For some reason I don't have the screen at top of screen where I type www. whatever screen or the arrows to go back one screen. It use to be there all the time. I don't know what I did.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't know if it depends by a latest update I did to Itunes but after an uncertain amount of time my MacBook Pro 2.2Ghz Santa Rosa start to flicker. I have posted a video in youtube [URL] so you can see what happend. For a small amount of time while flickering is started the mouse can move around then it stuck and lock me out of the system. I have to reset many time PVRAM and SMC then it will restart until it lock it down again. It worked flawlessly until yesterday after if I don't remember wrong one or more software update. I use Snow Leopard (official licence). I downloaded the Combo Update for Snow Leopard and ran it. I still have to test it again. Since I need to do some work in the next 48 hours I can't full test it. After the hard reset an image pop out and It won't let me start up the system again ever if I reset many times PVRAM and SMC Then I use bootcamp to "unlock" the MBP. I do run windows under BootCamp. It will run but I can't see anything since the video remain black (I hear the HDD until stop working) Then I push the power down button and I turn off the windows Then after a long time it will log into Snow Leopard! I'm getting crazy the last two days

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook Pro display all of a sudden went to the 'white screen of death' as I've heard others refer to it as. I've tried zapping PRAM, resetting SMC etc. to no avail. When I connect an external monitor, I am able to use the Macbook without problem, so I know it is video card/controller/display related issue. I'm going to send the Mac in for repairs. But before doing so, I'd like to erase my hard drive so I'm not sending them all of my data with the computer. I've done a time machine backup, so all is fine there as well.
My problem, is that in order to erase the hard drive, I need to boot from the OSX install disk. No matter what I try, I can't do this with my external display. If I insert the disk, and hold down the C, my Mac never recognizes the external display plugged in and so I cannot see to get to the disk utility tools on my OSX install disk. I've tried using Command-display dim button, to no avail.
I've tried simulating a clamshell mode boot where I close the lid as soon as the boot starts (with the OSX install disk in the drive) and I get a kernel panic every time. Even if I didn't, I don't see how I can close the lid at startup and hold down the C key at the same time.

To begin with, I own a MBP Intel Core Duo 2.0/2 Gigs of ram. I've had this laptop for roughly 18 months and do not have Applecare. I take extreme good care of all my stuff and still baby it till this day. I have NEVER bumped the laptop against anything, accidently dropped it too hard on the desk or anything similar along the lines. Essentially, looking new. About 2 days ago, I was working with my laptop and I closed the lid which made the computer go to sleep. Everything all normal & no appearance of anything! Around mid-night, I opened the MBP's lid to check my email. (Computer awakes, I can hear the Superdrive awake) then boom, a blank screen. The monitor did not turn on then burn out, it was always off. Similar to if you dim your monitor all the way. I can still see the desktop however, there is no light. If I take my flashlight and point it to the desktop, I can see everything. I called a few places, and they described it is the Inverter board or could be the fluorescent bulb that is damaged. My reasoning for the inverter board is faulty is because when a fluorescent bulb goes out it, it tends to flicker at first. Researching this forum, I noticed most MBP users LCD's that go out, they flicker but, mine just went out and I can still see the desktop. Where can I order the inverter board? I tried [URL] but they're out of stock. I will change the inverter board myself because it will be quicker and I need to use my laptop. It is currently hooked up to an external monitor until I can get this fixed.

Now after I turn it back on, it takes a really long time to load and when I get to the login, I can't type my password in the box. I can still move the pointer around, but can't click anything with the trackpad. I've also tried an external usb keyboard but that also doesn't work.

How do I open a small window on my screen that allows me to type in a word, and that word is then highlighted every time it appears in the text on the page I'm in? I've seen it done before. It makes searching an internet wall much easier when your looking for something particular.

I've been using a Windows partition with no problems at all. I started also using it via vmware and i would boot into win XP from both bootcamp and vmware without any problems. Suddently, one day, it was like the display drivers just stopped working... The mac would boot to the Bootscreen, and after i choose the windows partition the screen remains blank (not just black, theres no signal sent to the monitor). I can tell that windows are running fine on the background, i just can't see anything. 2 notes here: in the past, again all of a sudden, the windows logo just dissapeared, it was blank, but after that i was able to see my desktop and work on it. One more note, in the past, yes yet again without any reason, the keyboard stopped working while in the windows partition.... i discovered that i had some windows updates left and not installed, i installed them and it fixed the problem. Windows are so weird... Got bootcamp 2.1 drivers, the latest ati drivers for my graphics card (although i can't reinstall them from vmware because ati can't see my graphics card
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am on a brand new 3.06 GHz iMac. Installed Snow Leopard, 10.6.1. In general I don't experience any of the problems other people seem to have. But twice now my screen has turned blue while I am in the middle of something. All the open apps disappear and the Finder seems to relaunch. It only takes a few seconds. I don't have steps to reproduce it. Both times I had several apps open and had video/DVD running in the background.
Has anybody seen this?
I am a notorious file-saver which means I haven't lost much work through this but if it keeps happening I might have to go back to Leopard.
I have faced some known symptoms of a problem for which I was not able to find any sound resolution. I have an account with which I am unable to login. When I enter login details for a session, the system immediately kicks me out showing a blue screen, logs out and goes back to the login window. An interesting observation during a sudden logout is that I spotted a vague image or window of an open application (probably Finder) at the background which is like 95% transparent in comparison to the Mac's desktop and therefore barely visible. The white-ish edges of that window is more distingushable though for a short duration.
I can ssh to this username and work remotely. But there is another username which has not been affected with this issue and works fine. The console logs show that loginwindow process is crashing everytime. Look at the output below. There have been notes with similar effects but with specific causes (e.g. MS Excel 2004 inc Rosetta, Blootooth peripherials, eBook Studio, Photoshop CS3 etc.) which might be related cases.

I didn't have an internet connection so I rebooted the computer -- I wish I'd just rebooted the modem now. When it "rebooted" it didn't boot up but a black screen with a lot of white type saying the start up of various things failed -- it looked like a PC script type thing. Then that type disappeared leaving a black screen and just a white cursor that moves when I hit the space bar. This is the computer for the place I'm working and I'm not even sure what generation Mac it is, though I'll try to find out. I hope, hope, hope that there is some kind of simple resolution to this.

Do the MBAs with a SSD still have a sudden motion sensor? I was trying to use smack book with my Rev A SSD, but the SMS is either broken or missing, trying to figure out which it is.
I've just installed a Crucial C300 256Gb in my Macbook Pro 17" and replaced the Superdrive with a Seagate 500Gb.
I'd like to disable the SMS for the SSD but keep it for the 2nd HD. Is there anyway to do this?

Just recently my 13" Macbook Pro started to run very slowly. When I search something on google, the spinning wheel will pop up as my cursor and remain for about 30 seconds while I am unable to do or click on anything and if itunes is playing in the background then the song will stop abruptly. Everything eventually loads but its just a pain in the butt. Before this i was doing the exact same type of things with my computer and it handled them fine so i do not believe its an issue of RAM. THis happened to me once before and when I turned my computer back on it just got to the gray apple logo and would go no further, somehow my harddrive failed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThese problem occur in a late 2013 Macbook Pro. All of sudden my "5" key doesn't work. But if I press any other number, I will get that number and the "5". All other keys work properly. Other symptoms include a running series of 5s in password boxes. I'm absolutely sure there is no water damage. Usb keyboard works fine. Another symptom is an occasional flickering menu when I pull down say Safari or the Apple icon, such that I can't make a selection. I took the 5 keypad off and it looks and reacts just fine. About 10% of the time this problem disappears. Did a virus scan. I'm running Yosemite.

I just dropped in a 1 TB drive into my 17" MacBook Pro and it seems like that the Sudden Motion Sensor doesn't work not. I do not hear the sound when it engages as I did with the stock 500 gig drive that was in there. My understanding is that the Sudden Motion Sensor was not built into the drive and it was built into the notebook itself. Shouldn't I still be hearing the drive stop when the Sudden Motion Sensor engages?
