MacBook Pro :: Update Still Crashing It
Jun 17, 2012
I downloaded the macbook pro updates last week, installed them and then experienced kernal failure. My computer is back up and running fine now (after a rather lengthy fix) and I was wondering if the update is safe o install yet? Specifically, the iPhoto, iTunes, AirPort Utility and iMovie updates.
The main reason I am eager to attempt the update is because my iPhoto now no longer works, and I presume it is because the iPhoto update has not been installed.

IÂ recently installed the Macbook Air 2013 EFI 2.8 update which seems to cause my Macbook to freeze / crash more often coming out of sleep with an external HDD attached. It used to do it now and then but after the update (which claims to fix the issue it seems to happen more often). Â

Software Update appears to have crashed Filemaker on my MacBookPro. I'm running 10.7.4 on a 2G i7, 4G Ram.The fist time it lost Filemaker data, I had to go to an earlier back up of the file and re-enter data. It seems like it would have crashed any other application I was actually using.

A few days ago, I tried to install a minor update for NeoOffice (mac native OpenOffice) and the installer crashed. I figured no big deal, it's not an important update anyway. Today I tried to install the new Google Voice and Video program (similar to Skype) and the installer crashed again. I figured I had better to a software update because maybe I have some bad version of something. No luck, software update crashes too. I am running Leopard 10.5.8 Here's the reports from the three attempts.

I installed iTunes 10.6 a few days ago. Ever since then, iTunes will run until I try to sync any of my devices. I have tried sync'ing iPad, different generations/typs of iPod and iPhone. They all cause the app to quit "unexpectedly". I can play music from iTunes on my computer - it just fails when connecting to a device via the USB port or wi-fi. I reinstalled iTunes today.

If you want the rest of the multi page thread I will paste it.
I have tried restarting the machine and no dice. I thought of reinstalling itunes from apples site but each time I go there its says congrats on downloading it but will not download a single thing. On the problems downloading its only gives me answers to PC problems. Â
Do I really have to completely reinstall from my iMac install discs just to get itunes back ? I dont use time machine as I have a 1T hardrive in my imac and use most of it for itunes, even I cant afford a 1T stand alone hard drive just for backups.

Was having Adobe shockwave/flash problems while running Chrome, which is not completely unheard of. Restarted my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6.8), which included a software update (though I'm not sure exactly what programs were updated). Now Chrome will not run at all. Every time I start, it crashes immediately. Have tried SEVERAL times to trash/download it, but the same version seems to keep appearing in my Applications folder. Have also tried trashing the Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome folder to no avail. Appears back in its place after dragging it to the trash. Â
In addition, Adobe flash videos for Safari and Firefox (which I just downloaded as a tester) also will not work. Each attempt to update Adobe Flash also ends in a crash. And now I've discovered the same for everything Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). The program shuts down and the Microsoft error message appears breifly, followed by the same crash "Mircrosoft Word Error Reporting Quit Unexpectedly" box. Â Again, have tried several times to download Chrome & Adobe Flash to no avail. All system updates have been made to date. What to do next?

Recently, in the middle of working with applications in iPhoto09 they simply crash. I get a message stating no harm was done but it's getting annoying as it's happening more often than not. I am new to mac, have had it now for maybe two weeks, but wouldnt expect apps to crash this often. Any thoughts?

My powermac keeps crashing about after a few hours of use.
I installed some new samsung 1gb x 2 ram.
The hardware test and techtool show no problems but I'm positive the ram is the culprit.

I was wondering whether to update the nvidia drivers from time to time, is this done through and included in the normal 'software update' from the top-left apple menu bar or do I have to go to the nvidia site and manually update each time?

I am trying to update my Mac book because it is saying that software updates are available (Mac OS X Lion version 10.7.3). But I keep getting a message saying "Some of the selected updates could not be installed. Software updates can't connect to the update server. Make sure you are connected to the internet and then try again"I am using a DLINK wireless router and have had problems with the internet connection dropping in and out on my Macbook, Ipad and iphone but it now seems to be working on all devices so given I am connected to the internet I don't know why the software updates won't install on my Macbook.

After doing the update to OS X 10.7.4 on my MacBook Pro, I am experiencing a few problems. First all my applications would not open any more - almost none of them - so now I am running them all in 32-bit mode. This also happened with Safari after the last update. The second problem, my sofware update is not responding anymore? When I do a software update, it fails, giving me a problem report. The report is pasted below below.Â

My Softward Update and App Store repeatedly "crash unexpectedly" (along with Dashboard, Finder and a whole host of other applications).Â
I have tried everything but it seems there is no way I can use either of them.Â
As a result, I haven't been able to update anything for months and my OSX is now thoroughly screwed up.Â
Is there any way I can update OSX without using Softward Update or App Store? Is there an update file I can download without having to go through them?Â
I'd prefer not to resort to OSX Restore as I don't want have my Microsoft Office product key.

I'll probably upgrade soon but first I want to know if this could a problem where I should get a replacement MacBook.

I have a macbook pro that I bought 6-7 years ago. I'd like to keep it going for a couple more years if I could but a few months ago it started crashing every day at least once, and has only gotten worse - now it's doing it at least 2-3 times per day. Typically what happens is one of two things: either the screen freezes and the cursor spins or the screen slowly fades to white. In both cases I hold down the power button to get it to restart. These things happen with more frequency when I'm watching video, but not always.
