I have a macbook pro that I bought 6-7 years ago. I'd like to keep it going for a couple more years if I could but a few months ago it started crashing every day at least once, and has only gotten worse - now it's doing it at least 2-3 times per day. Typically what happens is one of two things: either the screen freezes and the cursor spins or the screen slowly fades to white. In both cases I hold down the power button to get it to restart. These things happen with more frequency when I'm watching video, but not always.
Recently, in the middle of working with applications in iPhoto09 they simply crash. I get a message stating no harm was done but it's getting annoying as it's happening more often than not. I am new to mac, have had it now for maybe two weeks, but wouldnt expect apps to crash this often. Any thoughts?
I'm running Adobe CS3 on my refurbished MacBook Pro. 10.7.3. I get the gray waterfall on my screen and the "you need to restart" message and it's usually when I have some Adobe program running. I'll probably upgrade soon but first I want to know if this could a problem where I should get a replacement MacBook.
I just got this computer yesterday and since then I have had at least nine kernel panics and I cannot apply the latest Mac OS X update from apple. I ran the Verify Disk and Check and Repair Permissions and those all check out fine. The Reported amount of RAM is also correct.

I've had my Macbook (10.5.8) for over two years and have had no problems until recently. It's crashed twice in the past month, and before that (for a few months) it has been extremely slow. I've cleaned out everything I didn't need and placed most of my documents onto a external hard drive in hopes that this would speed things up - it has not. When the thing crashes it basically reboots itself with out any warning, losing my data. Both times this has happened I had photoshop and Acrobat 6.0 Professional open (I've been editing photos of texts of my research and turning them into pdf - some of these files are quite large (400 colored pages) ie. 600mb). The system usually crashes and reboots while I am editing an unsaved pdf in Acrobat.
Last week I spent 150.00 to have my MacBook Pro Repaired. I am not very good with this stuff and needed help so....
I have a MacBook Pro Version 10.4.11. with iTunes 9.2.1 (5).
Safari, Firefox, Adobe kept crashing. Then Mail crashed and finally iTunes. The computer said that iTunes was now stored somewhere on my computer in a file that was "damaged".
I took it to the nearest computer repair shop (No Mac store within 100 miles of here) but this store does fix MACS. They checked and repaired file systems, reset components, performed Apple/3rd Party software updates, clean temporary files - Repaired file systems. Archived and reinstalled OS. Reimported iTunes and added 1GB RAM.
Got the computer home and my iPhone wouldn't synch. SO I had to uninstall iTunes and reinstall, then figure out how to get my library back...which I somehow did but don't think I could do again. It's been two days and it is starting all over again.
Today, Firefox and Safari began crashing again and yet once again, iTunes crashed and I have lost my entire library. It is back to the "damaged" place in a mystery file on my computer. 2 times today, I got a role down black screen that said I would have to restart my computer.
So, I have run the Disc Utility - repaired disc permissions (there were none to repair) and don't know what else to do except lose my mind. I have NEVER been so disgusted with this computer. I can't understand why NO ONE has been able to figure this out. Apple wants a gazillion buck to answer by question over the phone I didn't really have the 150.00 to have it "fixed in the first place so Apple's fee might as well be a gazillion $$$. I have looked solutions online and either I can't find one or don't understand what I am reading.
I had no trouble with the 3.x versions of Safari, but once I downloaded and installed Safari 4.x 50% of the time when I browse a basic website or I am in the middle of filing out a form my browser crashes, then I get three options which is to Quit, Ignore, and restart the browser. I always choose to close and then I relaunch the browser on my own, but has anyone come across this before is it just me, I need to solve this issue quickly.
I've been trying to fix my macbook for couple days now. I've erased the entire HDD and installed leopard OS on it. I didn't want to install anything on it besides msn since the problem keeps popping up. So basically what happens is safari and msn keeps crashing everytime i start up my mac and try to use them. If it doesn't crash, i get a "you need to restart your computer..." screen. Now its worse... i get a message right when i turn on my computer:
I wonder if it is something to do with gmail. as gmail has been asking to store emails on my local drive and I have been saying no as I was worried it might be a virus or something - maybe I have too many emails on the system. I just dont know. I am using Firefox in the meantime but feel frustrated as I dont know my way around as well and I have work to get on with!
Sometimes when I am surfing the internet each website gets slower and slower to load, and eventually the little loading rainbow icon just keeps going round and round and it has frozen and crashed. What concerns me also is the fact that when this happens it won't even let me 'force quit Safari'. Although I can still bring other applications up (other than the internet), it won't let me shut down or restart either. The only way to get the internet working again is to press the power button which I know I shouldn't do, but what choice do I have when it won't let me force quit, restart or shut down?Â
I am up to date with all the software updates. Because I was having this crashing problem I downloaded both iBoostUp (off app store) and MacKeeper off the internet to scan for hidden viruses etc, but it still hasn't eradiated the problem.

My mac keeps crashing all the time iv tryed disc repair and some red writting comes up and says restart and use disc repair whick i keep trying and it still keeps crashing so what do i do?
I downloaded the macbook pro updates last week, installed them and then experienced kernal failure. My computer is back up and running fine now (after a rather lengthy fix) and I was wondering if the update is safe o install yet? Specifically, the iPhoto, iTunes, AirPort Utility and iMovie updates.
The main reason I am eager to attempt the update is because my iPhoto now no longer works, and I presume it is because the iPhoto update has not been installed.
I develped two simultaneous problems in the past 3 days. First Chrome kept crashing. I got on of those very scary messages in several languages that said I must shut down my computer. I trashed it and switched to Safari. Now Word keeps crashing and I got another of those scary messages.
I've had this Macbook Pro Retina for about 3 months now, and it has been working fine until recently. For a few days now, my computer keeps freezing numerous amounts a day. I noticed that it usually happens when I'm on YouTube, I don't know if thats the cause or why its doing it. But every time I stay on YouTube for a while, out of nowhere, when I click on a new link, the loading icon appears, and it stays like that until I have to shut down my entire computer. I even try closing the tab and it just makes it worse.
Info: MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
The mail app on my macbook is crashing every time I open it. I am running OS 10.9.4. I am not having the same issue with mail on the iMac and both computers run the same mail accounts.
I can open Safari, iTunes, Quicktime, etc... they work fine, but any app that didn't come preinstalled on this computer crashes automatically. This started today, I've been using the computer fine for a month with zero issues. The last thing I did was update twitter and put the computer on the charger all day..
I open up Safari and the address bar says "http://./" then it crashes and I get the notification telling me that Safari has quit unexpectedly. I've tried restarting multiple times but it keeps doing the same thing.
It takes me multiple tries to get it to work. It literally took me 10 minutes this time! It started this morning, so I rebooted, and it happened again. I rebooted just now to see how it was and the same thing happened. I'm running 10.6.1. What's going on? It's quite frustrating.

I've bought from MacSales, two weeks ago, a Crucial SSD CT256M225.SBB1, 256 GB M225 2.5" SATA 3.0 Gb/s, with the firmware 1711, and each time that i use internally (SATA), the MBP get crashing, freezing ant it's investable. But if i use with Firewire or USB, the SSD it's fine. I would like to know what can i do.
so I'm wondering if my i7 macbook pro is going to need to go in. I'm having constant freezes and forcing me to force quit programs and even plugging in external speakers there is a good 45 second delay between connection and everything working. Also the volume and brightness control constantly are lagging when I try to use them. Does this sound like the tradtional freezing problem?
recently I asked a tech about my crash macbook . http://macosx.com/tech-support/laptop-macbook-crashed/344526.html. I didn't have an external hard drive, and by the time I bought one, the support chat thing had expired. But I finally have one now. Anyway, I'm trying to save my files using the external hard drive and the instructions that the tech gave me. "Don't give up on your files, yet!If you don't have a backup of those files, then you should attempt to get those files. Here's what I would do:Get an external hard drive.Boot to your OS X installer DVD. Run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. click on your hard drive, and click the Restore tab. drag your internal hard drive to the Source line. Drag your external hard drive to the destination line, then click the Restore button. That might back up your files all in one step. You may need to wait for several hours for that to finish."
I just tried that, and it worked fine until I tried to drag my external hard drive to the destination line. It dragged it over and then let it go on the destination line, but nothing appeared. I was wondering, why might this be?
My iMovie keeps on crashing like every 3 mins. I've looked up ways to get around this and I have tried to delete the com.apple.iMovieApp.plist files but their aliases cannot be found/I cannot delete them...
