to open the file if i click on it. the other mysterious thing is, when I plug in an usb-mouse (not magic mouse) and click on a link in the safari app with the middle-button of the mouse, my macbook air opens the link in a new tab twice, instead of one single time. if there somewhere is an option to reset all the option of the input devices?

How can I configure OS X to not automatically unzip archive files when I double click on them, but instead simply open them in the default archive handler tool?
I know archives can be opened via the context menu, but I would prefer to just double click without causing the archive to unpack.

so i've been having an issue with the double tap to hi-light any text i wish to copy. Such things as double tapping the URL bar to hi-light the whole url so i can just retype w/e site i want to go to. Every time i restart or turn off or my mbp goes to sleep and i reopen it, the double tap function resets. So i'm forced to go to the system preferences > trackpad> "double-click speed" to slowest in order to get my double tap to hi-light anything again. Is there something wrong with my mbp? Or is there a way i can save the settings when i put the double-click speed to slow so that it wont reset every time my mbp needs to be woken up or restarted?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm currently running OSX 10.9.5 on a mid-2013 MacBook Air and have hooked it up to a Canon Pixma MP230 3-in-1 printer. This printer has a built-in manual two-sided printing function, where the user flips the pages for the printer to print on both sides. This feature was working great right about until a few months ago, and suddenly the option is no longer showing up when I attempt to print out of Google Chrome, nor is it available when I try to print using the personalised printer dialog.
My current printer driver is 11.7.1.0, which came out in Sept 2014. I don't know how to downgrade to an older driver (I have tried several times!).
The option for two-sided printing is simply greyed out on the printer dialog, and there is no option to turn it on in the printer setting (no driver tab).

I've searched far and wide on the internet on how to remedy this, but as I stated above, I don't have a driver tab on my printer setting, so this cannot be simply "turned on" somewhere in the settings, because I did nothing to "turn it off" in the first place. Note: other printers display a two-sided printing option on my laptop, so it's this particular printer and driver that are the issue.

my mbp i7's double tap doesn't save when i set it to a certain "double-click speed" so when i put my mbp to sleep or restart it, i'm forced to go back to the settings and set my double-click speed again. The point of me doing this is because for some reason, my double-click doesnt register or hi-light the text in the URL or text in essays etc. when its set up to the fourth notch on the slide bar. so i have to put it down to 0 on the bar in order for my double tap to register. Its really annoying to have to redo this every time i come back to my mbp.

Last night, when I connected to the router for the first time, I was showing 300mbps, when you Options+click the Airport icon. However, now I'm only showing 145mbps. To be fair, I may have changed a few settings between now and then, but I have no idea how I was able to get 300mbps before. It's as though it's only connecting to one channel, instead of two, which is required for 300mpbs I think?

I have a 13in MacBook Pro Mid 2012 model with a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory. I've got it new in the summer of 2012, and haven't had any real problems until now. I have a 1TB Hitachi external hard drive with over 600GB left of storage. I'm running Yosemite.
Lately, as in the past few weeks but more noticeably the past few days, I can't open files if I just double click on them from my desktop or from searching them outside of the application. For instance, if I click on a word document on my desktop, it will cause the work icon to bounce for a while, pretending to open, but it never does. If the application is already running, the file just won't open. If I search from the "open" selection within the application, it works fine. This is true for all of my Microsoft Office apps, Photoshop, Preview, iTunes, and everything in between, all of which I had never had a problem with before.
Next, anytime I try to backup my system using Time Machine, it simply shows the "Preparing Backup" status and never starts. I've had the hard drive and used it as a Time Machine since I got the computer, and have had zero problems at all.
I've tried CleanMyMac2, Memory Clean, and I've always kept my Mac very clean and organized, as in no duplicate files, moving my biggest files onto my hard drive, and deleting any of my unnecessary files. I know I don't have a ton of RAM left, but I'm honestly not completely sure what to do about that, as this model apparently doesn't have RAM updates available.

My macbook pro isnt reading my double clicks. Usually when i go to create a new tab on safari or to highlight something i double click on the track pad. I have 4 x 500MB drives in my Mac Pro and 4 x 500MB external firewire drives.
Currently I use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone each internal drive to it's respective backup. ie Drive 1 > Backup 1, Drive 2 > Backup 2 etc
Is it possible to use Timemachine in a similar way? so that each internal drive has it's own corresponding Timemachine backup?
