MacBook Pro :: Why Does It Just Go Black All Of A Sudden
Dec 7, 2014Why does my MacBook Pro just go black all of a sudden?
View 1 RepliesWhy does my MacBook Pro just go black all of a sudden?
View 1 RepliesI was editing in FCPX and all of a sudden a few clips in my timeline went black. What I mean by that is when I played them back, they were completely black. It was like the footage had gone missing. You name it, I tried all of the obvious things to do from here on in; I replaced and re-timed the footage with a fresh I/O grab from the clips panel. I tried reimporting the clip. I tried re-linking to the source file. I tried re-creating optimised media. Nothing worked. The only thing that worked was transcoding the footage in a different problem with a different filename and then reimporting and then replacing that with the black clip.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a few good ways to transport and use my UMB. I figure buying a hardshell case & a timbuk2 bag seem like a good combo. Question is - which do you guys think is better, the Speck or Incase cases? Anyone have any experiences? I had the Incase hardshell for my old whitebook.
Seemed to work out alright. The other option I thought of was getting the invisible shield. Anyone have any thoughts?
all of a sudden there is no sound on my macbook pro..

Do the MBAs with a SSD still have a sudden motion sensor? I was trying to use smack book with my Rev A SSD, but the SMS is either broken or missing, trying to figure out which it is.
I've just installed a Crucial C300 256Gb in my Macbook Pro 17" and replaced the Superdrive with a Seagate 500Gb.
I'd like to disable the SMS for the SSD but keep it for the 2nd HD. Is there anyway to do this?
I believe the following is for all drives at once.
# to disable
sudo pmset -a sms 0
# to enable
sudo pmset -a sms 1

Just recently my 13" Macbook Pro started to run very slowly. When I search something on google, the spinning wheel will pop up as my cursor and remain for about 30 seconds while I am unable to do or click on anything and if itunes is playing in the background then the song will stop abruptly. Everything eventually loads but its just a pain in the butt. Before this i was doing the exact same type of things with my computer and it handled them fine so i do not believe its an issue of RAM. THis happened to me once before and when I turned my computer back on it just got to the gray apple logo and would go no further, somehow my harddrive failed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThese problem occur in a late 2013 Macbook Pro. All of sudden my "5" key doesn't work. But if I press any other number, I will get that number and the "5". All other keys work properly. Other symptoms include a running series of 5s in password boxes. I'm absolutely sure there is no water damage. Usb keyboard works fine. Another symptom is an occasional flickering menu when I pull down say Safari or the Apple icon, such that I can't make a selection. I took the 5 keypad off and it looks and reacts just fine. About 10% of the time this problem disappears. Did a virus scan. I'm running Yosemite.

I just dropped in a 1 TB drive into my 17" MacBook Pro and it seems like that the Sudden Motion Sensor doesn't work not. I do not hear the sound when it engages as I did with the stock 500 gig drive that was in there. My understanding is that the Sudden Motion Sensor was not built into the drive and it was built into the notebook itself. Shouldn't I still be hearing the drive stop when the Sudden Motion Sensor engages?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a 2010 13" MBP with an SSD installed. It has all the latest updates including iLife '11 and M$ Office 2011.I was watching videos in iTunes (music videos bought from iTunes store). As I went to play the next video, it wouldn't play; it just froze my computer. I did a hard rest and tried it with a few more, all of them froze my mac for about 30 seconds before playing. My first thought was it was an IO wait and my SSD was playing up. So I checked the console and have being getting

NVDA(Video) Channel timeout!whenever I try to play a video. Next step, I tried to play a video in iTunes and quicktime from an external hard drive with the same result, ruling out the SSD.lease don't be my graphics card failing after only having the mac for 2 weeks, I was thinking! It then occurred to me that it maybe a codec problem, so I tried playing videos in VLC (ones not purchased in itunes but producing similar playback problems) and they worked!
I did a google search on this and just came up with answers/solutions that I have already tried but haven't had much luck.I have a 2010 13" MacBook Pro.
Till about a day or two ago I use to get amazing battery performance out of the computer. I mean 8-9 hours without major issues. Now suddenly for the last couple of days the batter life after a fully charged battery shows up as 3 hours. I can't figure out why.
Downloaded iAlertU and it turned out not to work.
I then found no sudden motion sensor present in the system profiler of new macbook air 13. Looks like we miss another quite cool feature.
I bought a MacBook Pro September 2007, the last months I have experienced a sudden shutdown of it without any low battery warning. After browsing around the forums I found a app called Coconut Battery which I installed. This is what it showed me: What I can do to get my battery performance better? Do I have to invest in a new battery? And aren't the prices on those extreme?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have four external drives connected to my MBP: One USB 2.0 drive, and three that are connected via FireWire 800 (they are connected "in line", i.e. one is connected to the MBP, the second one is connected to the first one, and the third one is connected to the second one). For several months already, I experience the following anomaly:When an external drive hasn't been used for a while it normally goes into sleep mode and the otherwise turning disks come to a standstill. The problem, however, starts when I want to use the data of one of the "sleeping" drives (e.g. by opening the Finder): Then one or more other drives, that are also in sleep mode, but used to come back into "active" mode in the past, are suddenly disconnected. MAC OS X then displays the message that a disk has been disconnected without being formally ejected (via the dustbin). This is not normal, of course, and I am afraid that this behaviour could harm the disks health and live time.I have tried the Disk Utility Tool of OS X for all the drives mentioned, but they seem to be ok.

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro, with the following specs; OSX LionIntel i7 2.8GHz (dual core)8GB RAM256GB SSD HDDIntel HD graphics..The issue that I have been having is a sudden, unexplained increase in boot-up time. Yesterday and for the past two years, my MBP took circa 15 seconds to boot up, but today it has been taking approximately 5 minutes. I have the latest software update. My hard drive space is running low; I only have 4GB of space left, could this be a contributing factor? When I switch on the laptop, it get to the picture of the Apple logo, without the spinning gear below, hangs there for approximately 4 minutes, and then eventually continues to the user log-in screen.

All of a sudden I cannot print to my Canon MF4370dn. I am connected via the wifi network. I didnt have a problem with any of this until a week ago. I called Comcast and they told me that they connections were good. I know this is true since my ADT service is working just fine and it is connected to this network.Â
I called Canon and they are not supportive at all. They tried to uninstall and reinstall printer but it still did not work.

I'm installing the Samsung SpinPoint drive tonight and was curious. Does the sudden motion sensor still function properly? The reviews on Newegg don't seem sure. One guy thinks it still works, but he simply
no longer hears it, and another is convinced that without the clicking sound that comes with moving the MBP, it's simply not functioning.
