Apr 18, 2012Just placed a new harddrive in my macbook pro and had the geeks at the Genius bar to install the OS system. Now I'm dealing with a clicking noise and a grey screen with a question mark on it. Tried to place the install dvd in and boot from the it won't. I did notice after going to the Disk utility that my hardrrive isn't recognized.

May 2, 2012My computer will start running really slowly and then the keyboard stops working, then after 30 seconds or so I lose the ability to click but the mouse still moves. Command-option-esc for force quit still works some of the time though but refreshing everything from there doesn't help. After I reboot everything goes back to normal. This has happened every other day or so for about a week.

OS X :: Connecting To Servers Stops Working Until I Reboot?
Mar 17, 2010I have two shares that are always connected on my mac (two folders via smb share). They are NAS devices. They are also connected on numerous other macs in the house. On my mac pro, once in a while, I will click in the share and nothing happens. I will disconnect the share and then try to reconnect, and I just get "Connecting to server" forever (until I cancel). A reboot does the trick, but a reboot is a pain because I have two VM sessions, numerous jobs in queue, etc.
Is there a way to restart that daemon that handles smb mac shares? I already tried to stop and start network services.

Nov 30, 2014grey screen no apple followed by blue screen with vertical lines. Graphics and logic board replaced <6 months ago. What to do? I held down shift, it gets HOT HOT and makes noises. (for safety mode) followed by a blank grey screen and blue screen. Then tried the other way (I think it's command alt delete? I don't remember) and it turned from grey (no apple symbol) to blue blank. Then third time, grey followed by blue with vertical lines, not blocky clear lines that you can see if you are close to it.Â

MacBook Pro :: Stuck On Blue Screen During Reboot
Apr 18, 2012I emptied my cache on Safari and my computer stayed frozen for a few minutes. I decided to re-boot, but every time I do so, it goes from the gray Apple screen to a blue screen and stops right there. I don't get the spinning wheel, but rather the black arrow that I can move about the blue screen, but nothing else.
Here's what I've tried with no success.
1. Re-booting via Safe Mode (Command-Shift). Instead of freezing on the blue screen, it asks for my password and after a few seconds it stops on the Snow Leopard Pink/Black Stars background. Same result, only the background is different
2. Resetting PRAM - No luck
3. Re-booting with the Snow Leopard DVD and using Disk Utility. I follow the necessary steps online. No luck

Jun 17, 2014I bought a used MBP (early 2011) with OS X 10.6.8. It's been running just fine, but last night moving files the screen suddenly went black. I rebooted and it will come up to a gray screen and then sit there. The fans start revving up and it gets really really hot. Of course I haven't done a backup recently, so I need the information on the computer.

Feb 12, 2008Well I finally got the drivers off of the MBA install DVD (URL). Just dumped them on to a USB stick. I installed XP Pro again using bootcamp assistant without a hitch. Rebooted into XP, put the USB stick in and ran the setup.exe off of it. XP blue screened when installing Broadcam drivers it appears.

I've tried a number of troubleshooting things...starting while holding "c" to boot with install disk...starting holding "shift" for safe boot. I did the PRM (?) reset thing holding Apple-option-p-r keys while starting and that did add the start up chime...before it would just go to the grey screen, no chime no spinning wheel...but still no boot.The computer is still under warranty but soonest appointment at Apple Store is 3 days from now!!!

Aug 13, 2010I have a weird problem going on currently. My 13 inch macbook pro (2009) works PERFECT but I've tried 3 times to update to the OSX to 10.6.3 or 10.6.4 and everytime the update works but after it reboots I get the grey screen of death.
When I have a time capable backup which I restore from when this happens so its not a big deal however whenever I restore I no longer have access to the old history. It's like the drive cannot go back in time. Is this normal?

Apr 20, 2012I tried to install 10.6 on my 10.5.8 Macbook Pro. It installed just fine, I restarted, it goes through the apple logo and asks me to pick a language. I pick english, it goes to the grey screen and stops there forever. I'd be happy just to go back to 10.5.8, I just don't want to lose all my stuff.Also, all the function buttons work (volume, adjust screen brightness, etc). Just nothing else will.

They got it from a pawn shop so I don't have the disk that we got the OS from but it hasn't had any issues UNTIL NOW. I need to use my laptop for a homework assignment. Everytime I turn it on it'll just stay on the loading screen, I left it for 4 hours yesterday and it still wouldn't work. I reset the (insert acronym here) thing already, the thing where you press control, option, P, R keys at start up. because my assignment is on the laptop and it's due tomorrow.

May 25, 2012My Macbook Pro (2008) was upgraded to Lion 10.7.2 before I bought it used. It's always been slow and after a little while it won't boot up properly, it only gets as far as the apple logo with the spinning wheel underneath.
I've have used Recovery HD and Disk Utility to repair/verify the hard drive and after the repair it still won't boot up past the apple logo. I downloaded OSX Lion 10.7.4 (client combo) update onto an external drive but I can't install the update when using Recovery HD. I've tried mounting the existing hard drive onto an external drive, but I get an error mesage immediately.
There are only a few folders I need to take from the existing hard drive in the Macbook Pro. What can I do to either access my hard drive or get it to boot up properly? I have a retail copy of a Snow Leopard DVD that I can use. I believe I might have saved Lion onto a DVD a while ago, but Apple seems to insist we intall by downloading the latest Lion? Basically I need to access the hard drive without erasing the data.

Dec 4, 2014i Was surfing the Internet and all of the sudden my computer turned blue. I closed the screen to 'refresh' it and when I opened it back up some of the pixels seemed to be missing and then it started beeping at me in increments of 3. I **** it down and tried to restart it. when the screen booted up it still seemed to me that the pixels were screwed up. I've managed to get past the blinking image of the earth, however after that disappears a grey screen comes up for about a minute or two and then the entire computer shuts down. This is in the middle of my finals and I cannot lose any of my work!
