Hi guys, I recently picked up a 20" Dell S2009W for $99 and it's pretty damn amazing, definitely replacing my old 19" Westinghouse monitor.
I'd like some tips on calibrating the color profile of the display (as well as my uMBP's display).
The model number for my uMBP is 9C84, if it helps at all
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!
I did this for the Macbook Pro's a while back, but I'm a Macbook guy now. There are a few other threads with profiles but it's no good if you use a profile made from a different panel than what you have. I'm just trying to consolidate things here.
I will try to keep this post current; please only submit profiles created from hardware, not those done by human eye (meatware?) And be sure to say which panel the profile is for. Thanks to everyone for contributing and improving the Macbook experience!

Just curious if someone could post their display settings (or icc file) for the dell 3008wfp. I'm having a hard time calibrating the monitor without a dedicated calibration device like spyder.
I realize there can be monitor to monitor variations but for my non-professional purposes I'd like to just get it close.
My two concerns:
1) Brightness is blinding
2) Colors look washed out (with my current pathetic attempt to calibrate).
Long story short, I now have a late 2008 15" MBP with a broken display housing, LCD housing, and glass bezel. The LCD itself, along with the iSight etc., is functional. I have the opportunity to buy a display assembly for the mid 2009 MBP, including a new screen, for a good price.
Would replacing the entire display assembly with the mid 2009 assembly work?
Or could I buy the new assembly and simply replace the screen with my current one?
Essentially, what is the compatibility of the two units. I'd prefer the mid 2009 screen for obvious reasons.I searched the forums here, as well as searching many other places, and I have not found the answer.
I have a Dell 2408WFP on the way, as well as a Mac Pro 2.8 with the HD 2600XT, at long last!
The 2408 was recommended by several users of this site, so I wanted to see if you would be willing to share your calibration settings for the monitor?
I've read here about the important task of recalibrating this monitor and soaked up as much knowledge as a I could (as he does get into his settings a little bit).
Since it seems some of you would have a very similar system to me , I was hoping you could help take a little of the pain out of calibrating it (without an external device) and share all relevant settings with me (monitor settings, color profile, graphics card settings, etc.)

View 5 Replies View RelatedI realize the L2 cache is half the size and the CPU is a bit slower, but if each machine had 4 gigs of ram, would they be more or less comparable in performance (aside from the GPU)?
Also, how does the Mini fare with Vista in BootCamp / Parallels?
I have a 2008 15" 2.4GHz unibody macbook pro with the Nvidia 9400 & 9600 GPU's. It works great, but i notice when playing 720p HD video in Quicktime X, the video is often kind of stuttery at first when i skip through the video, and sometimes beachballs. I am disappointed, because i often like to skip to certain parts in videos (especially TV Shows/Movies). It doesn't do this with smaller videos.
I only have 2GB of RAM. Do you think upgrading the RAM to atleast 4GB would help with this problem? I am on the 9600 with the "Higher Performance" option. Do you notice this at all?
I hooked up my macbook pro to a mini display port to a dvi -> hdmi to my tv no problem. However, when I hooked up the mini display -> dell monitor, I get nothing. The screen is black. The weird thing is that my macbook pro recognizes that a second monitor is plugged in... it just won't display anything

I had always read that the max. ram I could install on the Macbook 13inch late 2008 model, model 5,1, 2.4 Ghz, boot rom version MB51.007D.803, SMC Version 1.32f8, was 4GB of ram. I received an add from "Other World Computing" stating that I can install 8Gb to this model. I am running Lion and do a lot of photography so the idea of increasing ram is interesting. However, I don't want to waste my money.

I have a HP w2408 flatscreen monitor, and I want to use it for my Macbook Pro as an external display. For some reason, after doing all of the calibration steps and whatnot, the colors on the external display still look too saturated and the text looks too washed out. Does anyone have a solution that will make the HP display looks similar to my Mac's? I'm using the Mini-Display Port to VGA adapter. The Mac is the oldest unibody.

I noticed it all started happening after I installed ProTools LE.
I've already erased my internal hard drive and reinstalled snow leopard, then put my necessary files back.

I am about to upgrade my late 2008 aluminum MacBook 2.4 Ghz to 6GB of ram from owc but wanted to know if the will support 8GB, running at full stability. From what I can tell from other threads is that the owc 8GB kit doesn't work is this correct? If it can handle 8GB of ram I will do that instead of 6GB.

under Serial-ATA. So I'm not sure if that means the the port is a 3 Gigabit port but the HD is only 1.5. Does that mean the SATA cable is a 1.5 Gigabit speed, and I'd need a new cable, or what? Also if it is 3 Gigabit port that means it's SATA II, right?

Ok, so I just received my early Xmas present(s) from my work... (Got a whole bunch of Mac goodies).
On to my question, I have my 24" ACD sitting in my office, and my 2008 Macbook, I want to know if there is a way to connect the ACD to the Macbook. It's not the most important thing in the world, because I'm getting my 17" MBP in Oct., but until then, I would like to use the ACD with my Macbook if possible.
I am selling my Macbook Pro 15" from late 2008 (it has the dual nvidia cards 9600 and 9400) and going to a macbook 13". I know that the current macbook 13" model only has a 9400 but i need the reduced size. Is there any other benefits that changed in the past year?

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe cursor stops responding for up to minute (without changing to a "beach ball"), lots of "beach balls", delays in typing/deleting, even delays when using arrows. Restarting helped (though it didn't shut down properly), but the problem is back. I'm on 10.7.3, using Safari, but the problem is across apps. I have very little else open at the same time.

My gf's late 2008 MacBook ist annoyingly slow. I have 8 tabs open in Safari and when going back and forth between those tabs it gives me the spinning beachball for like 30 seconds. Sometimes it even reloads the whole tab which takes even more time. The whole time I hear the hdd working hard, it's clicking all the time though there are no unsual sounds that would indicate harddrive failure.
I checked disk utility it says S.M.A.R.T. is verified. I even used another program (don't remember the name right now) to get a more detailed description of the hdd status, progam says everything's fine. I checked the memory both with the tools provided by Apple and memtest, both say everything is great. So I asked some Apple Service person what the problem might be, he said if SMART's okay than it's probably the hdd-cable - repair would cost me (or my girlfriend in this case) 60 bucks. Before I shell out the cash I want to double check and see if I can repair the computer myself. My plan is to connect the hdd via usb to see if it's still that slow, but of course the speed of usb itself is limited, so I'm not sure if this is a good idea.

I bought a uMBP17 and the Speck hard shell for it. I was surprised at how much heavier the machine becomes with the armor on. So I've noticed that the hinge does seem to stress a bit with the extra weight of the shell.
Have you guys noticed that ? Is this something that I should be concerned about ?
I have recently got myself a lovely powerbook 15" display to use as my portable mac. It is the 1.33 Ghz model. I was wondering if someone could give me any tips on display calibration for this machine. Or if someone had a calibrated profile they were happy with that they could send me. My screen has a not-so-attractive yellow tinge to it. I have tried playing around with the built in calibration software but I don't know alot about it and it hasn't made much difference.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi am having a weird problem with my brand new imac.. I bought it custom made last friday with ATI Radeon HD 4850. Now here is my issue.. Every time i boot up it takes a while for the screen to turn on. I hear the start up sound and HDD working and all that but screen stays off for another 5+ sec. before finally going grey before apple logo comes up. Now I thought this isn't an issue since i did order it with ATI card instead of standard Nvidia. Figured different cards react differently. However, later on after playing a game for few hours and doing a restart it would do the same thing, but the screen would never turn on. Just stay black forever until i shut it down and wait a minute or two then power it back on. So to clear this up. What happens is, i push power button, start up sound happens, then black.... like it is off, not even the back light. This only happens every few days, not every restart.. I reset SMC, PRAM, ran hardware test, spoke with apple on phone, went to genius bar, and after all that and being passed around now the apple engineers are looking into my problem and i am expecting a call back from them. So i guess my question is, is there anyone else with this setup (ATI Radion) that has this issue?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI sent in my macbook pro 15" about 2 weeks ago to have its logic board replaced because of screen flickering. A couple days after I got it back, it started giving me 3 beeps on startup. I finally was able to get it started somehow and its been running fine untill today. It started giving me the 3 beeps again. I know this means there is something wrong with the ram. I opened it up and switch the RAM and it started. I went away for a couple minutes and when I came back there was a message saying that I had to shut it down holding the power button. When I tried booting it back up again, the beeps came back.
