MacBook Pro :: Replacement Policy For Notebooks?

Jun 25, 2009

Does anyone know the replacement policy if you get your MBP replaced through Applecare, is it done by price or "performance"

I have a SR 2.4 MBP 15, does anyone know whether it would be replaced by the 2.53 or 2.66 MBPs, as I am worried that the 9400M will be worse for gaming.

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Know Replacement Policy?

Apr 10, 2010

I was just wondering if any of you have had experience with getting a replacement from Apple.

I have a few questions about it.

I'm pretty sure I'm eligible for a replacement, since my Unibody Macbook Pro has had multiple issues and has had the logic board replaced a couple of time.

All within the same year. I do have AppleCare on it, and I'm going to request a replacement from them since going back and fourth and having nothing get fixed is not productive.

So, my questions are.

1.) Is it better to talk to them over the phone? That way I would be able to get to a higher up directly, right? Opposed to the AppleStore.

2.) Since the update is coming shortly, apparently maybe. Would apple replace/upgrade my laptop to one of the newer ones? I assume that would depend on how long they've been out, if yes.

And if so, how long after release would I need to wait to receive one of those?

3.) When doing a replacement, do they replace only the laptop itself? Or would I give them everything of mine (old box, cords, etc.) and they just give me a brand new boxed one and that's it?

MacBook Pro :: Policy For Maximizing Overall Battery Life?

Nov 5, 2009

I just bought a 13" MBP which I know has some clever battery technology built in. I also know that the overall life of some rechargeable batteries is lengthened by ensuring they are regularly fully discharged and recharged instead of keeping them charged to a maximum at all times. Does anyone know whether the overall life of the MCP's innovative battery is maximized by adopting the same policy?

MacBook Pro :: Is There An Upgrade And Exchange Policy For New Models

Apr 11, 2012

I have the 13.3" Macbook Pro, which I just purchased in October. I want to upgrade to the 15 or 17 inch Macbook pros, so I was wondering if Apple has an exchange policy that can exchange my (Like-new condition, with original box) Macbook Pro and upgrade to a bigger one, of course paying some sort of fee and the difference between laptops.

Can I use the same hard drive to use Time Machine for the two notebooks, as well? What about storing other backups on that drive as well? I'm just trying to map the most logical approach to having safe backups. Let me know what you think.

Hardware :: Apple Acknowledges Graphics Glitch With Latest Notebooks

Apr 14, 2008

Apple is investigating problems with its new Penryn-based Intel notebooks that cause flickering and graphics corruption during media playback and web browsing.

The two issues have been widely reported by users of the company's latest 13-inch MacBooks and 15-inch MacBook Pros, both of which began shipping in February.

In particular, users on the Apple discussion forums say (1, 2, 3, 4) that QuickTime playback of video files is routinely marred by flickering or the appearance of "washed out" graphics on their new machines.

"When I am watching the Video Tutorials for any of Apple products my QT flickers dark and light, not to the point where I can't see the video, but to the point where it is annoying," one user wrote.

"Exact same problem here," replied several others.

Meanwhile, the same batch of users are also reporting instances of graphics corruption on their machines when scrolling through Safari webpages or Mail messages -- both of which rely on Apple's Webkit framework.

"My wife has got a current gen Macbook Pro that is exhibiting a very strange behavior," one user wrote in an AppleInsider forum thread on the subject. "When she's on battery power she gets graphical glitches/tearing when scrolling in a browser."

"I have a current generation [MacBook Pro] and I have the same problem," said another. "Also when loading web pages, often with pictures, the content in the active window flickers a lot."

Thus far, it appears the anomalies are the result of a software glitch rather than a flaw within hardware. Several users attempting to diagnose the problem on their own report that the issues became noticeable only after installing the Leopard Graphics update that was released alongside the recent Mac OS X 10.5.2 Update.

One user even went as far as to install a build of the still unreleased Mac OS X 10.5.3 Update -- which is said to include fixes for graphics corruption -- on his system to see if it remedied the issue. Although he claimed the upcoming update fixes the problem, another user performing the same kind of check reported that while 10.5.3 does indeed alleviate some symptoms, it "doesn't completely correct the issue."

Graphics corruption experienced on Apple's new notebook systems.

For its part, Apple over the weekend formally acknowledged the issues for the first time in an email response to one customer.

"Apple has received reports similar to the behavior you are describing and we are investigating those reports," the company said. "Further information will come in the form of a Knowledge Base article, Software Update, or Software Release."

OS X :: Using No P2P Policy- Unable To Use P2p

I am going to college in the fall and they have a strict no P2P policy. I was thinking I could get around this by installing LogMeIn on my Mac at school and download torrents from there. Then I would log into my computer at home, which is on Verizon FiOS and has no limitations/bans. Would this work and if not are there any other ideas? I have an iPhone 3G so I could tether if worst comes to worst.

Is this normal? I assume the write part must be to deactivate my internet if I am doing something illegal obviously but I must say I feel uncomfortable knowing that there is the "Unknown" user that can read and write my internet access levels.

OS X Server V10.6 Snow Leopard :: What Happens When A Global Password Policy Is Enabled

Jun 27, 2012

I have a OD domain that I've been adding systems too, and I've just about got it dialed in. Now I'd like to enable a global password policy, and I'm curious what actually happens when I flip the switch in Server Admin > Open Directory > Settings > Policies > Passwords? If I set a "reset every 90 days" option, is that from the time the policy is enabled, or from the time the user account was created? If I set a "must have one letter" or "numeric character", etc...and the user doesn't currently have a password that matches this criteria, will they be forced to set a new password immediately, or the next time one is initiated? Basically what I'm trying to figure out is how many support tickets I'm going to have, and (almost more importantly) when.

MacBook Pro :: How To Get A Replacement?

Dec 22, 2009

I have a Late 2008 15 MBP (Purchased March 2009). The display does not always remain closed. It occasionally pops up itself. I have sent it to Apple store twice.

The first time I brought it to the store, the genius bar observed the problem and said it's caused by weak magnets. So my laptop was sent to repair center.

Five days later, I picked up the laptop from the store and found they did not fix the problem and two screws at the bottom of the machine were missing.

The paperwork says they replaced display assembly due to "Sleep Function Not Working". WTF

I then sent the laptop to the same store for repair. This time the genius bar made a note on my laptop so that the staff at repair center could handle the issue carefully.

Yesterday, got my laptop back from FedEX. The problem was still there!! The paperwork says they replaced display assembly again. But this time the they found my problem.

I am 70 miles away from the store and it is irritated to drive back and forth.

I called Apple Care for a resolution. They apologized and said the only thing they could offer is to send me a prepaid shipping box and have the laptop repaired again.!!!

Guys, should I send my laptop in for the third time?? Or is apple supposed to offer a replacement? Please, don't say I am greedy... I spent all my college savings for this laptop and this makes me frustrated.

Thanks for all the commnets and suggestions. you guys rock!!

OK, after the second repair, i talked to their senior advisor. He said he is confident that the repair center will fix it this time. When we asked him for a replacement, he said "give us another try. If this repair does not solve the problem, we can discuss other options."

Today, I got my machine back from FedEX and they replaced the display assembly again... I already told their advisor my speculation which is magnets. It has nothing to do with display frame since they have replaced it three times and none of them solves the problem.

I already called the advisor and left a message for him... Hopefully he will call me back soon.

This is not a major issue. Why it is so difficult for Apple to fix it?
