MacBook :: Glass Removal / LCD Replacement
Jun 8, 2009So a few weeks ago I decided to do a little project since I came up on some money, and I wanted to share with you guys how to remove the lcd.. I bought a water damaged macbook unibody (originally purchased Jan. 29) from ebay for $550. After cleaning the logic board and the rest of the internal components, I reassembled it and put it back together and it booted up perfectly. But the only issue was that the backlight of the LCD did not light up, leading me to believe that it was a bad inverter board or the LEDs shorted out. Anyway, I tried one of my friends' top lids and it worked.
My next dilemma was how to replace the LCD inside... since a replacement top lid cost $600 from ifixit/techrestore/missionrepair... I decided to take the plunge and remove the glass myself(without breaking it). Here it is, also a link to the youtube vid I made:

May 12, 2010i got a screen scratch on my Computer about 4 months ago and it is now bothering me. I want to remove it because well... i have some OCD and i would love to see a clear screen. Its just a small 3mm hair line scratch but i would like it gone. Because on white it makes a Kind of Rainbow effect. Now i've seen 2 methods i think that could work. OS X :: Slow Start Up After Boot Camp Removal
Jul 28, 2009I installed Boot Camp on my machine and removed it thereafter. However it has slowed down my startup for mac now to almost 4 MINS!!! from 30seconds before. I have googled all the forums and tried the following without success :
- reinstalling the software
- deleting the PRAM
- selecting the Mac HDD as Startup disk but to no avail.
- scanned/fixed/verify all permissions
something must have corrupted the MAC OS...can anyone suggest a way out of this slow boot up? Its like having a ferrari but can only move after a rolling start.

I'm thinking about installing a distro of Linux on it and using it as a file server or media server and connecting it to an external display, but I would like to have the keyboard and mouse readily available and would not like to have issues with overheating because the lid is closed. May 8, 2012I have the following question: I have checked my mac on flashback with flashback removal tool from Kaspersky. It detected (nd removed then) flashback although I have OS X.7. But every time I start the computer, the virus is detected by the removal tool again...However, all other anti-virus programmes are detecting no threat. i have also installed the malware removal app from apple. So I definitely do not understand why the Kaspersky tool is still detecting the virus.

What happens is that the unit powers on, the LCD display slightly brightens (getting power) but stays dark, and that's it. No beeps, boops or other responses beyond that. If you remove the RAM chips, the LED power lights gets mad and blinks at you, but that's about it. On the board itself I get the two diagnostic LEDs lit. The third never even flickers.

May 21, 2009I really hope somebody can help me with this. I've had an iMac for several months now. Before that I had a PC. Very soon after I bought it I started to get pounding rock music in the background whenever I tried to listen to anything. It's loud enough to overwhelm whatever it is I'm trying to hear. It isn't going all the time, but something seems to start it, and then it goes for days. I must have downloaded it accidentally when I was blundering around in the first month or os. If it was a PC I'd be able to find it, but Mac is still a mystery to me. I seem to remember that I downloaded something to do with a waterfall, "Dakota Falls" perhaps. The video was a waterfall which sat on the desktop. It looked quite pretty, but when I got rid of it the music wouldn't go away. So right now i can't listen t anything on my new iMac, and obviously I can't watch movie's or anything. It's really frustrating. The OS is Leopard. Also can anyone suggest a decent book on Mac that isn't too superficial. I'm not totally certain of the connection between the waterfall video and the pounding music, but they seemed to occur.
