MacBook Pro :: Speck Hard Case And UMBP 17 Display Hinge?

Jul 31, 2009

I bought a uMBP17 and the Speck hard shell for it. I was surprised at how much heavier the machine becomes with the armor on. So I've noticed that the hinge does seem to stress a bit with the extra weight of the shell.

Have you guys noticed that ? Is this something that I should be concerned about ?

MacBook :: Speck Pink Hard Shell Case

Sep 27, 2009

Anyone know any sold sources for where to get a pink Speck Hard shell case? I've found a few websites that claim to have thembut they mostly ship from China and they give no timeframe when the item will arrive. I've checked eBay and craigslist. I found on on eBay, and I purchased it. And about a week later the seller refunded my payment with no explanation or reason and he won't return my emails. So again, if anyone knows a solid source for where to get a Speck, and Speck only

MacBook :: New Speck See Thru Satin Hardshell Case For Alum MB

Dec 18, 2008

There's plenty of opinions on whether to cover your new Alum MB or let it go naked. My question is about the New Speck See Thru Cases for the new Alum MB... See Thru Satin and Hardshell Clear... If you have recently purchased one would you tell us how it fits on the new notebook. Particularly can you still tilt the lid all the way back like they claim? InCase claimed to be redesigning one for the Alum but nothing is out yet. Does anyone know anything about that? Are they really making a case for the Alum? I know the old Incase Hardshell's restricted the tilt on the lid. Anyone have experience with both, the new Speck and the old InCase? And what about all the claims about the Speck products scratching the notebooks? We're concerned here with the "New" ones. So who has bought one?

MacBook Pro :: Looking For Speck Seethru Case - Hardshell Or Wrapsol?

Jul 22, 2010

Just to let everyone know, I am probably the most indecisivve person on the face of the earth. That being said, please back-up your answers & be paitient with me. I will be a college student this upcoming fall, and have decided to go with the Macbook Pro 13".

I will definitely be getting a[n Incase] sleeve. What I'm struggling with is if I need an additional case. Speck seethru case, Incase Hardshell... Or maybe the Wrapsol. [no ZAGG.... I have a ZAGG cover for my iPhone & am throughly dissapointed. Every corner has peeled off].

The thing I am terrified about with the hardshell cases is that they might scratch my MBP? This thing is going to be my BABY, & I will not stand for anything scratching it!! But dust & tiny particles are bound to get in between the case & MBP.... and I've heard many bad reviews about that.

I've also been looking into the Moshi screen/ keyboard skins. They seem great... but this is all getting to be pretty expensive, & how much of it do I really NEED anyways? Is the MBP really prone to scratches, say, if it's just sitting on my desk? [if it's anything like the back of the iPhone, then it is.]I also think the MBP in itself looks gorgeous, and I'm not too interested in the idea of covering it with a piece of plastic.

PowerPC :: Attaching New Hinge To Case Without Damaging Anything?

Jan 1, 2009

Hi, I just acquired a PowerMac G4 500mhz that works great. However, the hinge is broken. It is on the right side (if you are sitting at the laptop). The screen casing is broken where the hinge is. There is nothing wrong with the screen, just the aluminum cases that covers it on the edges. I was able to remove the broken hinge from the computer. My problem is attaching a new hinge to the case without damaging anything.

Hardware :: Macbook Unibody Display Or Hinge Disassemble?

Dec 22, 2008

I am trying to anodize my alluminum Macbook unibody that I just got and I have begun disassembling it. In order to anodize or electroplate the aluminum, it must be stripped down to pure metal. No cable, wires, boards, nothing. THe bottom half of the computer with the motherboard and keyboard I have succesfully gutted. The top half, however, I am having no such luck with. I need to remove the hinge/lcd/display assembly from the aluminum back cover. I have searched everywhere online and can find nothing. Ifixit does not go that far. The youtube video by this other company shows the Macbook Pro display and hinge magically come off, but they do not share how [URL].

MacBook :: Hinge Making Cracking Noise / Lubricating The Hinge?

Sep 8, 2006

I got my Unibody MacBook the first day they were available, and since late December, the hinge has gotten stiffer and stiffer, making a cracking noise when I move it after it stays in one position for a few seconds.

I took it to the Genius Bar (covered under AppleCare) but the people there wouldn't do anything about it, saying it's within normal spec and classifying it as a "user perception issue." (The slightly condescending sound of that phrase is for another post.)

Has anyone attempted to lubricate the hinge in their laptop themselves? I removed all of the bottom paneling and looked at the hinge, but didn't see how to separate it from the case easily. Would it be a bad idea to try to squirt a little silicone lubricant into the hinge to see if that helps the issue? Is there another trick I could try.My mom has a Unibody Pro with a hinge that glides nice and smoothly and it's annoying mine is no longer working properly like this.

Mac :: Macbook Pro Screen Hinge Options - Solid State Hard Drive And 4GB Of Ram

Mar 20, 2010

Iv had my macbook pro for probably a little bit under two years, I bought it when i started college and I am currently finishing my second year. I cannot complain about the performance at all as I have it upgraded to a solid state hard drive and 4GB of ram and the machine is a beast but some physical aspects of it do bother me a little bit. When living in the dorms last year it was hard to keep the machine in top shape especially when I had no idea where my desk was under the pile of GROSS in the room :P, thankfully I live in an apartment now.Anyways the problem that bothers me the most is the monitor hinge. I have seen this on a few laptops after a few years but basically when the LCD is open i can tap it lightly from behind and it will shake in a way it did not when it was first bought. It seems like it is a bit lose either right around the LCD or in the hinge area. I do not mind spending a few bucks and I am very good with my hands and computers in general, currently studying engineering, so I do not mind opening it up and doing some tweaks. Is there anything i can buy to improve this with or tutorial I can read on improving it? I would imagine this is a problem that would affect alot of people with this model of macbooks and as I never really did anything to cause this.

OS X :: Replacing Hard Drive In UMBP 13 - Torx 6 Not Fit?

I then ordered both a Torx 4 and Torx 5 from eBay. They are both too small... So what is wrong here? anyone had the same problem? Or any alternative solutions w/o using a Torx driver?

OS X :: Which Replacement Internal New Hard Drive For New UMBP

Jul 18, 2010

I have just got a new 17" i7 2.66 UMBP. It comes with a 500GB Hard Drive but I would like to upgrade it to one of the newer 1TB ones.

My reasoning is to have not only more space but create a partition so I can run both OSX & Windows.

I am not sure which brands are more reliable than others & who offers the best warranty or back up service. I would want the fastest & quietest one available as long as it will definitely fit inside the notebook. Reliability & good customer service from the brand is also important as I gather my Applecare will only cover factory installed parts?

Which brand & models should I be looking at and which do you all recommend? I am not sure but I think I need to ensure that any replacement drive does not conflict with the notebooks built in sudden motion sensor?

Intel Mac :: Get Rid Of A "speck" On The InsideĀ of Display?

Jun 20, 2012

I have a Mid 2011 21.5 baseline iMac which I bought in March 2012. I noticed it just a couple of days ago, there's a tiny grey "speck" in the middle of my screen. I initially thought it was a speck of dust, which I tried to clean off with a microfiber cloth. Well, it didn't come off. I realized that it was on the inside portion of the glass cover. It's is neglegible when the the screen has a dark image but becomes visible when I use a white background like when I use Pages. There are also severaly tiny grey bubles at the bottom black portion of the glass cover. Ther's also a tiny "crack" like something on the top right area (or maybe just a speck of dust, I'm getting a bit paranoid).
