I let my 3 year old son on the Mac and he did some removing, and rearranging. Is there anyway I can get it back to default?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI want to set my dock to default settings Basically, I want my dock to look exactly like it did when I first turned on my mac for the very first time. I want all the items I added to the dock gone, and all the default ones I removed back in the dock. I know I can do it manually, but I want to know if there's a way to do it via terminal or something like that.
View 8 Replies View RelatedA while back I downloaded a program called Dock Doctor in order to mess with my dock graphics. Unfortunately it, never really worked right, so I decided to remove it. When I removed it, my dock kept the last setting it had from when Dock Doctor was installed, and I am unable to get it back to the default. I have tried everything I can think of. I deleted the files from the library > preferences which deal with the dock, and that didn't help. I then tried to install both cleardock, which wouldn't install (gives me an error), and cleardock, who's settings don't seem to be changing my dock at all. Something dock doctor did seems to have completely locked my dock graphics down and nothing I do seems to be able to fix it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI would like to modify the dock to display specific installed applications. I then want this dock to be the default dock for any users that log in.
OS is Mavericks. All users are AD users. No server management. We use Deep Freeze to revert the Mac to the way we set it up.
I can find info for previous versions of OSX; basically just copying the plist, but I can't find anything that works for Mavericks.
Hi well after i login on my mac i find my dock reset to the default apps...
Why does this happen. and how can i fix this?
On my Macbook, running Leopard, I recently changed all my icons. (applications, folders, default files, etc.) I changed the Finder and Trash icons via System/Library/CoreServices. But the Dock won't recognize that the Finder icon has changed-- it's still showing me the old icon. That's Problem 1.
Then I created a new user account, and discovered that on that account the Dock shows the correct Finder image. But Problem 2: the new account doesn't recognize my default file icons. It flashes them for a second when I save the file, and then reverts back to the regular white default image. (Even though all the .icns files are correct in the application's Resources folder.) I really don't want to download Candybar or anything, since I know it can be done without that.
I've been trying to change my docks theme for the past few days but have been unable. I've used Candybar, Dock Library etc. and none of them seem to work. I'm really annoyed because it used to work for me. Any suggestions on how I can remedy this problem?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 10.6.8 Mac and my 'Applications' folder is not in the dock anymore. I see it on the 'Sidebar', yet am unable to drag it to the dock.

What is that white icon behind my application folder? I have tried removing it and I cant get rid of it.

I was deleting a file from my screen, and I accidentally removed my Document Folder so it is off my dock. Now next to the dashed lines to make the dock bigger, I only have my Application folder with the trashcan. I have no idea how my Document folder back on!

I'm referring to the actual icon to access all applications - not a particular app.
This is the second time this has happened. Last time it randomly reappeared.
I've tried dragging it back from both the Finder and the Hard Drive icons, but although it looks like it's adding it, it doesn't.

I've poured over these boards in hopes to finding a solution as to why my dashboard won't open. It literally stopped working mid day, one day when I went to return to get a number off of my sticky note in my dashboard. I have tried posting the different lists from my preferences page, however, am unable to get the docments to actually drag to my desktop. I'm not sure if there are any other solutions, but was hoping to find a quick fix as opposed to traveling 2 hours to the nearest genius bar. Any help would be awesome!!

I am trying to figure out a way set my default applications for email. I don't want the Mail app because I use hotmail. Right now if I click on an email address it tries to open mail, which I can't use. If I just erase Mail, the nothing pops up if I click an email address. What am I supposed to do?
In Windows there is a way to set the default program to open any file with a given extension.
I can't find any such option in OSX. Granted that I am new to the Mac, but this eludes me.
Suddenly, all my applications in the applications folder have disappeared! I was suspicious when, trying to open up various apps on my dock, they wouldn't open and I got a question mark over the icons. It is showing '0' applications. I tried copying my applications from my external hard drive. It looks like it is copying over and when the copying is finished, poof, it disappears and applications folder shows '0'. I am on Mac OS 10.3.9, iMac (lamp-shade style), processor is 800 MHz G4, and memory is 768 MB. This is pretty critical, I can't do anything with no applications! (Would this be some strange virus?)

In the past, when I used TeXShop to write documents, Preview from the Mac OS/X was used by the system to open pdf documents. For unknown reason, it seems that Adobe program is being used to open the pdf documents recently. Anybody knows how to set the default pdf viewer to Preview?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using Office forever but just decided to try iWork, and it turns out I love it 100x more than Office. I'm totally going to buy it when my trial expires. Before I do, one quick question that seems kind of obvious, even though I can't find the answer anywhere - is there any way to make iWork applications the default over Office?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have several seasons of a TV show downloaded to my MacBook Pro and I'd like to burn the content onto a blank DVD. I'm still new to Mac so I didn't know what applications could be used to do this. I thought iDVD could do it, so I when I inserted the blank DVD, I (stupidly) made it my default to have iDVD open when I put a blank DVD in. I found that it didn't work in iDVD so I'd like to just do it with Finder... How do I change my default setting so I can do it with Finder instead?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, and therefore have Quicktime X in addition to Quicktime 7 Pro (I paid the $30 to upgrade). Since I have the Pro version of Quicktime 7, I want all movie files to open with Quicktime 7. I opened the Get Info window for a .mov file I just downloaded, switched the default application to Quicktime 7, and pressed the "Change All" button. However, if I close the Get Info window and open it back up, the default application has switched back to Quicktime Player Launcher. How do I get Quicktime 7 to be the default application for all Quicktime files?

How do I configure Mail to make just one of the email addy's the DEFAULT address every time I create email?
I feel stupid for even asking this because it seems like something I'd normally be able to figure out but I've searched a bit with no results. Oddly enough, this only seems to have become an issue since the 10.6.4 update. In Mail, I can't seem to set the default email address to be used when composing a new email.
