While navigating around Facebook, Safari continually hangs on Facebook websites beyond the home screen. I'll click a link and it'll go to a white screen and nothing with load. Then, if I try to go back to Facebook.com, it just remains on a white screen. If I load another website, though, it will work fine. I can't seem to get Facebook.com to load again unless I close Safari and reopen. I can use Google Chrome just fine without it hanging on any of the Facebook sites. Any ideas here?
View 1 Replies View Relatedmacbook pro. running osx lion 10.7.3. google related sites are completely down, but when restarted into guest mode and launched through Safari it works just fine. Also broken in my apple mail account that is linked to Gmail. What gives? All other sites i've tested seem fine and i've tried multiple browsers. Pinging google doesn't send anything back. I'm at a loss. works ok through web proxy.

I have no internet issues anywhere else, just cannot load facebook, gmail, or google search. This has been going on for a few weeks. NEVER had the problem before, and no other computers in the house have any issues at all, but this is our only apple.....

Over the past two or three weeks, my Safari has bogged down. It will load most Web pages just fine, but YouTube, Google and Facebook just won't launch. I managed to use it to download Firefox and it's working great. Safari is still a no-go.

I have read every single post on this problem, I have looked at keychains, plugins, extensions, you name it I ahve tried it. Facebook hasn't worked for three weeks and now Yahoo won't work either. I get the message that the server has dropped the connection. No luck. I also can't get facebook in FireFox or Chrome, so this is a systemic problem. I have run anti-virus, I have done everything imaginable and can't fix the problem. I can get FB, Yahoo, whatever on other computers using the same ISP, modem, and router.

In both Safari and Firefox, I cannot get certain website In safari I get this error message: Safari can’t open the page “http://www.google.com/” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again. I have tried several different DNS providers (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4, 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220) with the same results. I looked at my host file and it is unaltered. I'm running updates now, but don't think that is the issue 9I'll know soon). All the other mac and PC computers on this network are working just fine and get to the sites with no errors.

I've tried doing things with proxy. I've tried resetting Safari. I've tried doing things with cookies. I've tried disabling extensions. Next step is to try throwing my laptop out the window. This only started happening yesterday and there is no issues with other sites. It's not my internet connection. I can't get to Facebook by direct URL or through google or through links in my history. Macbook Pro bought in 2012 with Mountain Loin.

I've tried three different browsers (safari, firefox, chrome). Here is a copy-paste of the ping to facebook.
Ping has started
Ping: cannot resolve [URL]: Unknown host
I've got no network software running in the background (other than dropbox), and I don't think I've set up a custom DNS. Not really sure how to check what it is. This is an on and off thing, sometimes facebook loads, sometimes it doesn't. Using computers connected to the same WiFi, I can freely access Facebook with no issues.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHow can I get Google and Yahoo search engines to stay on "Top Sites"?
View 1 Replies View RelatedPreviously the solution was to install Safari plugins Inquisitor or Glims but Apple have removed the interfaces from Safari 4 that these plugins used - and there is still no built in Safari Preference to set the locale of the Google search. Effectively this renders the Safari Google Search field pretty well useless - at least for UK users. If you're searching for UK-based businesses or individuals, for example, the thousands of USA results that come up first are just not relevant - (that's an example of British Understatement. by the way
View 3 Replies View RelatedUp until yesterday safari/firefox were working perfectly. This morning I find that I can't access engadget, ebay, facebook or apple. I'm sure they're other sites, but these are the ones I checked. I can get ESPN in a text only version, this seems to be one of the only sites that I can actually access. I deleted Safari and tried to go to Apple to download it, only to find that it doesn't work. Any suggestions?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI get this ad every time I load the page. I figured it was a cookie problem so I searched my cookies for 'Google' and deleted all the results. I'm still getting it. It's not happening in Firefox, only Safari. It's been there since Friday or Saturday. Am I the only one?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just enabled Web Shareing, I think for the first time, on an old Powerbook G4. From the links in the System Preferances panel, I was able to see the 'computer' web site, but not the 'personal' one. Taking the problem to be that described in [URL], I followed the instructions in [URL]
Rather than the 403 I was getting, I now just see 'Safari cant open the page [URL] because Safari cant connect to the server macintosh.lan.'running the apachectl configtest commend. I did that, and got the following:
/usr/sbin/apachectl: line 73: ulimit: open files: cannot modify limit: Invalid argument
Syntax error on line 1 of /private/etc/apache2/users/James.conf:
Invalid command 'James/Sites/"', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
how to get the sites folder running?

I accidentally clicked the X on the top sites page and the site isn't repopulating on my top sites. Does anyone know how to reset the safari 4 top sites, i have deleted the preference files, reinstalled the software, and trashed my history, but still it wont reset.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have tried everything that I have read on how to add a site to Top Sites. With two windows open, I try to drag and drop a URL, and the "plus" sign disappears and the URL does not get added to Top Sites.I have tried the top of the page, the sides, the bottom, and the middle where the previews are. It just won't drop. Yes, I've clicked Edit. I've even tried holding the Control, Option, or Command key while dropping.
I have tried adding a site using the Bookmarks, Add Bookmark and choosing Top Sites. When I do this, it does get added to the Top Sites, but when I close and reopen Safari, it is gone - not in Top Sites anymore.I have tried totally re-setting Safari. It does not make any difference. I've tried it on my Mac mini and my MacBook. I can't get it to work with either one.Is there some trick I am missing?

Anyone know why this comes up when I try to log onto Facebook? It only happens when I use Safari--not on Firefox or Chrome. I have my pop-ups disabled, so this is just odd. Can't figure it out.

I cannot open FaceBook on my macbook. I am using Safari 5.0.6.

In both safari and chrome when I type in my username, to login to facebook or ancestry.com or other sites, the browser suddenly acts as though it's been redirected and then returns me to the login page, The username box delets what I pe after about 4-5keystrokes OR it takes me to another login page and inserts the username and password, but won't do anything beyond that. A different user account on the same computer does not have that problem with logins, and I can login no problem if I am on the computer under that other user account.
the troubleshooter on apple support says to reboot in safe mode and see if it happens, however in safe mode, I cannot connect to my wireless network and the browsers won't open.

I have a eGo ITB 800 Firewire drive which has been running fine with Time Machine on my Leopard OSX 10.5 IMac. I just got a new IMac running Lion OSX 10.7.3 and want to migrate my files to the new machine. The new Lion IMac will not mount the drive. I updated the system software today, so it has the latest patches.
1. It appears under Devices in the Finder but Migration Assistant does not "see" it at all. Time Machine DOES recognize it as an Iomega HDD, though I have Time Machine turned off because I don't want to make a back up of the new machine until I transfer the files from the old one.
2. When I connect with Firewire 800, System Information will see a drive there, but it says "unknown device".
3, When I connect with USB, System Information will see the Iomega HDD there and report on it's specs.
4. I power cycled the drive to see if that would help and I got the warning that I should unmount drives first.
5. In the finder, I can see my old files on the Iomega.
6. I can't find any information on this one the Iomega web site, and they say that no software upgrades or drivers are necessary.
All of this implies to me that the disk is ok and the connections are ok. Does anyone know how can I get this drive mounted and working so I can transfer my files?

View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to add other top sites on Safari 4... I see it says "drag URL here to add a top site". Well, when I do that, I just get a icon saying I can't do that, and when I let the URL go on the window anyway, my top site is not added. So what the hell, how do I add a top site?
