MacBook Pro :: Software Update Quit Unexpectedly After 10.7.4 Update?
May 29, 2012
After doing the update to OS X 10.7.4 on my MacBook Pro, I am experiencing a few problems. First all my applications would not open any more - almost none of them - so now I am running them all in 32-bit mode. This also happened with Safari after the last update. The second problem, my sofware update is not responding anymore? When I do a software update, it fails, giving me a problem report. The report is pasted below below.Â

I did a software update a few days ago - it required me to do a Safari update. Since then I am unable to use safari. When I open Safari, it gives me a msg saying that Safari quit unexpectedly and will send report automatically to Apple. I have tried many things on the web. Deleted the application, and reinstalled. I tried from the original app installation DVD. I have also cleared the cache folder under library.
I'm running OS X 10.6.8 Safari version 5.1.4.I updated my macbook today per the update suggestions and now safari gives me this error every time I try to open it: [code] Info: MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I installed Lion OS X on my iMac and was happily working on this morning within Safari for email. Tried to open iTunes and it wouldn't and was then notified that there were 5 system updates which I installed. After that I can no longer get Safari to open - notification says "Safari quit unexpectedly."

I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I installed that freaking Google Notifier and I have been getting this message "The application GoogleUpdateChecker quit unexpectedly" every 30 minutes.I already uninstalled it and this message is still popping up.How can I delete this file so this message won't pop up again?
I just ran a software update on my Apple Server that runs on 10.6.8 and got the software update quit unexpectedly.
I removed the apple.softwareupdate.plist under library preferences and empty the trash also. I ran the repair permission and it seems to repaired some permissions. I ran the check disk and the disk is OK. I reboot the server and got the same problem when I run the Software Update.

Since upgrading to 10.6.1 I've found that every time i wake my MB from sleep, applications keep quitting left and right, and I get these "application quit unexpectedly" messages. It's happened with Entourage, Safari, iTunes, Dashboard. It's getting pretty annoying. I've tried resetting the PRAM but that didn't help. Does anybody have a clue what to do?!
A little over a week ago I did a software update--not sure what exactly was updated. Since then, Software Update, Safari, Pages, Numbers, iPhoto (not sure yet what else) won't open. Within seconds of clicking the icon to launch, they crash with the message, "Pages quit unexpectedly." I tried restarting MANY times. Is my computer toast? My other applications still work like Word, Firefox...Â
Have Word 2004. Don't laugh; it's been working. When got new MBP, Office worked. (Well, can't recall if PPT ever worked with it.)Excel and Word definitely did work. Two weeks ago, Excel started working sporadically, then not at all.Right now(!!), Word suddenly stopped working. "Word quit unexpectedly" and "Excel quit unexpectedly." Â
This is my first time posting here, and I don't really like signing up to forums but this is a crisis. My problem is, I cannot open any application whatsoever. I can only open up Firefox, but everything else just jumps around the dock for a second and the error message "the application ______ quit unexpectedly". So if you try to open it again, it just bounces around the dock and the error message appears again. I've uninstalled the apps, and installed them again...NOTHING.
This only started happening after I updated to the Security Update 2010-004 (1.0). I know for sure that's the culprit, but I don't know what to do. It's putting me through so much stress, I almost feel like crying. The worst part is, when I click system update, the system update itself jumps around the dock and disappears to only have that "the application _____ quit unexpectedly".
After updating my Macbook air to 10.7.3 my iTunes (10.5.3) will now not quit. It works fine and starts fine but when i try and quit i get the beachball of death. I have to then force quit it.Â
My software update is frozen and I cant get it off. I can't quit the update and I tried restarting it but every time I try it says to try later because the update is running. So I have tried letting the battery die thinking that would restart it but when it started back up again the update was still stuck. The loading bar is still up there and is solid not moving strips. What can I do to quit the update?
Is anyone having trouble with Microsoft Office since installing the latest 10.6.9 software update? Suddenly I can't save a document or even quit any of the applications, though they open and can display existing documents.
I was wondering whether to update the nvidia drivers from time to time, is this done through and included in the normal 'software update' from the top-left apple menu bar or do I have to go to the nvidia site and manually update each time?
If you have an ALUMINUM MacBook and you updated to 10.5.6 with Software Update (NOT the Combo Update), then please post the build number here. The more replies, the better. Also, please specify if you have 2.0 or 2.4.
Superdrive Firmware Update 3.0 fails each time, /Applications/Utilities/SuperDrive Update.app asks me to quit all apps and try again which I did but of no. I also retried with a reboot.
I am trying to update my Mac book because it is saying that software updates are available (Mac OS X Lion version 10.7.3). But I keep getting a message saying "Some of the selected updates could not be installed. Software updates can't connect to the update server. Make sure you are connected to the internet and then try again"I am using a DLINK wireless router and have had problems with the internet connection dropping in and out on my Macbook, Ipad and iphone but it now seems to be working on all devices so given I am connected to the internet I don't know why the software updates won't install on my Macbook.
My Softward Update and App Store repeatedly "crash unexpectedly" (along with Dashboard, Finder and a whole host of other applications).Â
I have tried everything but it seems there is no way I can use either of them.Â
As a result, I haven't been able to update anything for months and my OSX is now thoroughly screwed up.Â
Is there any way I can update OSX without using Softward Update or App Store? Is there an update file I can download without having to go through them?Â
I'd prefer not to resort to OSX Restore as I don't want have my Microsoft Office product key.

I just got the screen that says you need to hold down the power key and restart your computer. Anyone know why? I'm running tiger. I had about 12% battery left and I am "borrowing" my neighbors internet because mine is down right now (I'm a broke college student). I had about 1-3 bars of internet but those go in and out and fluctuate often. I've noticed my computer seems to lag because of that, I've had a lot more applications crashing.

Every time I try to unzip a file using Archive Utility, it says "Archive Utility Quit Unexpectedly". No, relaunching it does not do anything. I have restarted my computer to no prevail and several things I've tried on the internet do not work. Currently using a Macbook Pro, with OSX 10.9.3.

I have just purchased a new MacBook pro 2ghz 15". Since first using it I thought it was a little slow and now it quits programs every day I use it saying "iphoto has quit unexpectedly" etc and its the same for safari, email and garageband.
I have tried to install silverlight several times and keep getting the error that the installer quit unexpectedly. I am running Mac OS X 10.6.8. I could not find a solution for this anywhere. I tried to also access the plug-in on the HD and it never opened up.
